The Final Song

Chapter 3

I stumbled as I got outside, running away from those evil demons people call kids. Babysitting tonight had been harder than normal, but that was perhaps because I was so anxious to do my best at getting a ticket.

A light breeze was rolling softly around me as I walked home. Looking down at my watch, I noticed the hour: 11:30 pm. The damn parents had come home late, and they hadn’t even paid the extra half-hour! I picked up the pace as tickets were going on sale at midnight exactly.

I needed a ticket, just one! Just one damn ticket: I didn’t care how much money it would cost, I just needed one. I just had to see them live, I had to be see my idols. If I could merely hear them, I’d know everything would be okay. Their songs had helped me and carried me through more days of bullying than anything else. They had helped me in more ways than I could count and they were the only thing that made me feel truly happy – excluding my father of course.

18 minutes passed as I crossed through my neighborhood.

I decided to start a light and slow jog as the minutes ineluctably passed. I was starting to worry, my blood turning to cold water as the back of my neck prickled with sweat.

I ran up the porch steps and checked the time as I fiddled with the keychain; 6 minutes left.

I started jumping a bit as I stuffed the key into the two locks and rammed my shoulder into the still stuck door. Once inside, I kicked the door shut, not bothering to lock it as I raced around to find my used laptop.

Finally, I found it amongst a pile of papers, burning a full 2 minutes in the process. My heart was racing in my ears as adrenaline was pumping through my body. I turned on the computer up as I drummed my fingers on the table, biting the nails of my other hand.

At last, the laptop woke up and I hurriedly went to check the ticket sales page. My eyes kept flicking from the clock on the wall to the computer screen. My fingers were tapping away as I refreshed the page. Ten seconds.

A small countdown began in my head as I cracked my fingers, loosening them to be ready for the quick action. I needed this. I needed to see them. I needed to see Harry, to see Liam and Niall; I needed to see Louis and I needed to see Zayn. Just once, please!

5…4…3…2…1…

I refreshed and I immediately moved as fast as I could.

Everything happened in a blur. I don’t even remember what happened, except for two things: first, the tickets were sold out under a minute; second, I had gotten one. I had gotten one. I had a freaking ticket! I had a freaking ticket to go see One Direction!

Adrenaline flew up ten times higher and, for a moment, I was on a high. I was going to go see One Direction live this weekend. Nothing could bring me down from this.
