3 weeks later
Harry’s P.O.V
I got off the plane and followed everyone to baggage claim. I am so excited to see Maddie and Brooklyn. We got our suitcases and walked towards the exit. Louis spotted Eleanor and ran to her. Her bump is getting so big now, she’s due in a couple of weeks. I looked around for Maddie and couldn’t see her anywhere. Instead, Dani was holding Brooklyn. “Where’s Maddie?” I asked taking Brooke off her. “She couldn’t make it, she’s so busy at the moment.” Dani told me. I sighed and hugged Brooke. We all walked to the van and the girls went in Danielle’s car. They dropped me and Brooklyn home first. I unlocked the door, walked inside and put Brooklyn down before going into the kitchen. There was a note taped to the cupboard, it read: ‘I’m really sorry I couldn’t meet you at the airport, I’m so busy at work. Yours and Brooklyn’s dinner is in the fridge, don’t wait up for me, I’ll be home late. I love you, Maddie xxx’ I opened the fridge and there was a lasagne inside. I took it out and put it in the oven. Then I decided to check out Brooklyn’s bedroom. It’s amazing, fully furnished and decorated to how Brooke would want and I knew that when Brooke is older she’s going to love it. I went back downstairs and played with Brooklyn before having dinner, bathing her and putting her to bed. Once she was in bed, I had a shower and got into bed myself. It’s been a long day and I need sleep.
I woke up expecting Maddie to be lying next to me but she wasn’t. The bed was still made and obviously hadn’t been slept in. I went downstairs to look for her and found her running around getting things ready. “Where are you going?” I asked her. “Work,” She stopped running around. “Okay,” “I’m taking Brooke to nursery and I’ll see you later, I’ve got to go,” She kissed my cheek and grabbed all of her stuff and Brooke before running out into the garage. I turned and went back upstairs. I have a present for her because I missed her birthday but I don’t know when I’m going to give it to her. I got dressed and decided to go to Louis’ apartment. He’s probably packing because him and El want to move into their house next to ours as soon as possible. I got into my car and drove off. I drove to the apartments and went upstairs. I knocked on the door and Louis answered. “Hey mate, you could have just walked in. Where’s Maddie?” He said. “Working, I have a feeling she’s going to be working a lot.” “She did have an extremely successful single. She’ll be making a music video for it soon if she’s not already.” He replied. “I know, I know. I want to spend time with her though and I can’t do that if she’s always working.” I sat down. “Well El is still asleep so you can help me pack?” Louis looked at me hopefully. I stood up and we went into the kitchen where there was an open box. We packed up everything that they wouldn’t need and then moved on to another room. We packed for a few hours before El got up at around 11am. “Hey,” I hugged her. “Hiya, you okay?” She asked. “Yeah I guess, what about you? You’re so close to becoming a mum now.” “Maddie working? And I’m good, I know, I’m so excited!” She squealed. I laughed. “Yep, and that’s good.” “She’s always working these days. You’re gonna have to get used to it. She’ll be home at about 3.30 because that’s when she’ll have picked Brooklyn up from nursery.” She told me. “Okay, thanks.” We all sat and talked before I decided to go home. I got home and Maddie was pulling up at the same time. She took Brooke out of the car and walked towards the front door. I followed after her. “How’s work?” I asked once we were inside. “Yeah good, busy but good.” She told me. She put Brooke down and came over to me. I hugged her. God I’ve missed her so much. “I’m sorry I couldn’t meet you yesterday, I’m really busy at work at the moment. I have to go back soon.” She said. “Okay,” I kissed the top of her head and let her go. I’ve missed her so much and she doesn’t even care, all she cares about is her work. I ran upstairs and got her presents. I went back down and she was sitting at the table on Twitter. I gave it to her. “What’s this?” She turned to me. “Your birthday presents. I’m so sorry I was away.” I apologised. She opened her first present. “It’s gorgeous.” She said admiring the pink Pandora bracelet I had bought her. She stood up and kissed me before putting it on. She opened the second present and it was two tickets to see Michael McIntyre, one for me, one for her. She’s always wanted to see him since she watched a TV show with him on it and laughed for the whole thing. “Haha, thank you, I’ve got to go back to work. I’m sorry.” She said. “It’s okay, have fun,” I smiled. She picked up her bag and put her shoes on before walking out of the door. On my own again, fun.
Maddie’s P.O.V
I hate leaving Harry because I’ve missed him so much whilst he’s been away but I’ve got to work. I got to the office and walked up to Simon’s office. He wants to discuss making a music video. He told me to come in and I sat in front of his desk. We talked about making a music video for a while before he told me I could go home. As I was leaving I got a text.
From: Mum
I want you home now. Brooke and Faye’s grades have been dropping and it’s all because you’re not here and they’re getting caught up with you being famous. Home, now Maddie.
