Still the One

Starlight

Lauren
Jordan and I were about to begin our ritual jam sessions. Sunday afternoons after church. Today, it was at her house because she has a piano, and I can just bring my guitar. We decided on a full out Taylor day where we played nothing but her four albums and countless singles. We were set on starting with Better Than Revenge, concert version, because it's so upbeat and Jordan likes to flip her hair the way Taylor does.
"Hey, it's me. Leave a message. And make it hot!" Jordan said in a voice like the one in the recording.
"Now go stand in the corner and think about what you did!" I finished.
"The story starts when it was hot and it was summer and I had it all I had him right there where I wanted him. She came along got him alone and let's hear the applause. She took him faster than you could say sabotage. I never saw it coming wouldn't have suspected it. I underestimated just who OAA's dealing with. She had to know the pain was beating on me like a drum. She underestimated just who she was stealing from."
We began.
"She's not a saint and she's not what you think. She's an actress. Whoa. And she's better known for the things that she does on the matress. Whoa. Soon she's gonna find stealing other people's toys on the playground won't make you many friends. She should keep in mind she should keep in mind there is nothing I do better than revenge." We belted out the chorus, getting pumped for the amazing second verse.
"She looks at life like it's a party and she's on the list. She looks at me like I'm a trend and she's so over it. I think her ever present frown is a little troubling. She thinks I'm psycho 'cause I like to rhyme her name with things. But sophistication isn't what you where or who you know. Or pushing people down to get you where you wanna go. They didn't teach you that in prep school so it's up to me. That no amount of vintage dresses gives you dignity." That was my favorite part.
Then comes the chorus.
Then comes "I'm just another thing for you to roll your eyes at honey. You might have him but haven't you heard. I'm just another thing for you to roll your eyes at honey. You might have him but I always get the last word. Whoa."
Then the chorus again.
"Do you still feel like you know what you're doing 'cause I don't think you do. Oh. So you still feel like you know what you're doing? I don't think you do. Don't think you do. Legs hear the applause. Come show me how much better you are. You're so much better so you deserve some applause. She took him faster than you could say sabotage."
Finally, our massive piano and electric guitar solos.
"That was so totally good!" Jordan said.
"Yes. I think Taylor would be proud."
Then we did Enchanted, Innocent, Cold As You, Fearless, Sweeter Than Fiction, Ronan, and Red. It took a long time.
"Hey I'm gonna go change for Back to December and Last Kiss since those are next on our list, kay?" Jordan asked.
"Okay. I'll just go get a snack."
I heard Jordan flush the toilet just as the doorbell rang. Shoot. I forgot everyone was coming today. I quickly let them in and told them to be quiet.
"Jordan's upstairs. She doesn't know you're here so let's do something funny," I said and ushered them all into a large coat closet near the room where Jordan's grand piano is.

I knew the boys and their girlfriends were coming today, I just thought they would be an hour late, like yesterday.
I had recently bought a new dress, specifically for these jam sessions, but more practically, for my cousin Stacy's wedding. I was a bridesmaid, and I was wearing a periwinkle princess dress. It was perfect for all the slow, piano only songs by Taylor.
I gracefully walked down the stairs, searching for Lauren. Upon my disappointment of not finding her, I left for my piano. I could do a song by myself. I decided not to do Back to December or Last Kiss without her, but I still wasn't sure on what song to pick.
There was White Horse, The Way I Loved You, You're Not Sorry, Innocent- It has to be White Horse.
"Say you're sorry that face of an angel comes out just when you need it to. As I paced back and forth all this time cause I honestly believed in you. Holding on the days drag on stupid girl, I should've known. I should've known. I'm not a princess this ain't a fairy tail. I'm not the one you'll sweep off her feet. Lead her up the stairwell. This ain't Hollywood. This is a small town. I was a dreamer before you went and let me down. Now it's too late for you and your white horse to come around. Maybe I was naïve got lost in your eyes and never really had a chance. My mistake I didn't know to be in love you had to fight to have the upper hand. I had so many dreams about you and me. Happy endings. Now I know." I sang. Then the chorus again. I loved this song. The chorus was my favorite part. "And there you are on your knees. Begging for forgiveness, begging for me. Just like I always wanted but I'm so sorry. 'Cause I'm not your princess. This ain't a fairy tail. I'm gonna find someone someday who might actually treat me well. This is a big world that was a small town there in my rearview mirror disappearing now. And it's too late for you and your white horse. Now it's too late for you and your white horse to catch me now. Oh try and catch me now it's too late to catch me now." Followed by some pretty chords.
I was interrupted by applause, causing me to fall off the piano bench with a thud.
"Hey! Why didn't you tell me they were here?" I asked Lauren.
"Because I wanted to see if you would do something amusing. And you did."
"They weren't supposed to see that, you know." I said.
"I know," Lauren smiled.
Niall looked confused. "You said you weren't a princess! You're my princess!"
Aww. Fangirl moment. I had always dreamed of Niall calling me his princess and now he was.
"They're so cute!" Dani whispered as Niall picked me up, careful not to rip my dress.
"Thanks. I always wanted to be a princess." I smiled.
"It's true. She even tried to be the princess of her swim team and tennis team!" Lauren laughed.
"You're killing me!" Louis laughed.
"I didn't try," I corrected. "I was. And the only competition I ever had was Faith. And she was in seventh grade so I had eigth grade privileges."
"You were the princess until eigth grade?" Zayn smirked.
"Yes," I sighed. This was too embarrassing. "Lauren tried to hit on a junior in eight grade!"
"I did not!" Lauren was embarrassed now.
"You did too. You said 'Hey, if you need someone to take to the prom, I'm available!'" Everyone was laughing and all the attention was off me. "And then she winked and handed him a piece of paper with her number on it!"
"Did you really do that Lauren?" Harry asked between laughs.
"Yes, I did," Lauren admitted.
"OMG! Lauren! That is so funny! What did he do?" El asked.
"He just looked at her and was like 'Umm I have a girlfriend,'" I laughed.
"Oh Lauren!" Liam said.
I knew she would get me back, I just didn't know when.

Notes

Another chapter! Two days in a row. Tell me what you want Lauren to do. I'm kind of running out of ideas but I know I want to do like a sequel of when Lauren and Jordan are in college and they have eating disorders. Jordan will be balemic(?) and Lauren will be anorexic. Then in the final book, they'll get married and all that. Just leave a comment or message me.
