Anything Can Happen
☺ Chapter One ☺
Isn't life beautiful? Just think about it:
The tall, thick trees...The radiant sun that comes up every morning... Just the mere thought of being alive is amazing. I am grateful for that. Life is beautiful because…. I am me. I am who I choose to be. I can make my own decisions. I sound a little conceited, don't I? I have to struggle with believing that, but I tell myself its true. I believe that doing good deeds for others distracts you from your own sorrows, and I feel that sometimes that is what we need to do in order to heal ourselves. A smile for someone else will bring a light to their world; a smile from someone else will bring light into your world.
I sighed as I brushed my wet hair, untying all the knots. I had just taken a shower with cold water, making myself feel clean and new. I like that feeling. I put on my green, vintage dress. It was my favorite.
"Grey," gram calls from downstairs. "Breakfast is ready!" I smelled pancakes; a fragrance that pleased my nostrils. Then I got the smell of bacon. I don't quite like bacon. Just the thought of all the grease.... I shook off the thought from my head and headed downstairs. As I walked down the wooden steps, I counted them. One, two, three, four... There are exactly fourteen steps. I smiled proudly at myself of my minor accomplishment.
Gram turned around and quickly embraced me in a hug when she saw me. She squeezed me as if she hadn't seen me for years, then looked at me suspiciously. "You're all dressed and showered! Why are you dressed so fancy?" She grinned. "Are you seeing a boy?" I chuckled and shook my head no.
"No time for boys, remember Gram?" She nodded slightly. Gram always encouraged me to go out with boys. I mean, they asked me and all but I would always says no. It's the truth, though. Then I added."I have to focus on my studies if I want to get in." I know she knew I was talking about college. Her eyes beamed like shining stars. Something she would do when she had good news.
"I got an envelope earlier," she said. Wait, what? Could it be? She handed it over to me. "It's addressed to you." My heart started pumping so hard, I thought it would jump out of my chest. My fingers lazily ripped the envelope open, careful not to rip the paper inside. I took it out and began reading...
Ms. Grey Peterson,
We are glad to inform you that you qualified to enter..
I didn't need to read more. "Aaah!" I squealed like a child on Christmas. I started jumping up and down, as if I was jumping a rope. Gram knew what that meant, so she jumped along. I grabbed Gram's hand and led her outside to the porch. We sat down on the bench. I squeezed her hand as I looked out at the scenery in front of me.
