Little Misunderstandings [Sequel to Little Steps]

Chapter Forty

Niall's P.O.V.

I sat at the breakfast table with my hand around a cup of tea, scrolling through messages and spam emails on my phone. Nothing caught my eye in the slightest.

I set down my phone and gulped down the rest of my tea, the hot liquid igniting my throat painfully. That wasn't the best idea.

I hadn't gotten much sleep last night. Aria slept peacefully, a first, considering she normally had so many nightmares. Good for her. She would be highly energized when she woke up. Myself on the other hand, not so much.

No matter how many times I tried to put myself to sleep, I couldn't bring my eyes to close. I didn't know why. All I wanted was to sleep, but something was stopping me. Something in my conscience. Like something bad was going to happen had I fallen asleep.

I was becoming so paranoid.

But who could blame me? My family and I were being stalked twenty four seven by Aria's sister's insane twin sister. My children had almost been killed not too long ago. Corryn was still in the hospital. What's not to be terrified about?

I spotted movement coming from the kitchen entrance, followed by Aria lazily entering the kitchen in a white robe and slippers. She looked rejuvenated after a long, peaceful sleep, which was all I wanted for her. She needed to be relaxed.

"Morning." She chirped happily, smiling as she walked towards me. Her face had a small, natural freshened blush to it, clear of makeup to hide her stress lines. She looked beautiful.

"Good morning." I whispered, holding back a yawn. I couldn't let her know that I hadnt slept last night. Instead, I wrapped my arms around her waist and pulled her to me, kissing her rosey lips softly. Her large stomach pressing against mine, reminding me of what a proud father of three I would soon be.

"Did you not get any sleep?" Aria asked once she pulled away. She studied my face, blinking with frown on her lips. I opened my mouth to tell a fib, but she cut me off. "Don't lie to me."

I sighed in defeat. My wife was too damn clever for her own good. "Not really."

"Why?" She asked, puttig her hands in her hips. "Are you okay? Is something bothering you?"

"No, I swear. Nothing's wrong."

"Niall," Aria gave me a look, crossig her arms over her chest. I tried my best to not give in to her bright eyes and sexy raised eyebrow. I couldn't understand why I tried to resist her. It was practically impossible.

"It's just the weather." I lied. The weather? Really, Niall? "It started pouring late at night and the sound was echoing into the bedroom."

"So why didn't you get up and go sleep somewhere else?" Aria questioned, suspicion present in her tone.

I smirked. "I couldn't leave my princess and my baby princess alone."

"Cute." Aria snorted, standing up straighter. "You're loss if you don't want to tell me. Just keep that secret bottling up inside you until you burst."

Then she walked away, grabbing an apple from the fruit basket on the way out.

How was I supposed to keep her and our children safe from someone so dangerous? I could only do so much. I stirred my coffee, staring at the wall.

What to do?

Aria's P.O.V.

I stood on the doorstep on Harry and Corryn's house, taking nervous breaths as I prepared myself to ring the doorbell. Harry told me that this was the first day that Corryn was back home since I had seen her last week, and for some reason that made me nervous. I felt like I should have gone and see her sooner, but life gets in the way. Motherfucker.

I would also have the face Harry, who texted me to come over in the first place.

Harry and I were still walking on ice in terms of his fondness of me. I had caused him and his fiancé so much pain and suffering, so I completely understood him. I would hate me too.

The door opened and Harry stood there, a hard look pentrating into my soul.

"Hi." He forced out, stepping aside.

"Hi, Harry." I smiled nervously, stepping into the household. The house was quiet, when normally some John Mayer classics or some 1975 would be rolling in the background.

I turned to face Harry, clasping my hands together. "So, where's Cory?"

"Upstairs." He continued to stare at me.

I locked eyes with him then looked away uncomfortably. "Well, can I go see her?"

Harry remained silent.

In the next moment, he had managed lunge at me at full force and tackle my body with a hug. His arms wrapped around me tightly, his body shaking against mine.

"Aria," Harry croaked, sobbing into my shoulder. "Aria, they saved her."

"I know," I smiled, rubbing his back. "I really am glad that Corryn's safe."

"No," he pulled away, resting both his hands on my shoulders."Y-you didn't visit... b-but..."

"But what?"

"But w-while you were gone, Corryn went into surgery."

"Shit!" I cursed loudly. "I'm so sorry!"

"No, shut up!" Suddenly, Harry was laughing through his tears, squeezing my shoulders firmly. "They saved her! The baby!"

I froze up.

"No way." I exhaled. "But...but how?"

"It was a miracle." Harry cried, hugging me again. "But they did a full day surgery on Cory and got the baby out. Of course she's premature, and due to sanitary issues, I haven't gotten to see her. Cory's in the hospital right now."

