She's Not Afraid

Chapter Four

Chapter Four “You girls are always out,” my mom said as she placed the salad on the table in the dining room.
Megan grabbed the bread basket, “We’ve made some new friends Mama Kat. You would like them.”
My mother, Katrina, looked at Megan curiously before turning to me. “Who are these new friends?”
“Remember the contest we entered?” I started my explanation and she nodded. “Well we connected well with the guys and have been hanging with them lately.”
Megan laughed, “Mainly because Harry has a huge crush on Brea.”
“He does not,” I said throwing a cloth napkin at her. She ducked and I turned to my mom. “I swear he doesn’t.”
Megan rolled her eyes and placed a hand on my mom’s shoulder, “Mama Kat would I ever steer you wrong?” I shook my head amused as my phone vibrated in my back pocket.
Liam: Hey
“I bet that’s Harry texting you,” Megan chimed in. I shook my head. “Well it must be Liam.”
“Liam? Who’s Liam?” my dad walked into the dining room still in his suit for work. He kissed my mom’s cheek before looking over the table setting.
“Apparently Brea has two celebrities interested in her,” my mom explained as Megan nodded.
My dad looked at me with his brown eyes, “I don’t care if they’re celebrities or not. I want to meet these boys.”
“First off we’re just friends. Second off you are not meeting them. Third, and finally, this conversation is over.” I declared boldly. To my relief my parents let it go. Me: Hey :)
Liam: Do you have plans tomorrow night? There’s going to be a Harry Potter marathon.
Me: Harry Potter! I love Harry Potter.
Liam: Ha ha I’ll see you tomorrow at five. My parents, Megan, and I ate dinner managing to not bring up Harry or Liam again. As Megan and I cleared the table my brother made an appearance. He stopped in the kitchen where we were loading the dishwasher.
“Hey,” Brandon spoke as he opened the refrigerator to grab the leftovers.
“Where have you been?” I asked curiously. I had barely seen him all summer.
Brandon ran a hand through his cropped black hair and chuckled, “One of the girls in my online classes lives close by.” He winked and walked out of the kitchen.
“Hi! Remember me? The invisible friend of your sister who happens to be your ex!” Megan called after him in an annoyed voice.
I hit her with a towel, “You broke up with him.”
She gawked, “He was paying more attention to his friends.” Megan looked at the counter where my phone was and suddenly picked it up. “One new text message from Harry Styles.”
“What?” I looked back at her.
“He wants to know what you’re doing tomorrow,” Megan announced waiting for my reply.
I shrugged, “Harry Potter marathon with Liam.”
She gasped, “I didn’t know about this.” I shrugged innocently at her. “That’s okay, because I was planning a shopping trip with Eleanor.” She pursed her lips, “Actually I haven’t asked her yet, but she’ll say yes. What do you want me to tell Mr. Styles?”
I looked at her with confusion, “Exactly what I just said.”
Megan shook her head, “We have a bold one here ladies and gentlemen.” I wiped down the counters as Megan leaned against the stainless steel refrigerator holding my cell phone. “He wants to know if you want to hang out.”
“It has to be before five, because that’s when I’m going over Liam’s.” I answered vaguely as I finished cleaning the kitchen.
Megan handed me my cell phone, “Harry’s picking you up at one. I’m not invited. Have fun.” She walked out of the kitchen carefree.

