Something You Want to Forget About
Prologue
Ameina got into her swimsuit and walked out of the girls’ bathroom wearing a towel around her neck and goggles on her head.
Outside there were a large group of girls – the typical snobby, popular type of girls - dipping their feet in the pool. Ameina sighed. She knew she was going to get picked on.
Ugly, they’d tell her, Fat. Dorky. Idiot.
Finally, a girl with dirty blonde hair turned around. “Oh god,” she exclaimed, looking at Ameina in disgust, “like, nobody wears those swimsuits anymore…”
The other girls turned around and snickered. Ameina frowned, but tried not to think about it. I’m a nobody, Ameina thought, no one will ever be my friend. I’m so stupid…
The PE teacher blew her whistle and ordered all the students to get in the pool. Everyone jumped in.
“I want four laps, two freestyle and two breast stroke!” she yelled. Ameina pushed off from the pool wall using her feet and began to swim.
I can’t do this…
Ameina then remembered that she can’t swim. She has never been able to, and the PE teachers never even bothered to help her. She tried to kick her feet up more so her body is close to the surface of the water, but her feet keeps sinking again.
She was the last to reach the end of the pool. Everyone laughed at her. “She swims like a moron!” a brown haired boy commented, pointing at her.
As Ameina tried to hold her tears, she pushed off again, trying to ignore the boy’s comment. But it was stuck in her mind.
Ever since Ameina and her twin sister Anesha moved to the school, Ameina had always been bullied. She was a loner, while Anesha got more attention. She had friends. She had company. That was all that Ameina wanted.
PE finally ended and Ameina was looking forward to class. She only looked forward to classes and subjects because otherwise she wouldn’t look like a loner. She even had to eat on the floor at lunch because all the tables were full and no one would sit with her. Everyday it had always been like that.
