Dark Path
Chikis ran into my room, after my nephews stormed in, jumping on the bed with us. She was also happy to see Jacob and Domanic, licking they faces and running on the bed in circles She did that a lot when she was happy run in circles. I got up from my bed and put my shoes back on. I still had my work pants on, but had changed into a loose fitting shirt. I went to my closet getting my favorite grey hoodie that was 3x's bigger than my size and pulled it over my head. I put my long brown hair into a messy bun grabbing my phone and putting it in my pocket. The boys were still on my bed playing with Chikis.
"Lets go then." I said to them with a smile on my face.
"Yaaaay." Jacob screamed picking up Chikis and spinning around. Domanic did the same.
I told my brother and sis-in-law, Jessica that I was taking them out for a walk. Jacob had already put Chikis leash on while I told them. It wasn't to late time. It was barely 8, but in the month of November it got dark really soon.
I was holding Domanic in my arms, since he was only 1 and didn't like to walk that much, while holding on to Chikis leash. Jacob was ahead of us riding his scooter, while telling me his adventures in Texas. I couldn't really hear him so I just kept repeating "Ohh really..? uhhummm... what else..?" so he would think I was paying attention and laughed when he laughed.
There were more people out at this time walking their dogs than when I normally come, but since I had my nephews I had to come out early before they went to bed. I didn't really like walking Chikis this early because she barks at every dog that passes by. That's one reason, the other is that I don't like people nor do I have patience for them. I don't like seeing them and when they try to start a conversation I'm not a social person.
I prefer peacefully walking at 10 or 11 at night when the stars shine bright, less cars passing by, and no people just the silence of the night.
We arrived to the end of the path which was about a mile long. Last time I wasn't even able to walk all of it because of Harry. There was a little park and pond with fish inside, but it could not be easily seen at night since their were no light posts around. That's why I liked walking through this path, there were very little light posts along the side of the path. I liked coming to the pond at night since there were no light, but the moons and stars.
I have never been scared of the darkness I like it. Its when I felt more alive and peaceful. I have never been scared of being kidnapped or hurt since I carried a pocket knife with me when I walked at night. My brother Uriel had given it to me a year ago saying that I was stupid and crazy for walking alone at night, but I needed it.
I put Domanic on the ground now letting my arm rest, but still holding on to his little hand. Jacob threw his scooter to the floor picking up a rock from the floor and throwing it into the pond, then running to the parks swings.I let go of Chikis leash letting her run, then sat Domanic on the baby swing giving him a little push.
"Me too!" Jacob yelled while making himself comfortable on the swing's seat.
I smiled at him, walking over to him giving him a push on the swing.
"Do you need help?" A deep voice said coming from behind me.
I quickly turned a small huff escaping my lips at the unexpected person. My heart was beating fast, I couldn't deny it, I was a little scared.
Chikis too was surprised and started to run toward Harry barking, but I stepped on her leash before she could get any further away shutting her up.
It was dark, but I could still see Harry's tall figure walk toward me, his hands in his pocket with a smile on his lips.
"No." I responded quickly, composing myself. Walking to Domanic and standing there looking at Harry.
"Who is that Star?" Jacob asked still swinging through the air.
"Who's Star?" Harry asked looking at Jacob then at me.
"That's Star, my Tia." Jacob spoke pointing at me. He was now slowing down, turning his head to get a better look at Harry and me.
"Whats--" Harry started.
"Im Star. Star is my nickname since Estrella means Star in Spanish. And tia means aunt in Spanish." I explained cutting him off.
"Ohh." Was all he could say.
"Who are you?" Jacob asked, now in between Harry and I.
Harry bent his legs so he was at Jacob's eye level. "Hi I'm Harry." He smiled, revealing a dimple on one side of his cheek. He extended his hand out so Jacob could shake it, but Jacob stepped backwards bumping to me. His actions made Harry release a small laugh.
I was now holding Domanic in my arms and Chikis leash on the other. Harry got up now, to his normal height.
"Why do you talk funny? Are you Star's friend?" Jacob asked still curious. I couldn't help, but laugh at Jacobs curiosity and questions. Harry to laughed rubbing the back of his neck looking down at Jacob. He was going to speak, but I beat him to it.
"No Jacob he's not a friend, and he talks funny cause hes from another country. Its called an accent." I said still smiling looking at Harry. Jacob looked up to see me when I talked. "Now lets go before your parents start to worry." I added before anyone else could speak.
Harry looked at me now, he no longer had a smile on his face. "Well could I at least walk you to your house?"
"No its ok." I said starting to walk away. Leaving Harry standing alone next to the swings. "Jacob don't forget your scooter." I yelled as I saw him starting to walk toward the path leading to our house.
"Ohh yea." Jacob said running back to pick his scooter up. "Bye Harry." He waved, as Harry waved back. I didn't want to look back at Harry, so I just waited until Jacob was now in front of me again.
We made our way back to our house before 10 and saw that Leo was watching TV with Alex in the living room. I placed Domanic on the floor letting him run to his parents room following Jacob. I made Leo and Alex go to sleep now turning off the lights and feeding Chikis before I went into my room.
I got to my room and changed into my pajamas Going to bed and instantly falling asleep. I was exhausted from work and having to take care of my brothers.
"Lets go then." I said to them with a smile on my face.
