She's Not Afraid

Chapter Six

Chapter Six Brea you are an awful human being, I thought as I continued my steamy make out session with Harry. We were at his flat and Louis was not home. Our initial plans were to go see a movie, but somehow we ended up making out on the couch. There was no telling how long this had been going on. We would pull apart to catch our breaths for a few seconds before diving back at each other’s lips. My arms were wrapped around Harry’s neck and he held onto my waist.
“How did we end up here?” Harry asked in a huff as we pulled apart.
“I have no idea,” I admitted as my phone vibrated on the floor. It had fallen out of my hand at some point. Harry reached down to retrieve it for me. The smile on his face quickly wiped away when he looked at the screen meaning it must have been Liam. Slowly Harry handed me the phone watching me warily. I unlocked the screen to see a new text message from Liam. Liam: Don’t make any plans for tomorrow. “Sorry,” I apologized awkwardly. Harry nodded and turned to look at the television which was not powered on. I took it as a sign that it was okay for me to reply to Liam. Me: Why not…?
Liam: You’ll see ;) I started typing my reply as someone knocked. Harry went to answer the door. I was about to hit send when I heard a familiar voice. Cautiously I walked towards the door. There he was, Liam Payne, in the flesh.
“Brea?” he looked at me with a confused expression. I could only imagine what I must have looked like. My jean capris were ruffled. My purple down was no longer buttoned completely up revealing majority of my white camisole. My hair had slipped out of the uniquely messy bun it was in and my lip gloss was smeared.
“Hi Liam,” I smiled weakly wishing that I had just stayed on the couch. Liam looked back at Harry who was as messed up in appearance as I was. Realization came across his face. “I should really go,” I announced to no one in particular grabbing my keys from the hook by the door.
“But we didn’t even make it to the movies. Brea you can’t go.” Harry pleaded with those eyes that made my brain turn into mush.
“Yeah please don’t leave on my account,” Liam added. “I’m here for Louis who I’m guessing isn’t here.”
“Nope,” Harry answered shortly looking back at me as I bit on my bottom lip contemplating. “Are you going to stay?” he asked as if it was just us there. I shook my head decisively. He pouted momentarily, “I’ll walk you to your car.”
“No I’ll do it,” Liam stopped him suddenly. “I’m leaving anyways.” He smiled at me.
“Uh okay,” Harry agreed pulling me into a hug. He held on longer than necessary taunting Liam before releasing. Then he did the unthinkable. He kissed me. It was just a quick peck on the lips, but still it was a kiss. “Call me when you’re home.” I nodded too ruffled to speak. “Bye mate.” Harry smiled mischievously as he closed the door. Liam and I walked out of the building and to my car silently.
“So what are these plans that you have for tomorrow?” I asked trying to break the ice. Liam chuckled stealing a glance.
“It’s a secret Brea.” I pouted. “You will like it babe.” We had reached my car. He reached behind me to open the door. “I’ll pick you up at twelve.” He informed. I nodded with pursed lips before climbing behind the right hand steering wheel. Liam was still holding onto the door. He leaned down and kissed me. It wasn’t a quick peck either. It was deep as if there was some message behind it. When he pulled away there was a smile on his face. He closed the door softly and backed away.
“Wow,” I exhaled as I started the engine. Liam and I had never kissed like that. Scratch that. Since that first kiss we hadn’t actually kissed much. Just a peck here and there and that was it. My friendship with Liam mainly consisted of movie marathons, game nights, and odd conversation, but I liked it.

The next morning I woke up at eight o’clock. Megan, Brandon, and Michael were all still asleep. By nine o’clock I had a breakfast of French toast, omelets, and sausage cooked and the delicious aroma filled the house. Megan stumbled into the kitchen in her pajamas.
“I love it when you cook,” she smiled walking to the plate of French toast on the table and taking a deep whiff. Megan looked at the clock on the wall, “Why am I up so early? Why are you up so early?” When I didn’t answer her, she looked back at me with knowing eyes. “Which one?”
“Liam,” I sighed. “This is weird seeing as he basically walked in on Harry and me last night.”
“What?” Megan gasped as Brandon appeared groggily in his black gym shorts only.
