Worth Fighting For
Stand Our Ground
Angel woke from another nightmare. Louis was by her side immediately. She sat up and rested her forehead on his shoulder. He held her tight and rubbed her back.
“Louis,” she started, receiving his gaze. She kept her eyes down and he took both of her hands in his. “In my nightmares, there’s always a man I’ve never met before. He tells me that I have potential to be great.”
His face was dark when she met his gaze, and his voice was low when he spoke. “Why haven’t you told me this before?”
“I didn’t think it meant anything.”
Louis sighed and stayed silent.
“Does that mean I have to be turned?” she asked.
“No,” he said calmly. “You don’t have to do anything.”
Angel hesitated before speaking again. “I want to.”
Louis gave her a stern look. “No, you don’t. You have so much life ahead of you.”
“But I can help.”
“No.”
Before she could argue further, Harry walked in. Seeing the two holding hands in front of him, his face turned furious.
“What the fuck, Louis?” he growled. “You said you wouldn’t.”
Louis stood up. “Well, I did. So, bite me.”
He walked out of the room, leaving Harry to glare at Angel.
“We didn’t do anything wrong,” said Angel quietly.
“Everything about this is wrong. You don’t know how fucking serious this.”
Angel stared at the ground. Harry felt bad for scolding her. He sat next to her.
“Look, I’m only trying to keep you safe,” he said, much calmer now. He took a long pause before speaking again. “A long time ago, I fell in love with a girl named Leah. She was human, like you. And one day, we were sitting alone in the park, when Nathan found us. ‘It goes against our way of life,’ he said. And he killed her. He meant to kill me next and that’s when Louis and Zayn showed up to fight him off.”
Angel’s eyes held a sympathetic look. “I’m sorry, Harry.”
He looked up at her. “Be careful. You can’t let anyone else know about what’s going on between you and Louis. It spells danger for both of you.”
“We’re already in danger,” she said.

Louis had to go on one more recruitment run, but before he left, he kissed Angel deeply.
“I’ll be back before you know it,” he said before vanishing.
Angel went into the living room and sat next to Liam and Zayn.
“It’s getting closer, isn’t it?” she asked.
Zayn nodded.
“We’re very strong, though,” said Liam. “We have a chance, at least.”
“What if I join?” Angel asked.
The guys laughed.
“You’re human,” Zayn said. “You wouldn’t be able to fight with us.”
When she didn’t respond, Liam realized what she meant.
“You mean you want us to turn you?” he asked.
“You’d have more power with me on your side,” she said.
Zayn and Liam pondered for a minute. Niall, who overheard, came waltzing over.
“I don’t think it’s a bad idea,” he said.
“Louis would have a fit,” said Zayn. “He wanted to prevent that from happening.”
“It’s my choice, isn’t it?” she asked.
The guys all looked at each other, and then shook their heads at her. She sighed.

The next day, Angel sat in the living room with Gen, watching people train against each other. Louis was helping everyone he could. He glanced at Angel and gave a partial smile. She could tell he was worried.
“What was that?” Gen asked almost in a whisper.
Angel was about to speak when real fights broke out.
She heard shouting and saw blood splattering. Louis was on his way over to Angel when he was knocked down. He tore the guy apart and managed to make it over.
“What’s happened?” she asked.
“Nathan’s men,” he said.
“Turn me. I can fight.”
“No,” he said firmly. “I’m not risking your neck.”
“Have faith in me,” she said, pleading with her eyes.
Louis was close to saying yes. If he turned her, they could be together. Forever, at that.
“Louis!” Harry called, grabbing his attention. One of Nathan’s men was charging at Angel. Harry dove and grabbed him by the legs, tossing him aside, cracking his legs. The man screamed out in pain.
“Keep her safe,” Louis said before returning to fight.
Harry grabbed her by the waist and took her to her room, barring the door. He set her down on her bed and paced the room.
“We weren’t expecting this so soon,” he said after minutes of pacing.
“I keep trying to tell Louis to turn me so I can help,” said Angel, stopping Harry in his tracks. He turned to her.
“You want to become one of us?” he asked, curiously. He sat on the bed and looked at her features. “You’re serious. You want to help. You also wouldn’t have to hide your love for Louis.”
Angel blushed and looked at her hands.
Harry looked up. “Fight’s over,” he said, holding his hand out.
Angel took it and they went back out to the living room, where they saw small piles of bodies, blood, and flesh everywhere. There was a group of people standing around Louis, who was giving a speech.
“Do not take much timeto mourn our fallen friends. There will be plenty of time for that when this is over. When the time comes, we will bury them like kings and queens. But, right now, Nathan is planning more attacks. They know where we are, and they won’t stop until we’re all dead. I’m up here to tell you that we will stand our ground. We will bring the fight to them,” His eyes connected with Angel’s. “And we will win this war.”
The crowd cheered very loudly. Angel looked around the crowd. She saw Liam and Zayn huddled over two bodies. She walked over to them, stepping over bodies.
“He tried to protect her,” said Zayn softly.
Angel gasped when she saw who it was. Tears formed in her eyes as they fixed upon the bodies of Gen and Niall. Her eyes found Louis again, who had been watching her. He looked down at the ground and turned away.