I sighed and locked my phone, it means I have to leave Harry again. I drove home and went upstairs. Harry was already asleep so I wrote him a note. ‘Had to fly back to California, family business. Brooke goes to nursery from 9-3 at the nursery we looked at down the road. Sorry, love you. Maddie x’ I packed a suitcase and went to kiss Brooklyn goodbye. I got into my car with the suitcase and drove to the airport. There was a flight going to California soon so I booked a ticket and sat in the departure lounge. My gate came up and I walked towards it. I sat at the gate before the plane started to board.
-Skip flight-
I arrived in California greeted by heat. I walked out of the airport and got into a waiting taxi. I told the driver my address and he drove me home. I got out and walked up to the door. I rang the doorbell and waited for mum to answer it. “You came?” She was surprised. “Yes mum, I left my husband and daughter behind and came to sort out my sisters. I only have a few days off work so we need to get this done quick.” I said walking in. “You know Harry only got home on Sunday? And already I’ve had to leave him. I’ve seen him for about 10 minutes for the whole time and here I am, thousands of miles away from him.” I said. “Look, I’m sorry but I’m not having Brooke and Faye’s lives ruined because you became famous. I can’t sort them out, you’re the only one that can.” Mum said. “You can go and pick Faye up from school if you want?” She told me. I stood up and she handed me her car keys. I got into her car and drove to Faye’s school. I waited for a while before seeing Faye walk out of the school. She recognised the car and walked over to it. She opened the door and looked up. “Maddie!!” She shouted. “Hey little sis, wasn’t expecting me were you?” I hugged her. “Why are you here?” She asked. “Because mum told me I had to come home, apparently your grades are dropping.” I said. She looked down. “Where’s Harry?” She changed the subject. “In England. Don’t try changing the subject, why are your grades dropping? When I came to consultation evening they said you were doing really well, what happened?” I pulled out of the parking lot. “I started bragging about you and Harry. Then you released your single and told people it was about us and I was really happy and told everyone. I stopped focusing in lessons because I was telling everyone about you.” She sighed. “Mum said as much, you know, you’re lucky I love you because if I didn’t I’d be shouting at you right now. Just because I’m famous doesn’t mean that you’re allowed to let your grades drop. I want you to try at school. If Brooklyn did this, I’d be really upset so I know where mum is coming from. I left my family in England behind and I left El, she needs me at the moment, I came to sort you and Brooke out and I’m not leaving until I know that you’re BOTH going to try at school.” “I’m sorry you had to leave Brooklyn and Harry. I didn’t know mum was going to make you come out here.” She said. “I got a text saying that she wanted me home. I went home and Harry was asleep so I left a note saying that I had to leave. I think, seeing as I haven’t heard from him, he’s really annoyed with me. He got home from tour on Sunday and I’ve seen him for about 10 minutes. He’s not happy.” I told her. “Sorry.” She looked at me. “It’s okay, come on, let’s go and sort Brooke out.” I pulled up outside the house and walked up the path. I unlocked the door and Faye walked in first. I followed after her. Brooke was watching TV. I covered her eyes. “Guess who?” I said. “Maddie!” She pulled my hands away and turned around. “Hi,” I smiled. “What are you doing here?” “Mum summoned me. Something about you failing at school?” I said. She looked down. “Why Brooke?” I asked. “I don’t know. I just lost all control over my schoolwork when your single came out. It made me feel really happy that you still think about us even when you’re not here. I thought that when you’re in England, you just forget about us and don’t care. Then your single came out and I was really happy that I was wrong that I let my grades drop. I’m sorry.” “Promise me you’ll try at school?” I said. “Promise,” She replied. “Good, now I need to call Harry.” I said walking up to my room. I pulled out my phone and dialled his number. It rang a couple of times before it went to voicemail. He hung up on me. I texted him. ‘Look, I know you’re annoyed but mum summoned me back here. I don’t want to be here, I want to be with you and Brooke but I can’t. I need to sort out Brooke and Faye and then I’ll be home. I promise. I love you x’. I sat on my bed on Twitter for a while. I got a reply from Harry. ‘I know you love them but what about us? I haven’t seen you for even an hour since I got home. I knew your work would get on top of you and now this too.’ I locked my phone. Another message came up on my screen. ‘I love you too.’ That made me smile, he probably knew that the first message would make me upset.
