Something You Want to Forget About

A Secret Revealed

Ameina shut the car door and headed towards the school doors. She was hoping to see Niall again. She thought that she could count on him to help her again – she needed someone to talk to.

Before finding Niall, she walked to her locker. She tried to ignore the comments of her in the hallway.

“She looks like a hippo!”
“Piece of crap.”
“Worthless!”

She tossed her bag inside her locker. When she turned around, Niall was standing next to her. A surprised look was on Ameina’s face.

Niall smirked. “Morning,” he greeted, “how’s your day so far?”

Ameina tried to hide the fact she was made fun of again. “Fine.” She mumbled. Niall raised an eyebrow. “It doesn’t look fine to me.”

His eyes looked behind Ameina, where a group of girls were pointing and laughing at her. Ameina sighed. She hoped Niall won’t notice why she’s wearing a long sleeve shirt on such a hot day. There was a reason why; she was trying to cover up her scars.

“Er, um, I have your jacket with me.” Ameina muttered, trying to change the subject. “Just give it to me after school.” Niall insisted.

“Anyway,” he continued, “do you… wanna hang out today?”
“S-sure.” Ameina mumbled. The moment Niall slipped out a piece of paper from his pocket, Ameina’s heart pounded even faster.

He took a pen from his hoodie pocket and wrote something on the paper and gave it to Ameina. He smiled a little and walked away to a group of boys.

Ameina looked down at the paper. On the paper it read “Nialler” with a smiley face and a phone number in a messy handwriting.

She widened her eyes. Niall had just given her his phone number. The problem was, Ameina didn’t have a mobile phone. That meant she would have to use the telephone she has in her room.

But Ameina wouldn’t hesitate to call later or tomorrow. This was when she found hope that she and Niall were friends.

“Are you ready?” Niall asked. Ameina nodded.

“You drive?” she asked. Niall shrugged. “Sometimes. My house isn’t really far away, but sometimes Greg or my mom comes to pick me up.”

Niall opened the door for Ameina. She thanked him and got inside. Niall then began to drive off.

They finally arrive at Niall’s house. It was only a ten minute drive from the school to there. They both went down and inside Niall’s house.

“This is the first floor,” Niall explained, “its just a guest room. The kitchen and stuff are upstairs.”
Niall led Ameina to the second floor. The first thing you see when you turn right is the living room – a television, two couches, a bean-bag chair, and a coffee table. The floor was carpet.

Not far from the living room was a door leading to the kitchen, but Niall didn’t really bother to show Ameina around in there, so they continued to go upstairs to the attic.

“…and this is my room.” Niall finished.
Ameina looked around. Niall had posters of bands like The Eagles and Coldplay on his wall. Niall sat down on his bed.

“So…” he uttered awkwardly, “what do you want to do now?”

Ameina shrugged. “Ice cream?” Niall suggested. Ameina nodded in agreement, reaching for her wallet in her backpack.

Niall stood up. “I’ll pay.” He said, before letting Ameina have the chance to argue. He grabbed his wallet, took Ameina’s hand and went downstairs.

Niall opened his wallet as they went outside, checking how much money he had left. Three dollars. One ice cream cone cost fifty cents.

He spotted an ice cream parlor nearby. “Over there,” Niall pointed. The two teens ran over to the parlor, which was next to a café.
“Which flavor do you want?” Niall asked Ameina, slightly nudging her. “Vanilla.” Ameina decided.

Niall turned to the lady behind the counter. “One vanilla and one chocolate ice cream cone, please.” He ordered. The lady nodded and scooped up a ball of vanilla ice cream before putting it into the cone, doing the same with the chocolate ice cream.

“One dollar.” The lady told. Niall handed over the money and walked over to a table with Ameina.

The two had a conversation. The topics were totally random, switching from Nando’s to cats, from cats to burgers. “Hey, I don’t mean to be rude, but…” Niall didn’t finish his sentence. He noticed a scar on her hand.

Crap. I forgot to put a bandage on it… Ameina thought, I need to think up an excuse.

“Oh, this?” Ameina muttered, hiding her hand in one of her pockets. “I… uh… I was helping to make dinner yesterday.” Ameina thought that Niall would believe that, but he looked like he didn’t.

“That doesn’t look like the type of scar ‘helping out to make dinner’ would make.” He spoke. Then he reached over to Ameina’s arm, pulling up her right sleeve, revealing a scar on it.

“…Why?” Niall asked, worried. Ameina shoved his hand away. “It’s nothing – you don’t need to worry about it.” She insisted. Niall shook his head. “I know what you did, so tell me why.”