"Harry," I grinned up at him. "That's amazing."

"I know, Aria." He chuckled happily. "It's god's blessing."

"How is Corryn doing? The surgery must have been though on her."

"She's doing fine." Harry smiled. "Would you like to go to the hospital to see her now? I'm allowed to see the baby today too."

"Yeah, of course." I agreed.

Harry and I left the house shortly after continuing to shout with joy with Harry. I followed Harry in his car to the hospital, walking through the entrance doors with him.

"We're here to see Corryn Winters and Corral Styles." Harry told the receptionist.

Corral Styles. God, that was such a beautiful name. I mentally squealed at the fact that my best friend had a daughter. And no matter how premature she was, she would be beautiful.

"Ms. Winters is in room 281, second floor." The receptionist informed kindly. "As for the baby, Corral, she is in the Premature nursery, second floor at the end of the left hall."

"Thank you so much." Harry nodded, grabbing my wrist and tuggig me along. We hurried into the elevator and rode our way up to floor two, nearly crashing into a nurse as we exited the elevator, eager to see Corryn.

We slowed down when we came upon the 200's hallway, searching for the room. When we reached room 281, Harry froze.

At first, I opened my mouth to say something, to comfort him and help him get the courage to see his sick wife. But then I realized that lack of courage wasn't the deal at all.

The sounds coming from the room had frozen Harry, and then, made me freeze too.

Harry's P.O.V.

I was frozen in place, unable to enter the room. Because I heard her. Yes, I heard Corryn sobbing, but also her. My daughter.

My baby Corral.

"Is that..." Aria began, but I cut her off, a rush of adrenaline pushing me forward to enter the room.

I gasped at the sight before me. There was my beautiful fiancee, sitting at the edge of the hospital bed with our baby in her arms. Corryn looked up at me with tears pooling in her crystal blue eyes.

"Surprise." She whispered.

I came closer, my hands and knees feeling weak and wobbly. This moment seemed surreal. I had nevered imagined the moment I became a father to be so beautiful and frightening all together.

"Oh my god," I croaked, looking down at our daughter as Corryn held Corral in her arms. "She's fucking beautiful."

"Hey," Corryn slapped me, sniffling and she giggled. "No cursing around our baby."

"I want to hold her." I gulped, sitting down and scooting closer to Corryn. She first pressed a kiss to the corner of my mouth, then gently placed our daughter in my arms. Tears began to prick my eyes, but I didn't bother to wipe them away.

"Hey baby Corral." I spoke softly, tickling the tiny chin of my daughter. She yawned, grabbing onto my finger. My heart broke at the sight of wires and patched connected to her chest and arms, but I decided to ignore them.

"The doctor says she's gained her health miraculously fast." Corryn spoke with a shaky voice, resting her head on my shoulder. "Harry, we are so blessed."

"I know, baby." I whispered to Corryn. "I know we are."

I then focused my attention back on Corral, who continued to hold her grip around my finger. A tear of mine fell onto her cheek, which she winced at. I doubted the newborn had good vision still, so I didn't expect her to do much.

"Daddy loves you." I told Corral, staring into the tiny green eyes than matched mine. Corral yawned in response, shutting her beautiful eyes. She seemed to be growing a bit of Corryn's soft brown hair, easy on the curls. I guess the curls gene was primerly for me.

"She's an angel." I insisted to Corryn, who nodded in agreement, her tears wetting the sleeve of my shoulder.

"Harry, how did this happen?" Corryn whispered as I brought Corral's head up to rest on my shoulder. Her small arms clung around my neck as she snuggled into me. "Just a week and a hald ago we thought we had lost our child. How?"

"I don't know, Cor." I told her honestly. "But I'm just glad that I have you and my baby with me now."

"Me too, Harry."

Corral's green eyes slowly made their way open, blinking softly as she got used to the blurry lighting. She grabbed onto my face and nuzzled her cheek against me, yawning oce again against my face. I raised her up, holding her delicate body in front of me and pressed a kiss to her forehead, then again, and again. Corral simply stayed still, wondering what was going on in her newborn oblivion.

She was beautiful, so lovely.

And she was mine.

Aria's P.O.V.

Corral Rianne Styles was the cutest baby in the world. I expected a premature miracle child to not look so healthy, let alone open her eyes, but Corral looked as healthy as a newborn could get. It was adorable how Harry refused to let go of her, pressing his daughter to his chest protectively.

"You're gonna have to let go so Ari can hold her," Corryn nudged Harry, tryinf to convince him to let go of the infant.

