The Girl with the Purpled Streaked Hair
Chapter One
One Direction loved Hersey Park. There was chocolate, roller coasters, the weather was perfect, and girls were everywhere. What more could they ask for? The boys had gotten early access to the park because at one o’clock they would have to go to the stadium to begin rehearsals, sound checks and everything else for the concert. Zayn didn’t go on a lot of rides, but the rest of the boys went on as many as they could before they had to go rehearse. They didn't get many chances to act normal so they weren't going to let this opprotunity go by. Around noon crowds of people came in, including a bunch of One Direction fans who had assumed the boys would be in the park. It started out as only a few fans who wanted pictures and autographs, but when one girl left satisfied three came to replace her. Soon enough there were too many fans and the boys were overwhelmed. Girls screamed their name and chased them throughout the park into a chocolate shop near the entrance gates. Besides the boys, a girl behind the cash register who looked bored out of her mind, was the only person in the store. When all five boys ran in Liam, Zayn, and Harry quickly blocked the door and Louis and Niall blocked the back door. Fans screamed and pounded on the windows, hoping to get their attention.
“What the hell is going on?!” the girl behind the counter yelled.
“Get the keys and lock the doors!” Liam yelled back.
“Please hurry. The fans are getting stronger.” Niall added.
She did as they said and quickly locked both doors. Luckily she had put the keys in her pocket instead of on the hook in the back of the store where she was supposed to keep them. When they all knew they were safe the boys hugged the girl very tightly to thank her for securing them from their wonderful, but crazy fans. Once they all let go Harry finally got a chance to look at his heroine and suddenly his breath disappeared. His heart started to beat extremely fast and he couldn't stop staring into her comforting brown eyes. Something in his stomach started to slowly come alive and he didn't understand what he was feeling; all he knew was this girl was the cause of it and he didn't want it to go away. Hearing her laugh suddenly brought back his hearing which he didn't notice was missing in the first place. Her laugh was sweet and cute and Harry immediately loved it. He noticed she covered her mouth with her hands when she laughed.
“Well if we’re stuck here for awhile we won’t run out of food. I mean, unless Niall gets hungry,” Harry said.
Everyone laughed, including the girl which brought Harry a small ounce of pride.
“So what’s your name, Love?” Liam asked.
“Lori and from the screaming teenage fans banging on the windows, the British accents, the awesome hair, and the ability to make me laugh I’m guessing you guys are One Direction.”
The boys smiled and bowed to confirm her guess.
“I'm Harry, and that blond one is Zayn-,” Louis began
“ Nice try, but I know a thing or two about you guys. You’re Louis, and the blond one is Niall, over there is Zayn, and that's Liam, and Harry is right over there. Man, you have no idea how loud my co-workers screamed when they found out the five of you were playing at Hersey Stadium.”
“Did you scream?” Niall asked.
“Yeah, are you a fan?” Zayn added.
“I suppose you can call me that. You guys are one of the few pop artists that I listen to, but I really do like your music. Anyways, you guys are welcome to look around the store and if we need to we can eat the candy if we are stuck here for a long time.”
They scattered to go explore the sugary contents of the store. Niall checked out the Kit Kat section with his watering mouth, Liam was showing Zayn a cook book all about chocolate recipes and Harry was looking at the different flavors of Hershey Kisses. Louis quietly snuck up behind Harry and handed him a Reese’s plush pillow. Together they ambushed the three others, whacking them in the heads with the soft sweets. Fans watching from the outside were laughing hysterically, but in the middle of the pillow fight Lori screamed “stop” to get their attention.
“Whoa whoa guys!” she exclaimed in a harsh tone. All the guys paused and started to feel a little guitly. She gave them a stern look and then tossed Liam, Niall, and Zayn Kit Kat plush pillows. “Attack!” she shouted and they continued hitting each other with the plush candies. The fight only lasted about ten minutes before the guys started getting bored.
“Do you think we can pay for this later?” Niall asked Lori as he picked up a chocolate bar.
“Considering your concerts got us like a million bucks go ahead.”
All the boys took one sweet and just started talking about their performance that night. Harry was talking with Louis when he noticed Lori had been missing for a long time. While the boys started waving to the fans and making funny faces through the windows he went to look throughout the store for her. She wasn’t anywhere in the front so he decided to go behind the counter. The back room was dim and filled with carboard boxes that contained delicious sweets. Shelves were scattered around the wall all having something on them.
“Lori?” Harry called.
He heard a noise and found her behind a huge delivery of Jolly Ranchers. She was sitting against the boxes with her head resting on her arms which were on her knees. Her breathing was a little shaky causing Harry to feel concerned. When she saw him she instantly got up and wiped away the tears threatening to roll down her cheeks, hoping he hadn't seen anything.
“Sorry, uh, did you need something?”
“Are you alright? You seem...bothered.”
“Yeah, I’m okay. It’s just all the people. I uh, - it’s hard to um-. There’s a lots of people.” she finally got out. “And it just sort of freaks me out. I feel, kind of trapped so I guess I’m a little claustrophobic, but don’t worry; I’ll be fine.”
“You sure?”
She got back down to her spot and rested her head on her knees that were pulled up to her chest. “I just don’t think I can go back out there,” she said quietly.
“Want me to stay here with you?”
“No!" Lori said almost immediately causing a hurt expression to appear on Harry's face. She cringed at the idea she had offended him and started to regret it right away. "I mean, you don’t have to. Your fans want to see that beautiful face of yours, you don’t want to disappoint them.” She shook her head and took a deep breath.
