How To Be A Heartbreaker (A Zayn Malik Fanfic)
Chapter One
I'm a heartbreaker.
It's not a lifestyle for me, it's a job. I break hearts for a living. My basic source of income is from people who have had been hurt and want revenge.
I got into this I guess when my first boyfriend, Seth, dumped me for some cheerleader. He cheated on me so, in turn, I went out with all his best friends. I'm not a slut, I'm just doing people a favor.
The blare of a car horn brings me back from my thought as I tighten my coat around me. It's cold for early Autumn, the wind's icy hands cutting through my jumper and scarf. As I enter the quant little coffee shop a bell chimes above my head.
I scan the almost vacant shop with a trained eye; couples sit together, stealing small bites between sentences and few loaners like me watch glowing screens with focused expressions.
"How may I help you?" the girl at the front desk chirps when I approach her. I pull down my itchy scarf and she recognizes me instantly.
"You got it!" she says, answering her own question.
I sit down, patiently waiting for my name to be called at a nearby table as check my Twitter. I see one girl's post and scoff. She's practically begging One Direction for a follow back. So irrational, this one stupid follow, yet so important to the poor girl. Why doesn't she just give up while she's still ahead? She'd be saving so much humiliation.
“Grace Rose,” the perky girl from behind the counter calls. I pick my head up just in time to see a young girl carrying two cups back to a table with an equally young lad smiling brightly at her.
I feel a sudden pang of longing, wishing that I could have something like that with somebody. I wish I could feel what it is like to love. I shake my head to rid the thoughts. With my job I could never, it would complicate too many things. Maybe I’ll get a goldfish….
“Auden Taylor.”
I stand without a word and saunter over to the peppy girl. Her green eyes glint with such joy that it baffles me. She’s way too happy to be doing her job.
“That will be 17.58E, please,” she bubbles. Gosh her voice is so sticky-sweet that it’s sickening. I can just feel the cavities now.
I fake a smile, hand her the cash and trudge out into the crisp London breeze.
Just as that stupid, happy bell chimes, my phone rings. I stop- half in the door, half out- and wrestle my purse for my iPhone.
“Hello,” I answer, exasperated from searching and having to deal with people this early. Grant it, it’s 11:30 but any time before 1 is an unholy hour.
“Hi. Is this Auden Taylor’s heartbreaker service?” a small, female voice asks.
“This is. How may I help you?”
Wake up. I scold myself Make a good first impression.
“I need revenge on my exboyfriend.
“And who might that be?” I sigh, trying ever so hard to sound interested.
“Zayn Malik from One Direction.”
When I hear her response I almost drop everything in my hands. Well this is going to be a toughy.