“Whoa, not what I want to hear from my baby sister in the morning.” He stopped in his steps. “Should I come back?” I shook my head. Brandon sighed, “Good, I really need food.” Megan looked at me with pleading eyes. I widened my eyes signaling to her that we would talk about it later.
Eventually we were all up and eating breakfast. Afterwards Megan and I cleaned the kitchen. I told her about the events from the night before, including both kisses.
“Oh my gosh,” she gasped. “Brea they’re openly competing for you.” Megan folded her arms leaning against the counter, “What are you going to do?” I shrugged walking into my room to get dressed. The truth was that I had no idea what I was going to do. “Well just cute. Liam seems to only see the relaxed you.” I nodded opening the closet door and grabbing a light blue razor back maxi dress. “Perfect,” Megan smiled walking out of the room.
Two hours later I was dressed in the dress with black wedges and my hair was in a messy bun with a braid across the front of my head. The doorbell sounded and I quickly made my way to the door. Liam smiled at me in his khaki pants and button down.
“You look very nice,” he complimented me. I smiled and gave him a once over.
“You don’t look bad either buddy.” I jabbed his chest playfully. Liam chuckled.
“Are you ready to go?” I nodded and he led me to the black SUV waiting on us.
“Where are we going?” I asked as the driver closed the door. Liam shot me a look silently saying that his lips were sealed. “You British boys and your secrets,” I muttered getting comfortable. After several minutes of riding the car finally stopped. As the driver got out to open the door for us Liam turned to face me full on.
“This is only part one of what I hope will be an amazing day,” he informed me. We got out of the car and a gasp escaped my lips before I starting bouncing on my tippy toes rapidly and clapping. Liam chuckled, “Brea are you okay?”
“Am I okay?” I burst. “No! I love carnivals!” I threw my arms around his neck and kissed him. “This is great Liam.” He took my hand and led me forward.
“Well let’s go enjoy it.” He smiled at me and I couldn’t help smiling back. Liam seemed to know everything about me. He knew my tails, likes, and interests. He proved that even more when he suggested that we get cotton candy once were inside of the gates.
“I’m so overdressed,” I complained as we prepared for the Egyptian Ship to take off (it was a ride that swung left to right rapidly).
“Actually you look perfect for tonight,” Liam winked as the ride took off. Suddenly there were butterflies in my stomach. I never got those with him, but Harry seemed to give them to me all of the time.
“What are we doing tonight?” I asked in a shaky voice realizing how wrong the question sounded. “I mean what…” I trialed off as Liam shook his head with a humorous expression. “Let me guess…”
“It’s a secret,” we said together looking into each other’s eyes. Liam leaned in, but the ride started. I pulled away awkwardly laughing.
We stayed at the carnival until six and then we left. I had a new oversize teddy bear and One Direction poster. We had tons of fun even with fans stopping Liam every so often for pictures and things of that nature.
“That was so much fun,” I laugh as the driver, whose name I still don’t know, pulls off. “I think the best part was when that girl won your cut out and her friend was taking her picture with and you snuck into it.”
“Did you see her face when realized? I thought I sent her into shock.” Liam laughed as well. “The fans didn’t bother you did they? Sometimes they don’t know when to walk away.” I calmed down my laughing so that I was able to answer him.
“If I was in their shoes I probably would have done it too.” I shrugged with a thoughtful expression. “Actually I wouldn’t have, but Megan would’ve and she would’ve pulled me along.” Liam chuckles. His chuckle is so attractive. More attractive than… STOP COMPARING THEM BREA! I mentally yell at myself subtly shaking my head.
“Are you okay?” Liam questioned sounding concerned.
“Have you ever had your thoughts get overwhelming?” he nods and I continue on my rant. “I’m usually not the type to over think things. Heck I miss most things until someone points them out to me. But then my thoughts go crazy, you know?” I turned to face Liam and realize he’s staring at me intently. “I’m sorry. I rant sometimes.”
“We all do.” He assured me. Oh my gosh that accent. I never noticed how attractive it is. When I was younger I used to say I wanted to marry a man with an accent like my dad’s.
Liam cleared his throat, “This bit won’t be as exciting as the carnival. I doubt there will be any fans to nearly kill.”