“They all probably have a bunch of posters of my face in their rooms anyway. It’s okay.” Harry sat down next to Lori and nudged her with his shoulder. She gave him a thankful grin.
“Thanks.”
“Well, it’s kind of me and the boys’ fault that you’re trapped here and you’re keeping us safe so I guess we’re even.”
“I just hope they didn’t get you before you got a chance to ride the coasters. They’re really fun and I bet it would save your hairdresser like an hour because you’ll already have that wind-blown hair.”
“Oh no, this is all natural unlike those purple streaks in your hair.”
It was true; Lori had put dark purple streaks in her shoulder length, straight, brown hair. The color did compliment her beautiful brown eyes though and her semi-round face which held a few stray freckles.
“Well what color do you think I should put in my hair?”
“You should just stay with purple. It looks good on you.”
“Thanks. Do you know how many girls would kill for that comment?”
“All the girls with purple streaks in their hair?”
“Good point.”
“So what did you mean before when you said we were the only pop group you like?”
“Oh don’t worry, it’s a good thing. You guys aren’t completely pop, you’re a little edgier so I like that. It’s just the music I like is more rock alternative, Indie style. Basically, you guys and Ed Sheeran and Pink and Avril Lavigne are the only people I like who do pop type of music, but my range of music taste is so wide it surprises me sometimes. What I'm trying to say is I like music.”
“Well what kind of bands do you like?”
“Uh, The Airborne Toxic Event, Imagine Dragons, Fallout Boy, The Strokes, stuff like that, but like I said I like a lot of stuff. Lately I've been trying to get into older stuff like Elton John and Queen though because, to unfortunate events I was never really introduced to such amazing music. You ask a lot of questions. It feels like you’re the fan and I’m the famous person. What music do you listen to?”
“Well I like The Fray, Queen, and John Mayer-”
“That’s what every magazine says.”
“Ah, so you’ve done your research.”
“Yes because this was my plan to trap you in the candy shop,” Lori said with obvious sarcasm.
“I knew it! I’ve got to go warn the others,” Harry added playing along.
“No, my plan!”
As Harry pretended to get up Lori held him down. They wrestled while laughing loudly and rolled around on the floor. Every now and then Lori would say crazy things obsessed fans would say like “you and I are meant to be,” and they both laughed harder and harder after each comment. Lori was really glad the janitor had moped the floor the night before otherwise they would probably be covered in dust. She felt extremely at ease with Harry. A wall stopped them from rolling any further and suddenly it started raining chocolate kisses! Both of them screamed and Harry covered Lori with his body, holding her close to him. When the candy storm was over they slowly untangled from each other.
“Oh crap,” Lori said while laughing hysterically.
“I’m sorry, I’ll help you clean it up,” Harry said with a huge grin on his face.
They got on their hands and knees and started picking up all the little candies. Harry took the box where the kisses use to be held off the shelf and started throwing them in as if they were basketballs and the box was a hoop. Lori joined in and they began a little competition.
“I think I can beat you,” Lori said confidently as she continued throwing the chocolates into the box.
“Well you thought wrong then because no one ever beats me. You can’t win.”
“Want to make this interesting?”
“How do we do that?” Harry asked, still focused on the box.
“We aim at each other’s mouth. Better accuracy that way. You up for it pop star?”
“I never back away from a challenge.”
They faced each other and started throwing candies into each other’s mouth. The scene itself was quite hilarious, two people with their mouths wide open diving to get little bits of chocolate into their mouths. To Lori's disappointment Harry was beating her by a few points, but she liked seeing his triumphant smile whenever he'd catch a chocolate.
“Won’t we get in trouble with your boss if all these candies go missing?” Harry asked as he tossed a kiss into her open mouth. She shook her head and swallowed.
“It’s okay. They were actually extras he was going to give to me for my graduation present. He’s ,um, an old friend of the family.”
“Oh so you’ve graduated from high school then?”
“Actually college.”
“What? How old are you?”
“Just eighteen. During the summers I took a lot of college courses and my teachers gave me college credits if I did certain assignments and projects so technically I completed all the requirements. I’m all done.”
“Wow. Congratulations on the graduation, but sadly you’ve lost this game. You have thirteen points and I have seventeen. Told you I would win.”
Lori stuck out her tongue and threw a kiss at him. In return Harry threw it back and this went on for a little bit, but soon they were throwing hand-fulls of kisses at each other. Harry grabbed all the chocolate and kept chucking it at Lori.
“Okay I surrender,” Lori said as she put her arms up.
“Say I’m better at throwing than Michael Jordan.”
“You’re better at throwing than Michael Jordan.”
Harry unwrapped one of the kisses and told Lori to open her mouth. He got close to Lori, gently placed the chocolate between her lips. By accident Harry's fingers grazed Lori's soft lips, but she didn't mind. She closed her mouth which soon turned into a grin.
“That’s a peace offering.”
“Well it’s accepted and to show that I accept it.”
She opened up a candy and put it into Harry’s mouth. They both smiled at each other and enjoyed the delicious gooiness melting in their mouths. Each of them stayed silent and slowly got closer and closer to each other as their eyes began to close. It was like their lips were being drawn together and both of them just went with it because it felt so natural. Reality hit Lori just inches before they had any contact and she pulled away sheepishly. Lori couldn't believe she was about to kiss a total stranger and mentally scolded herself for being so stupid. She bit her lip nervously and began to stand up.
“We should go back to the others.”
“Um, alright,” Harry said as he got up and walked behind her.
“What the hell is going on?!” the girl behind the counter yelled.
“Get the keys and lock the doors!” Liam yelled back.