-Skip 2 days-
The plane landed and I got off ready to go home. I only had a small suitcase which could be used as hand luggage so I went straight to my car. I got in and drove home. I unlocked the front door and walked in to Harry singing to Brooklyn. I’ve missed my little family. “I’m home.” I said standing in the living room doorway. Harry looked up and smiled at me. I walked in and sat down next to him. He pulled me into a hug and kissed the top of my head. “Have fun?” He asked. “Not really, I had to tell my little sisters to stop thinking about me so their grades don’t drop anymore. And I missed you two too much.” I said. “Well you’re here now, for the rest of the day so you can spend some time with us.” He smiled. “Good.” I kissed him. We sat and played for a while with Brooklyn. “I love what you’ve done with Brooklyn’s room by the way.” Harry said. “Thanks, when are Louis and El moving in next door?” I asked. “In the next few days I think, why?” He responded. “I want to paint their nursery, and I have a spare key. Are they having boys, girls or one of each?” “A boy and a girl,” He said. I stood up and walked to the cupboard where all the paint was. I picked up a few cans and found the spare key. “You coming?” I asked poking my head around the doorframe. “Okay,” He stood up and picked Brooke up. I walked next door and he followed. We went up to the nursery and I put tape around the walls. I painted the base coat in yellow and sat on the floor waiting for it to dry. “How was tour?” I asked Harry. “It was okay. But I missed you so much after that amazing time in L.A.” He said. I laughed. “What happens in L.A, stays in L.A.” I said. I stood up and checked to see if the walls were dry. They were so I painted Winnie the Pooh on it. It’s good for boys and girls and makes a cute nursery. I finished and we went back home. I put Brooklyn to sleep and Harry and I watched a movie before going to sleep. “When I wake up, you’re not going to be here are you?” Harry said into the pillow. “No…” I replied. He sighed and turned over facing away from me. I fell asleep silently crying.
I woke up and got dressed quietly before getting Brooke ready. I went downstairs and got my bag. I was putting Brooklyn in the car when I started to feel sick. I ran back into the house and threw up in the downstairs bathroom. I sorted myself out and got into the car. I dropped Brooke off at nursery and went to work, I’m modelling today. I pulled up and Isabelle was standing outside. I walked over to her. “Miss Anderson, we weren’t sure if you were going to be here or not.” She said. “Well I’m here.” I laughed. “I can see, is everything okay in California?” She questioned. “Everything’s fine now thank you, should we get on?” “Rachel wants to see you.” She told me. I went inside and to Rachel’s office. “Ah Maddie, come in.” She said. I walked into her office. “We’ve heard you’re going back to University next week, is that right?” “Yeah,” I replied. “Okay, that’s fine. Can you get Isabelle to email us your hours so we know when you can’t work please. You’ve got a shoot today, your clothes are in your dressing room.” She said. I smiled and left. I walked to my dressing room and found a pair of leggings and a baggy jumper. Something I would normally wear at home. “Casualwear,” Emily said making me jump. “I’m going to leave your hair as it is today, it looks really nice.” She said. I nodded and went to get changed. I got changed and did the shoot. It took a few hours to get the shots they wanted but after that I was allowed to go home. I couldn’t be bothered to get changed and seeing as I get to keep the clothes I didn’t have to. I got into my car and checked the time. 2.50pm, just the right time to pick Brooklyn up. I drove to the nursery and got her before going home. Harry wasn’t in but there was a van outside Louis and El’s place so they must have moved in today. I went and knocked on their door and Louis answered it. “Hey! Come in!” He said moving out of the way. I walked inside and everyone was there. “Maddie!” Zayn, Niall and Liam shouted jumping up and running to me. “Hi guys,” I said. I put Brooklyn down and she crawled over to Perrie. “Thank you Maddie. Harry told us you did the nursery.” Eleanor said. “No problem, I wanted to help.” I replied. “How was work?” Dani asked me. “Good,” I said. I looked down realising I was still in the leggings and baggy jumper. Oops. “Don’t worry, you look gorgeous.” Harry smiled at me. I walked over and sat on his lap. I’ve missed him so much when he was away. We all sat and talked for a while. “So are you done now then?” I questioned. “Yeah, just El’s car to collect and then we’re sorted. Thanks for signing for the house by the way.” Louis told me. “No problem, I’m just glad I could help.” I replied. “Speaking of help, are you going to be around when the babies are born?” Louis continued. “I hope so. I’m going back to Uni next week though so I’ll be even busier than I am at the moment.” I answered. “Oh, not really then,” He said. “Probably not, sorry.” I apologised. “Don’t worry, what are you doing at SYCO at the moment?” “The next thing is I’m doing a music video and then I get a while off but I’m still busy with my modelling.” I replied. “Okay.” We talked a bit more and then Harry and I left for home because I have work tomorrow. When I was getting ready for bed I could see Harry was deep in thought. “What are you thinking about?” I asked him. “Nothing, I’m just worried that you’re working too much and that this is all going to get on top of you and you’re not going to look after Brooklyn anymore.” He said. I finished getting ready for bed and got in. Maybe that is happening. “That’s not going to happen,” I lied. I felt him wrap his arms around my waist but pulled them away. He took them back and turned away from me for the second night in a row. I only did it because I didn’t want to wake him up in the morning. I tried so hard to sleep but I couldn’t. I checked the time and it was 2am. Gentle snores were escaping Harry’s mouth. I know how much I’m upsetting him by working but I love my work. Of course I love my family too, he knows that. I hope. I don’t want him to think that because of all this I’ve stopped loving him because I haven’t. I still love him as much as I always have and it won’t change. Will it? I got out of bed and went into the nursery to see my baby girl fast asleep. I sat on the couch and watched her for a while before falling asleep.
