Behind The Masks

I walked out, towel wrapped around my body, to get dressed, and saw Jake sitting on the edge of my bed. He looked to be deep in thought, as he didn't notice me.

"Jake?" I said softly. He turned around and smiled.

"Hey. I was just thinking about some stuff. I gotta go home, okay? Are you gonna be okay?" I smiled at his thoughtfulness.

"I'll be just fine. Email me once you finish your homework, okay?" He smiled and kissed me on my forehead, before leaving. I shut my door and put some clothes on. I heard a lock turn downstairs, and realized that Jake knew about the spare key I kept under my mat outside. I smiled, and hoped he kept it. I walked back to my laptop and saw a new document. I opened it up, and found this.

Hey Willow. Today was really weird. I hope you get some time to think about it. I hope everything will be okay. I'm still contemplating whether or not you should see this... But anyway. I'll be back. You may be asleep by then, but I will be back. After today, you shouldn't be alone. You never cry. I still don't know why you cried, but I'm here for you. No matter what. I'll see you later.

Why would Jake not want me to see that? What's wrong with it? He cares about me. So? What else did he put? I would just ask him tomorrow. Or later. Whatever. I laid down on my bed and stared up at my ceiling. Thoughts started running through my mind. Who's Autumn? Why was Harry so worried about her? Why am I scared? More importantly, what's gonna happen between me and Harry? I shook these thoughts out of my mind, just as my doorbell rang. I opened it, and found Jake standing there, books, notebooks, binders, and a pencil pouch in his arms.

"Nice shorts," Jake commented. I was wearing my old Hollister shorts.

"Hey! I thought you were going to do your homework!" He smiled at me, kind of... Relieved.

"I was, but I wanna be with you when I'm doing homework." I smiled and let him in. He smiled back, and kissed my cheek, before walking in. He walked up to my room, but not before he dropped a paper. I picked it up and examined it. I was about to called Jake, but it had my name sprawled across the front, in his slanted hand writing.

He was gonna give it to me anyway. I should just open it, right?

No, Willow! That's an invasion of his privacy!

But he's gonna give it to me!

How do you know that?!

Open it!

Don't!

Wait a minute. I'm talking to myself.

I shook it off, and opened the letter slowly.

"Hey Willow!" I head Jake call. I quickly shoved the paper in my back pocket and leaned against the wall.

"Yeah Jake?" I asked. He slowly descended down the stairs.

"Aren't you coming?" he asked. I nodded.

"Just a sec." I replied. He gave me a confused smile, and walked upstairs. I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding in. I took the letter out of my back pocket and opened it up. I gasped at what it said. Is this a good thing... Or a bad thing?

Willow, I like you, like, really REALLY like you. I always wished I could tell you, but I never had the guts. And today, you found Styles. My god, I've been trying for YEARS to get that close to you. He took mere minutes. I guess I could never get that close. Maybe, it's my fault, to choose to be your friend, not something more. But that's what I always wanted to be. Your boyfriend. But I was always stuck in the friend zone, while you found more guys like Micah. But they broke your heart. And you always came to me. I loved being with you, you snuggling into my chest. I love how your hair smells, and how warm you are. You're nice, funny, cool. I really like you. It was my choice to become your friend, but falling for you was way beyond my control. Sorry to put all this pressure on you.
