Worth Fighting For
Party
Angel had fallen asleep. In her dreams, there was a man with a blonde mohawk, a septum piercing and a lip ring, dressed in all black. His voice was deep and smooth, and she was drawn to him.
“Come,” he said, taking her hand and leading her into an alley filled with black smoke. He backed her into a wall, and as much as she knew she wanted to, she couldn’t resist him. He came closer, pressing his lips to hers and planting kisses along her neck. She moaned in pleasure and he opened his mouth to take a bite.
Angel sprung up out of sleep and saw Liam sitting at the foot of her bed. He looked worried.
“Are you alright?” he asked.
She was panting and sweating. When she caught her breath, she managed a “Yeah” and looked around the room. No one else was there.
“Your friend is awake,” said Liam.
Instantly, Angel jumped from her bed and ran into the other room to find her friend sitting on the couch with Niall and Zayn. She ran to hug the red-haired girl and squeezed tight.
“Are you okay!?”
Gen laughed a little. “I’m fine, girl,” she said.
Angel squeezed between Gen and Zayn. “Did they tell you what was happening?”
Gen nodded. “They’ve been really great, actually. For monsters.”
“That’s racist,” Niall said, receiving a small giggle from Gen. Angel shook her head.
“They said we need to stay here a while, since Joey knows where we live, now,” said Gen.
Angel sighed and nodded. She looked around the room.
“Did Louis and Harry leave?” she asked.
“To France, yeah,’ Zayn said. “They’ll be back within a couple of days.”

When Harry and Louis arrived back at what Gen called “The Safe House,” they weren’t alone. About ten or so guys and girls with thick French accents were with them. Louis seemed more distant than usual.
“You have humans?” one of the French girls asked.
“We’re protecting them,” said Liam, standing in front of them like a bodyguard.
The girl rolled her eyes and went back to whisper to the other girls. Angel turned to Gen and they both laughed.
“Get ready for a party,” Niall said, sitting next to Gen. “The French know how to throw a party.”
Sure enough, only an hour later, it was a mad house. Everyone was drinking and having a good time. Gen was dancing with Niall, and Harry was surrounded by French girls. The only one in the room not joining in on the fun was Louis. He stood in the corner and watched everyone with his arms crossed.
Angel walked over and stood next to him.
“Why aren’t you enjoying the party?” she asked.
His eyes continued to scan the room. “I have to make sure it doesn’t get out of control. It could get dangerous.”
He looked at her for a millisecond. “You shouldn’t be drinking.”
“Why not?”
“In case anything happens.”
“I’m fine.”
He shot her a warning look and she slowly set her drink down. His eyes returned to the party in front of him.
“Well, what about a dance?” she asked. “There’s no harm in that.”
“I don’t dance.”
“Oh, come on. Just one?”
He finally looked at her again. “I haven’t danced with a human in ages.”
“How long?”
He didn’t answer.
Angel sighed and looked away from him. It was clear she wouldn’t be getting anywhere with him so she walked to Gen and danced with her and Niall. Louis watched her carefully. She glanced back at him a couple times, hoping to catch him looking at her, but his eyes were never on her when she looked.
A few hours later, the party died down a little. Angel and Gen were talking on the couch when a French guy with short brown hair sat next to Angel.
“You are a very beautiful girl,” he said.
She smiled and replied “Thank you.”
“My name is Roma,” he said.
“I’m Angel.”
“’Is very nice to meet you,” he said, flashing a dazzling smile. Angel nearly melted. “I notice you not talking to many boys. Dis your girlfriend?” he asked, gesturing toward Gen.
Angel laughed. “No, I like boys.”
“Then how come you not talking to us? We good guys.”
“Um,” she glanced at Louis. “Harry said you guys can’t be with humans.”
“Not for relationships,” Roma said, winking at her.
In an instant, his head shot to Louis, who was staring straight at him. His expression was calm, but Roma stood up. He turned back to Angel and shook his head.
“I’m sorry,” he said. “We are strangers. I shouldn’t be asking you such things.”
“That’s alright,” said Angel. “I’m flattered.”
He smiled and nodded at her before walking away. She turned to Louis, who stared at her for a second and looked away.
“What the fuck was that?” Gen asked.
Protection, Angel thought.
