Fake, Stupid Love

The Seventh

Buzzer, shower, clothes, breakfast, double check, drive. This morning was uniform to all the others, and it rang in a new week of school. I really dreaded school, just because the best part of the day was my free hour. Even then, I was usually stuck reading a book or getting an early start on any homework that was assigned. I wondered if anything unusual would happen to me today, or if perhaps any of my day dreams would come true.

In the most boring of classes, I often spent my time staring off into nowhere and imagining scenarios that would make my life so interesting. I do admit, about 99% of them involved Zayn busting in the class, saying I needed to leave because it was an emergency, just to find out he was going to skip class and wanted to spend it with me. I just blush at the thought of anyone knowing about my fantasies, another reason why I make sure to keep to myself. I almost forgot about the fact that I was recently socializing more and more when a very excited boy appeared next to me.

"Em! What's going on?" Lou asked, smiling wide.

"You know. Just trying to stay awake." I shrugged, yawning at the thought of a warm bed.

"I hear ya there. Barely got any sleep last night... promise you won't tell the boys?"

"Why would I tell them?" I wondered aloud.

"Because I stayed up until 5 talking to and texting Jen!" he whispered a little quieter, face completely lit.

"Serious? How are things looking?"

"Great! We have a coffee date on Wednesday. Can you help me pick out what to wear? And tell me some things I should know before I go? I don't wanna make a fool of myself in front of her." he seemed to be building up anxiety already.

"Of course I'll help! But Jen is really laid back, so she won't care if you're wearing a suit or sweatpants."

"You are seriously the best ever!" Lou suddenly grabbed me in a hug, then spun me around. I couldn't stop the little shrieks of joy from escaping my lips, expecially when I heard that funny laugh of his. He finally put me down at the call of his name from across the walk.

"Don't let Jen see you two! Might get a bit jealous." a familiar voice joked, and my cheeks faded into a light pink as Lou let go of my waist and turned back to the beautiful boy.

"Jen wouldn't be jealous. I think it's you that's jealous!" Lou replied, and my happiness for him turned into anger and the need to slap him arrived quickly.

"Oh, yep, you got me. I can't stand to see you put your hands all over Em when clearly, that should be me." he said jokingly, which caused a snicker from even me, but I still felt embarrassed. By this time, we had walked closer to Zayn, and we were about a yard away from him.

"You know what? You're right. I have to go make a call to my person of intrest, so Em is all yours." Lou announced, purposely pushing me straight into Zayn before running into the building and around the corner.

I used my arms to block me from anything I might hit, and I was thankful for it when I felt a broad chest bump against the length of my forearm. I knew my face had only reddened, and I was almost afraid to pull away to look at his expression. Come to find out, I wouldn't have had the time anyway, and felt a pair of arms secure themselves around me. I felt light-headed at the thought of being in Zayn's arms, but I did my best to focus.

"Don't worry Em, I'll treat you so much better than Louis would." he chuckled, letting go of me. I laughed along, trying to cover up the mortifying feeling I felt inside. I couldn't believe Louis would do that to me! But, being the nice guy I've explained he was, he walked me inside and did his best to make small talk. It was hard to carry on a conversation with him, because all he talked about were people and things I wasn't involved in. We tried to settle on a subject, but it was no use. He had to leave for his first class, and so did I.

Arriving to the room, I sat down in my assigned seat and tried to ignore the babbling Louis who sat in the next row. He kept asking what happened, and when I finally couldn't block him out anymore, I shot daggers at him.

"So it went good!" he beamed.

"No, it was horrifying. Don't ever do that again." I said, not giving in to his kiddish attempts to get me to crack. I just continued proofreading my assignment and kept doing so until the teacher collected it. I managed to ignore him until he finally gave up, but when the bell rang, it started all over.

"Em! Em! I'm sorry, ok? You know I was playing around! I'm gonna try to help! But you gotta talk to me first." he pleaded.

"You're so obnoxious." I shook my head, loading my books into my locker and pulling out new ones.

"She speaks!" he yelled loud enough for everyone to hear, which caused a pause, but not for very long.

"Make me a deal." I turned to look him in the eyes.

"Sure."

"Don't do anything embarrassing or obnoxious, and you can 'help' or whatever you like to call it. Just don't make a fool of me." I begged.

"Ok, I promise I won't. Just let me know if I ever start to take it too far, and I promise I'll stop." he vowed.

"Whoa man, I thought we already went over the fact that Em is for me, and Jen is for you." Zayn walked up, putting his arm around me to show effect.

"What? Oh, no! You heard me wrong! I was talking about teasing-"

"Sure you were. Just stay away from my girl." Zayn winked at him, and unexpectedly kissed my cheek before walking off to leave. After he was out of earshot, Louis turned to smirk at me.

"What?" I asked, failing miserably at hiding my astonishment and excitement.

"I'll take payments of gratitude right now, in fact." he held out his hand.

"Ok ok. If you never pushed me into him, he wouldn't being doing all this. I get it. Thank you. But it's still embarrassing!" I pointed back at him, walking in the opposite direction as I started off to my next class.

"You're going to owe me BIG TIME!" he called, laughter ringing through his voice. I just shook my head, but jsut as I looked back in front of me to see where I was going, I bumped into someone.

"Sorry." I mumbled, hearing a similar apology from the one in front of me. I looked up to see it was Harry, and helped him pick up a few papers that fell.

"Oh, hi Em. How are you?" he asked, smiling when he realized who it was.

"Alright, I guess. And you?"

"The same. We both have Mr. Howard's class next, don't we?" he asked, standing up to continue on.

"Yeah."

"Well I'll walk you there." he smiled, falling into step beside me. He would ask a question, then talk about his side of it, and it was honestly adorable. He was acting like a teenager in his first job interview, trying to be polite and at the same time, let the manager know all the good things about him. We eventually arrived, and we didnt have assigned seats, so we sat next to each other. We kept chatting about random things, when Harry's next question took me by surprise.

"So, you and Zayn?" he asked, raising his eyebrows.

"What?" I asked, confused.

"I know you had a thing for him. And earlier, I saw you guys hugging and kissing and all. Is it official?" I giggled at how he put it together.

"No no, we aren't going out at all. Louis knows I like him too and was pushing me into him and now Zayn's joking about being with me, when nothing's really going on. Just a joke." I assured, although it kind of hurt to admit.

"Zayn can be really ignorant sometimes. Don't worry, he'll catch on soon." Harry smiled, and as if on cue, the bell rang.

The rest of the day went on normally, with the occasional greeting from Louis or Harry, and joking winks and kisses blown from Zayn. Not really any conversations though, and I continued to keep to myself. After it was all over, I drove over to work. I clocked in, got changed, and started right off the bat. I forgot about the new kid, and felt a wave of frustration rush over me when I saw him still struggling with stacking the dishes. I let it go, knowing that he wasn't my project anymore, and went to take some orders.

Time went on, and an hour or two into my shift, I heard my name being called. I sighed and walked towards the cranky boss lady, wondering what she could possibly want from me.

"You have a free hour... someone is waiting for you at table #1." she waved me away in dismissal, and it took all I had not to slap the pride right out of her. I just walked away, fumed, and tried to focus on something else. Who was waiting for me? And why did I get an hour off?

Turning the corner that revealed table #1, I saw a blonde Irishman with a sparkle in his eyes.