"You can visit another day." Harry shrugged. I let out a laugh.

"It's okay, Cory." I turned my attention to her, settig a hand on her shoulder. "Harry's not going to let go of her. That's exactly how Niall was with Colette. It's a weird father daughter thing."

Corryn giggled softly, wrapping her arms around me. "I missed you, Ari. And I'm so sorry if you feel guilty. Harry and I both know that what happened was out of your control."

"Yeah," Harry looked up from Corral with sincerity in his eyes. "I truly am sorry for everything. Blaming you was out of line."

I didn't tell them how much their blame had scarred me. I didn't tell them that they had me worried and up all night. I didn't tell them that I shouldn't forgive. Instead, I put on a smile, straightened my back and said, "It's okay."

I didn't know what Candace and her boyfriend were planning, but my time seemed limited. I didn't want to spend it in a bad relationship with my best friend. It just wasn't worth it.

I arrived home after an good hour of hanging out with Corryn, Harry and their baby Corral. Leaving them alone for the rest of the night was the right thing to do. They had already been through alot and what they needed was time to themselves.

Upon entering the house, I heard screaming, followed by Niall whizzing past me and into the kitchen. I closed the door, blocking out the cold and headed into the kitchen to see what the hell was going on.

"Niall, what are-"

"Shh!" He slapped a hand over mouth, pulling me into the pantry closet. "We're playing hide and go seek tag and I swear to god if I lose, I'm never talking to you again."

"Never?" I whispered.

"Never." He hissed back.

The room was pitch black, and from the way I arranged the pantry, one lean against any wall would knock a bunch of food boxes and bottles to the ground. I sighed quietly and crossed my arms over my chest, tapping my foot.

Silence.

Tap, tap, tap.

"So, how's Corryn?" Niall whispered, somehow finding his way to me and wrapping his arms around my waist, even in the dark.

"She's doing amazing." I grinned, slowly running my fingers through his hair. "Plus, I have some really, really great news."

"Yeah?" His breath fanned against my face. I twisted my fingers into his hair.

"Corryn went into surgery on Sunday." I said softly. "They saved the baby."

I heard Niall open and shut his mouth, speechless at the new information. "Don't fuck with me, Ari." He finally said.

"I'm not kidding." I insisted, hitting his shoulder. "Harry took me to the hospital today and I got to see Corral. She's so cute, Ni. She's got Harry's eyes and Corryn's hair and she didn't even cry once."

"Wait..." Niall said slowly. "Are you for real?"

This boy.

"Yes, you dumbfuck!"I screeched, whacking the side of his head. Niall cursed loudly, stepping back on instinct at the sound of my voice. He crashed into something, sending supplies and food falling to the floor.

"Fucking shit!" Niall screamed suddenly. "Damn it, motherfucking shit!"

"What?" I asked frantically, feeling around the walls to turn the light of the pantry closet on. I found the door knob and pushed the door open, light flooding the pantry. And then I saw why Niall had screamed.

The tip of a kitchen knife was stuck in his foot.

"Oh my god!" I yelled, running to his side. He moaned in pain, leaning his head against a shelf.
"My poor kitchen knife." I sniffled, staring at Niall's foot.

"Get it out." He cried hoarsely, tears pooling in his eyes. Dang it. He had ignored my joke. It was a good one too.

"What the fuck am I supposed to do? Just pull it out like it not the grossest thing?"

"Yes!" Niall shouted.

I grabbed Niall's injured foot and squeezed tightly around the area on injured skin, pulling the knife out in one go. Niall screamed, grabbing onto my arm and nearly squeezing the life out of me. There was blood dripping down his leg and onto the tile like a mini river.

God, I had seen way too much blood for it to be healthy.

I grabbed a couple of kitchen towels and brought them into the pantry, wrapping them around Niall's foot to cover the bleeding. Then, I helped him hobble over to the kitchen and seat himself on the kitchen counter.

"You're suh a klutz." I snorted, grabbing some antibacterial disinfectant and a roll of bandage tape from the the medicine cabinet.

"You're just rubbing off on me." He retorted, shootig me a winning smile. I flipped him off gracefully and bent down to dab at the cut with a wet towel. I felt a hard smack on my butt not a second later, causing me to stand up and glare at Niall.

"What?" He asked, giving his best poker face.

"Try that again and I'll slap your face the way you slapped my butt."

"What can I say?" He chuckled. "I like the booty. I want the booty."

I slapped him.

He was asking for it.

Also I think it's hard to get recognized on wattpad because there's so many amazing authors and so many books that there's a possibility that my story might never be seen. tat's why I don't use wattpad as much. Sorry!!! but thank you for reading, and I love writing for people like you :)
