The Runaways

Are You Ready For This?

Carters POV:

"Well we obviously didn't see that one coming did we?" Louis sounded above me. Currently, we both are cleaning the bathroom, one of the many targets of Addy and Niall's epic prank. Right now, I'm picking up feathers and honey off of the tiled floor while Louis is standing directly above me, putting all of the cosmetics that were thrown as defense mechanisms back onto the sink where they belong. The rest of One Direction plus Addison and Josh are down the hall, cleaning up the rest of the monstrosity that is an Addison Prank.

I chuckled, "I should have known. Addy is the mischievous one. The minute I knew that she was gone for too long, I should have told you guys and backfire it. Instead of course, we're stuck with this.." I put down the cloth in my hand and rested against the cabinets, sighing. Louis finished putting up the last hair gel bottle before following my suit and sitting right beside me.

He looked at me. "Carter, don't you dare apologize for a stupid little prank. I honestly haven't had that much fun in a while and that's saying something when my entire career is just that. Don't even pretend like you didn't have fun either. I saw you and if prank wars is what it takes to see your smile, a REAL smile, I'd start one every day." I smiled. "I can tell you're hiding something. I didn't know if it was just me, but when you broke down a few hours ago over Addison, I knew something was up. You hide behind this wall...a wall that tries to fool other people into thinking you're okay, but I can see through it." I looked down. "You don't have to tell me now, but i'm determined to find out what it is. It's just strange that a girl like yourself that shouldn't have a care in the world, isn't happy. You and your sister." He rested his hand on my knee. "I may not have known you for more than a day, but I just want to make sure you'll be okay. You've treated me with such respect and honesty, that I'm doing the same. I meant it when I said that you're my new best friend." He smiled. I laughed and nudged him.

"Louis Tomlinson is now my best friend? I can deal with that." I winked. He rolled his eyes and stood up, sticking his hand out for me to grab. "And she’s back…come on babe, let’s go see if the others are finished."

This boy....

Addy's POV

I flounced onto the bed. "Ugh...That went way farther than I expected it to, but that was so freaking awesome! That was epic guys!" I exclaimed, high fiving Josh and Niall. We continued reliving the prank until we saw Liam, Harry, and Zayn walk into the room. Their hair was pushed out of their face from all of the sweat and I swear I could see a huge glob of honey stuck in Harry's hair, but I'll let him figure that one out on his own. The three followed suit and flounced onto the bed as well, creating a pile of wiped out, dirty kids. "That was brutal to clean up, but I have to give you three props for this. You got us good." Zayn spoke. I smiled widely and somehow made it even bigger with the help of Niall’s hand finding mine and giving it a triumphant squeeze before letting go.
“Hey, were you cleaning up with Carter and Louis?” I asked. I didn’t see them come out…
“Nope, they took the bathroom while we worked on the living room. Why?” Harry answered.
“Nothing, they’ve just been spending all of their time together and I feel like I haven’t seen her in God knows how long.” I said, sitting up and walking over to the chair on the opposite side of the room. The boys looked at me.
“Now that I think about it, they have been attached to the hip lately. I wonder what’s going on,” Zayn spoke first.
I looked down at my feet. I hope she didn’t tell him anything. Carter hasn’t been the same for a long time now. I know I’m older and I have to take the responsibility for what we’ve been through, but she doesn’t talk as much anymore, smile…the only time I saw her laugh in years was with these boys an hour ago and that fact alone scares me to death. My sister was the kind of person who trusted others so easily. She used to believe that nobody was cruel and uncapable of love until it actually happened to her. I know she tries to act like she’s okay, but I’ve known her all my life and I can tell when she isn’t herself. It’s been this way for so long, I’m starting to lose the memories of her REAL self. She does have her moments where she seems back to normal, but those times are rare. These boys have changed her. They seemed to have brought out her confident, spontaneous side that has been buried underneath hurt, despair and who knows what else, for years. It’s been so heartwarming to see her like this that I don’t want us to step away from these boys for even a moment. I’m afraid that if we do, she’ll lose her way again and I will not do that to her. She’s been strong for too long. We have to go though, staying isn’t an option for us anymore.
I shook my head of the many thoughts roaming around in my brain. “Maybe the bathroom was just a bigger mess than the others. I’m sure they’ll be out.”
“Or maybe they’re-“ Harry started, before I cut him off.
“Stop it right there Harry. I can tell where you’re going with this and as much as I would love to see her with someone, perving it up doesn’t help hon.” I stated, prompting him to close his mouth and look down, red faced. The others were obviously trying to hold in a laugh, for Harry’s sake.
A few minutes later, the objects of conversation themselves appeared. “Hey! What were you guys doing? You took forever in there.” I said, walking up to my sister while Louis detoured towards the boys.
“Oh…I don’t know…maybe cleaning up the mess you oh-so generously created!” she retorted, slapping me in the stomach playfully. I laughed and returned the favor except for the fact that she decided to use our self-defense skills to block my punch. She grabbed onto my hand and used her free one to kick my shin this time.
Oh…It’s on.
While she was soaking up her glory in blocking my attempts, I took my chance to grab the pressure point in her neck and instantly turned her on her knees. I bent down in a split second and spun her around, twisting her body so that her chest rested against the carpeted floor. I straddled her waist and pinned her flailing arms above her head, taking her down for good.
And she thought she could beat me…
After a few seconds of silence, Carter and I both busted out laughing. I let go of her hands and helped put her back on her feet.
She smiled and put her arm around me. “I guess you haven’t forgotten your skills?”
“Why would I? I’m the one who taught you everything you needed to know!” I joked, winking at her.
She rolled her eyes and turned front. I mirrored her movements and came face to face with five VERY shocked boys. I know it may seem cliché to say they’re jaws hit the floor, but it’s actually pretty accurate.
I guess the boys didn’t know that boxing skills were our way of play fighting…
After a few minutes of awkward silence, I heard, “That. Was. AMAZING!”
Zayn.
Carter and I shared an amused look.
“I seriously thought you were fighting! I was going to break it up, but I was honestly to0 scared to get in the middle of it…” Louis stated next, looking a little sheepish.
“You have to tell us how you learned all that!” Harry exclaimed, obviously a VERY excited boy…
Then Carter said something that really made me question where her newfound confidence came from…
“Why tell, when we can show?” she said with a wink.
The boy’s faces lit up instantly.
Carter and I smirked.

Oh boys…Are you ready for this?
