Her Heart is A Rodeo
Rodeo time
-Savannah-
It's been 6 months since I bought that gorgeous horse. I decided to name him Apollo since his coat glowed like the sun. He has made tremendous progress and has turned out to be quite the barrel horse. We have won a couple of local rodeos and shows, but today we are headed to our biggest rodeo yet!
I had the trailer all loaded and ready to go Apollo freshly washed and cleaned and in the trailer as we sat and waited for Tucker to arrive so we could leave.
Tucker Thompson and I have been best friends since we were kids, actually he is my only friend. Being Home schooled and living in this small town, you don't make many friends. Tucker lives on a ranch about 20 min away from ours. Our dads were Team Roping partners and won the NFR (National Finals Rodeo) together multiple times. Tucker is now a big Team Roper and ranked #2 in the world!
Fianlly after about 15 min Tucker rolls up.
"About time you got here!"
"Sorry Savannah I was running late and Trooper didn't wanna go today apparently and wouldn't get in the trailer!"
"Oh its alright I forgive you."
As soon as we had everything loaded in my trailer we jumped in the truck and took off. We were headed for Dallas, TX for a PRCA rodeo. This was going to be Apollo's first big rodeo in front of thousands of people. I was so nervous and excited all at the same time!
We arrived 2 and a half hours later we had about an hr until the rodeo started so I decided to get Apollo out and go for a nice ride around the grounds to calm my nerves.
As the rodeo began they started to run through the events Barrel Racing was towards the end of the rodeo so I decided to go and watch Tucker. He cam out roped his steer in 4.7 seconds putting him 3rd in the rodeo! he came out smiling at me so I gave him a hug and we headed for the trailer to get ready for my event.
I was so nervous! I walked Apollo to the arena, 3 more girls ahead of me.
"Hey take a deep breath its just like any other run ok." Tucker said squeezing my leg lightly to show his support. I gave him a reassuring grin and focused on the task ahead.
"Next up we have Savannah Coleman from Lane, OK!"
The crowd began to cheer as the announcer said my name. This is it.
I ran through the gate full speed at my first barrel as Apollo set himself up and turned on a dime! Yes! we take off for the second barrel and turn just like the first! Ok one more left! I push him on to the third set him up and Bam! turns his third perfectly! I push him home kicking until we stop the timers!
"Ladies and Gentleman that is your new time to beat! 14.367"
Holy crap! Not only had we ran a fantastic run but we were in the lead! The second I saw Tucker I hoped off Apollo and ran straight into his arms for a hug. When I looked up into his eyes he did something I never expected. He stared at me for a second and then leaned in and kissed me. Nothing rough or intense just a light brush of our lips together. He pulled himself back and smiled that smile at me I began to blush I could feel my cheeks redden.
"Come on let's get Apollo unsaddled and taken care of champ." he said with a wink and grabbed my horse. As I walked along side him he grabbed my hand this felt nice I have never had someone that I felt this way for it was like butterflies fluttering in my stomach.
We got into the truck him with a third place check and me with my winning check and headed home hand in hand two champions.