I scoffed, “Nearly kill? One girl went down and I don’t remember her getting up.” As Liam laughed at my joke my cell phone vibrated in my small black purse. Seeing as how we were still driving I decided to check it. I had two missed calls, five text messages, and three Twitter mentions. The calls were from Megan and my mom. Two of the messages were from Megan, one from my mom, one from Eleanor, and two from Harry. Megan: How long are you going to be out?
Megan: Eleanor wants to meet up for dinner.
Mom: Where are you?
Eleanor: Can you do dinner tonight at seven?
Harry: I’m bored :(
Harry: Brea! I sighed trying to decide who to reply to first. Liam was scrolling on his phone as well. Me: (to Megan) I’m not sure what time I’ll be back. See you later.
Me: (to Mom) I’m out with Liam. I told Brandon.
Me: (to Eleanor) How about tomorrow? I’m out with Liam.
Me: (to Harry) Call Louis to chill or something. I’ll talk to you later. “Whoa look at your fingers go,” Liam whistled softly as I typed out the final reply.
“I kind of ignored my phone and suddenly everyone needs my attention.” I rolled my eyes annoyed as I threw the phone back in my purse. If I had kept my phone on me they wouldn’t have even bothered.
“I wish I could ignore my phone, but if I do the lads might become incarcerated.” Liam spoke in a serious tone. “Everyone calls me Daddy Direction, but truth is I misbehave as much as them. Only they don’t know when to stop.” Ironically the vehicle stops moving and the driver opened the door. Liam gets out first reaching back for my hand and I realize we’re at a nice restaurant. It wasn’t exactly fine dining, but I had a feeling my skinny jeans wouldn’t be welcome here. The ginger waitress was waiting in a black business like dress with a polite smile plastered on her face. “Reservation for Liam Payne.” She nodded and led us into the dining room. We walked past all of the tables with people who I assumed were enjoying their meal. Eventually we reached at small table at the back beautifully decorated. Liam pulled out my chair for me with a confident smile.
“Wow,” I breathed as I looked at the set up in awe. “This is great.”
“I didn’t want to do too much, because I remember our conversation about how much you hate cheesy romantic notions.” He informed me. The conversation he spoke of happened a week after the contest. Zayn was trying to figure out what to for Perrie and asked the lads for advice. One of them suggested that he call me and Megan.
“This is not cheesy,” I assured Liam with a smile as the waitress poured the sparkling into the glasses. He must have remembered my whole rant about not feeling old enough for alcohol also. “You pay attention a lot,” I commented.
Liam shrugged, “It’s not hard to pay attention when you fancy a person. Everything in you wants to know more about them.” I smiled widely and leaned slightly forward.
“Say it again,” I spoke softly. Liam looked at me with confusion. “Say the part about fancying someone.” He rolled his eyes amused but repeated himself. “I’ve always dreamed of a guy telling me that he fancies me. It’s so posh.” I used a mock British accent which caused Liam to crack up. The waitress came to the table with our appetizers. When we were done with the appetizers our meals were delivered. We ate with some conversation, laughter, and silence. When we were enjoying dessert Liam got a goofy smile and looked at me with weird eyes.
“What?” I questioned self-consciously worried that there was something on my face. He chuckled shaking his head.
“You’re intriguing Brea.” He spoke softly. “We meet fans every day and after a while all of the faces start to look the same. The voices sound similar. The tears are cried from the same eyes, but there was instantly something about you that made you different. You could easily walk in a room and catch everyone’s attention.” His words made me blush and I looked away with hot cheeks. Liam gripped my chin gently and lifted my head. He looked directly into my eyes. “I truly fancy you Brea Hastings. It would be amazing to call you mine.” He watched me waiting for a response, but I didn’t have one.
“Liam I…” I stopped. What could I say? Liam I like you, but I like Harry too. I was in a real pickle. Here was the sweetest guy ever and he wanted me all for himself, but it wasn’t possible. Liam sighed and sat back in his chair releasing me.
“No need to explain Brea.” He started and I quickly spoke.
“Liam I really like you a lot, but there’s the whole thing with Harry and I just don’t know.” I trailed off as his expression changed.
“You like him too,” he stated. I nodded silently. He sighed heavily, “Take your time to think babe and when you’re ready to talk you know how to reach me.” After that he paid for a meal and we left. Liam walked me to my door and kissed me on the cheek. I looked into his eyes and instantly regretted my words. Something told me that if I took too long to think I would lose Liam forever.
