The Girl with the Purpled Streaked Hair
Chapter Fourteen
“Is that everything?” Lori asked as she walked back into Christine's now empty, pink room.
“Yup. Remember all the stuff we did in here?”
Lori snickered. “Definitely. Most of that stuff were your ideas.”
“Hey, when we're done moving everything, want to go to a party with me? Some guy I met at the orientation invited me and said I could bring a friend. It'll be good for you since Harry is gone”
“Um, sure I guess.”
“How long has he been gone, anyway?” Christine asked as her and Lori walked out of the room.
“A little less than a week. He said he'll probably end up just staying a week since his time off is kind of short.”
“So, how are the two of you?” Christine asked mischievously.
Lori laughed. “Um, good I guess. We haven't seen each other much and it's not like we're exclusive or anything, we've only been on one date.
“But he did visit you at work, he's been to your house, and you've fallen asleep in the same bed as him. Damn Lori, now that I think about it, this is guy has gotten farther with you than any of your other boyfriends.”
“He's not my boyfriend!”
“Jesus girl, calm yourself. I was just screwing with you, but you can't pretend that you wouldn't want him to be.”
“Can't we talk about anything, but Harry?”
“Fine, I'll stop,” Christine said as she turned on her car. “Come on, let's go check out my new place.”
They drove out of her parking lot followed by a moving truck driven by Christine's cousin. Lady Gaga was blasting in Christine's car and both of the girls were laughing as the wind messed up their hair. Finally the girls arrived at the apartment complex. Christine jumped out of her car and ran into the building. Lori ran after her and soon found her standing in front of a closed door.
“Ready?” Lori asked.
Christine opened the door to reveal the empty apartment building. It was average and a little boring compared to Christine, but Lori knew if she gave Christine a month she could make the place look like it was made for her. Throughout the late morning and the afternoon, Lori, Christine and a few other friends helped Christine unpack the majority of her boxes. A few hours later they were pretty finished with the basic furniture like Christine's bed and couch and what not. Everyone, but Lori left.
“So I'm guessing we can get ready for the party at your house?” Christine suggested.
They left the particially finished apartment and drove to Lori's house. Her parents were gone as usual so Christine turned up the music extremely loud as they began getting ready. Actually, it was more Christine getting Lori ready, Lori wasn't very good with the whole makeup and hair thing. Christine fixed up Lori's hair, making it shiney and straight. She did Lori's make up, nothing too drastic due to Lori's orders. When that was done Christine went into Lori's closet and took out a small, flowy black and turquoise dress that Christine had bought her for her birthday last year.
“Do I have to wear a dress?” Lori whined.
“Yes!” Christine said as she gave Lori the dress. Lori stripped down and put on the dress, but she kept her converse on despite Christine's pleading. She twirled for Christine who gave her approval. While Lori was closing the doors to her closet Christine stole her phone and took a picture of her without Lori realizing it. She sent it to Harry with the caption Doesn't she look lovely? Christine.
“Aren't you going to get ready?” Lori asked.
“Yeah, right now,” Christine said as she set the phone down.
A bing from his phone tore Harry's attention away from the conversation at the dinner table. He was in his mom's house, sitting on the couch, waiting for their dinner to be done cooking, and as he looked at his phone his sister, Gemma, sat down next to him. The smile on his face told his sister he was talking to someone special.
“Who's that?” Gemma asked curiously as she leaned next to him to see his phone. He showed her the picture of Lori and both of them smiled at the exquisite girl on his screen. “She's very pretty,” Gemma confirmed, “What's her name?”
“Lori,” Harry said as he responded to the text and then looked back up at his sister.
“Is this Lori someone special?”
“I suppose you could say that,” Harry said with a grin.
“Harry, you're blushing,” Gemma said excitedly.
“No, I'm not!” Harry said.
“How long have you known this girl?”
“Just about a month.”
“Well go on and tell me about her or I'll announce to the whole family you're in love. You know how much, Mum, would love to hear about that.”
“Her name is Lori, she turned eighteen about a month ago, she has nice, brown eyes, and dark brown hair with purple streaks in them. We met at Hershey park. Remember when I told you about being stuck in the shop? She was in there too. We've hung out a lot, she's funny, beautiful, very sweet, is a good person. I dunno, I can't really describe her accurately because she's just so-I dunno, I can't seem to find the right words. She's just amazing, Gemma; you'd really like her.”
“I bet I would. She must be really something if you can't even describe her to your own sister without blushing like mad. Have the two of you gone out on a date yet?”
“Yeah, like one official one, but other than that we've pretty much just been hanging out and texting a lot.”
“Is there a future with this girl, Harry?” Gemma asked seriously.
Harry just smiled and shrugged, but Gemma could tell from the happiness on his face that he wanted there to be a future with this girl. Gemma smiled at how smitten her little brother was.
“Yup. Remember all the stuff we did in here?”
Lori snickered. “Definitely. Most of that stuff were your ideas.”