The next day I was awake and dressed by eleven. I wore faded capris, orange tank, cream blazer, and matching sandals. My hair was straightened and I wore little eye liner. Harry arrived at exactly one o’clock in skinny jeans, plain t-shirt, and semi-dress shoes. In other words he looked perfect.
“Hey,” he smiled a thousand watts looking up slowly as if he was in a French cologne commercial. “Are you ready to go?”
I smiled back at him, “Yeah, let’s go buddy.” I grabbed his hand playfully swinging our arms back and forth as we walked to his black Range Rover. “What are we doing anyways?” I asked as Harry started the engine.
He winked at me, “You’ll like it.” So it was going to be one of those days, I thought to myself as we pulled away from the house. We had been in the car for about twenty minutes before he parked near a large field of green.
“Where are we?” I asked as I slowly unbuckled my seat belt.
Harry smiled mischievously, “Come and find out.” He got out of the car without another word. I called after him, but he didn’t look back. Curiosity and agitation took over as I got out of the car.
“Harold Edward Styles,” I fussed. “Where the heck…” I came to a stop as I took in the sight in front of me. There was a picnic blanket with a basket set up next to a lake. “Wow,” was all I could say as Harry reached for my hand and helped me down. “Did you do all of this?” I asked amazed as I looked around. It was the perfect sight. My dream date come to life to be exact.
“I thought you would like something calm.” Harry looked at me expectantly. “You do like it, right?” I nodded quickly and smiled up at him. “Good,” he sounded relieved.
“So what’s on the menu?” I rubbed my hands together looking at the picnic basket. Harry chuckled and pulled out two deli sandwiches, two small bottles of Welch’s juice, and two slices of red velvet cake (my favorite). “Wow Styles you put a lot of work into this.”
He shrugged nonchalantly, “It wasn’t hard. I know what you like.” We smiled at each other momentarily before he looked away. “Well let’s get this picnic started.” He laughed at his own lame joke and I shook my head amused.
“You did not!” I gasped hours later as Harry finished his story. We had finished our lunch and were lying on the blanket trading stories.
“I did and I will never live it down,” Harry added. “I think if I go back to that school they will remember.”
“That must be why you didn’t finish your education,” I teased. “And I thought it was because you don’t have a brain in that pretty little head of yours.”
Harry chuckled, “No I have one and it has an aversion to embarrassment.” I laughed as I checked the time on his watch and sighed. “Do you have somewhere to go?”
“Yeah, I’m having a Harry Potter marathon with a friend at five.” I explained sitting up. Harry sat up as well. I looked at him with a smile, “I really enjoyed this.”
He smiled as well, “Me too.” Without noticing it our faces were moving closer and closer together. I was about to speak, but then our lips were touching. It felt good. His lips were soft. It was almost the perfect kiss. That’s probably why I let it go on for as long as it id. When we did break apart, Harry chuckled and shook his head. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be,” I shook my head. His green eyes looked up at me. “That was nice.”
He took in a breath through his teeth, “But now you have to go.” He stood and I pouted thinking about leaving. I was ready to cancel my plans, but the thought of not hanging out with Liam didn’t sit right with me. When Harry offered to help me stand I accepted with a smile. We folded the blanket, stuffed it in the basket, and headed out. He walked me to my door and gave me a quick peck. I walked in with a smile and Megan pounced.
“Why did Harry just kiss you?” she asked automatically.
“Because we had a great time together,” I answered heading to my room to change for the movie marathon.
“Does that mean you’re choosing him?” she asked excitedly.
I opened my closet, “What are you talking about?” Megan sighed and shook her head. “You should through a shirt on over the tank and change into skinny jeans.” She offered her fashion advice before leaving the room with a peculiar expression.
An hour and a half later and I was ready to go in stone washed skinny jeans, a white V-neck over the orange tank, and freshly straightened hair. Liam opened the door five seconds after I rang the bell. He wore a plaid button down with a white t-shirt and jeans.
“Hey,” I smiled as he stepped aside to let me in.
Hey,” he smiled at me leading the way to the living room. I sat on the couch. “I’ll be right back.” I nodded as he left pulling out my cell phone. Megan had sent me a link so I clicked on it. Thinking it was some bogus story you can imagine my surprise when a picture and me and Harry kissing at the picnic loaded along with the title 1D Love Triangle. I scrolled down to the story automatically. Here’s a lesson readers, just because your mate tweets about her doesn’t mean she’s off limits. Or at least that must have been the approach Harry Style’s had when he took a mutual friend of his, and band mate Liam Payne, on a picnic date today. As if it wasn’t bad enough that Liam had just tweeted about spending time with said girl, our cameraman caught Harry and the unknown girl kissing by the lake. Well this puts the AWK in awkward. We’ll keep you posted on this developing love triangle. Me: How did they get that picture?
Megan: Maybe you should be careful about where you make-out at.
Me: We weren’t making out!
Megan: It looks like your trying to rip each others clothes off! I didn’t have time to reply because Liam came back with his arms full of snacks. He smiled at me as he set the things down on the table.
“We have popcorn with extra butter, a variety pack of Twizzlers, root bear, and chocolate covered raisins.”
“Oh my gosh all of my favorites,” I hugged Liam excitedly as I tried to mentally decide which snack to go for first. He chuckled and grabbed the remote. The first Harry Potter movie was starting. “Twizzler?” I offered as we leaned back on the comfortable couch.
“Sure,” he smirked and took one. I scooted closer to him and he put his arm around my shoulders. It was nice and comfortable.
We were on the fourth movie when I started to yawn. Liam looked at me curiously.
“Sorry,” I smiled apologetically.
“It’s okay. We can call it a night if you want.” He offered.
I shook my head quickly, “No, no I’m fine really. Just keep me awake at all costs.” When I yawned for the second time I regretted those words. Liam’s idea of keeping me awake was to tickle me.
“Wake up Brea,” he laughed as I squirmed trying to get away but he was stronger. Eventually I managed to scoot to the arm of the couch which only trapped me because he slid closer gripping my waist with one hand and tickling me with the other. “Are you awake now?” he smiled.
“Yes,” I laughed.
Liam tickled me more, “I can’t quite hear you.”
“Yes Liam I’m awake!” I nearly yelled. He stopped tickling me but stayed hovering over me. “That was mean,” I said as I propped myself on my elbows.
He shrugged, “Desperate times typically call for desperate measures.” He looked right into my eyes and I didn’t look away. When I noticed his face moving closer to mine I stayed put. When our lips touched I relaxed despite myself. My head hit the arm of the couch, but we didn’t break the kiss. It was heated as if it had been building for some time. It was as perfect as the one with Harry. Harry! The thought of him had me ready to pull away, but Liam was already doing that. He moved back and shook his head as if he was trying to clear it. “I’m sorry Brea. I don’t know what happened.”
“You do not have to apologize,” I sighed playing with my hair. The clock on the cable box caught my attention. It was after two o’clock in the morning. “I have to go,” I gasped. Liam stood as well and followed me to the door. “I’ll talk to you later,” I said before quickly pecking his lips and running to my car.
“Yeah see you later,” he called after me sounding as confused as I was. What had I gotten myself into? Megan was right, two-fifths of One Direction liked me and what was worse is that I liked them too.
