She's Not Afraid

Introduction

When you win the opportunity to spend a day with your favorite boy band wouldn’t you take it? That’s what I, Brea Hastings, did. With my family being dual citizens in England and the United States and my dad's job being headquartered in London we did a lot of traveling back and forth. All of summer and several weekends were spent in London where his family was while the rest was spent in the States where my mom’s family was.

The summer after my senior year my best friend Megan from the States came with me to London. We entered a contest in a magazine offering one lucky fan and a friend the chance to spend a day with One Direction. How was I supposed to know that my name would get drawn or that we would become good friends with the boys we fangirled over?

Finding out that I had won the contest was exciting. I had developed a crush on Harry Styles the day I sent him a direct message on Twitter and he replied. We had an actual conversation and he called me “friend”. That happened once more afterward and I had fallen head over heels. It was almost pathetic, especially when pictures of him and Taylor Swift starting popping up. I boycotted her music for a week, but it was hard not listening to Red.

Just imagine being in my eighteen year old girl flip-flop shoes. Winning that contest had made my summer and I hadn’t even been out of school a week yet. I didn’t expect to make five new friends let along to capture the heart of not one, but two 1D boys.
