Chapter 51

Harry gripped my hand as we walked up to Zayn’s house later that evening. He tried to convince me to stay in bed with him all day, but I was far too eager to return to the way things were before I began to distance myself from Harry. I want to have a good night with all of our friends and try to enjoy my life while it’s going this great, because Lord knows tomorrow will bring another challenge.

“You know, you have a great ass and I really appreciate it when you were those pants.” Harry chuckled from behind me and I quickly turned around to smack his chest. Perv. “What! Can’t a guy admire the view?” He laughed and jogged a few steps to walk beside me.

“Your ass is quite sexy too.” I teased and slipped my hand into his back pocket before squeezing his backside.

“Thanks babe,” He winked. We walked inside the house and followed the noise of everyone’s laughter downstairs.

Harry pulled my arm so I would stop walking once we got to the top of the stairs leading to the basement. “What are you doing?”

He didn’t answer, but looked at me like he was examining my face. It was strange, but I didn’t say anything. After a few seconds, he cupped my cheeks and planted a soft kiss to my lips. “I’m glad we worked everything out. . . Thank you for today.”

“Me too,” I smiled and leaned up on my toes to kiss him once more. It was uncharacteristic for Harry to do or say something like that. . . or at least it had been. I have been enjoying his more frequent sweet actions and words.

“Okay, enough of that.” He smiled. “Let’s go see what the asshats are up to now.”
We walked hand in hand down the stairs and once we got down there, everyone yelled and cheered. Huh? My first thought was a surprise party, but my birthday’s not until June and Harry’s is in February. Now I’m just confused.

Grace skipped over to me and pulled me into a bone-crushing embrace before stepping away but keeping me at bay with her hands gripping my shoulders. “So. . .?” She grinned and glanced over to Harry, who was talking to Louis, then back at me.

“Everything’s good.” I couldn’t keep the smile off of my face either. “Grace, what is this?” I laughed.

“We’re just glad to see you two back together.” She smiled back and gave me a meaningful hug, this time no bone-crushing.

We walked back over to where everyone was gathered on the couches. Everyone was there, Liam, Danielle, Louis, Eleanor, Zayn, Perrie, Niall, my cousin, and of course Harry.

“Hey guys,” I waved at them all and plopped down on the couch next to Harry. He threw his arm around my shoulder and pulled me as close as possible.

“So you guys are good now?” Louis asked looking between the both of us.
Harry looked down at me and smirked. “Are we?”

“Yep.” I giggled when he kissed the tip of my nose.

“Oh, barf. You guys are adorable.” Perrie made a disgusted face and everyone laughed.

“Well I’m glad, Haz you were a wreck this weekend.” Louis said causing everyone to chuckle. It made my heart sting for a second remember what I had put him through.

“Oh, shut the fuck up asshole.” Harry sneered at his friend.

We all ended up talking for hours even though we had put in a movie to watch. Whenever we all got together, it seemed we always had something to talk about. It was nice though. I also appreciated how well Grace fit in with all of us. In the few days my friends have known her, they’ve already grown to love her. . . especially Niall.

When Harry was talking football with Louis and Liam while Grace and the girls chatted about all of the great malls back in America, I had this weird moment of pure and complete happiness seeing all of our friends together. It’s so odd to think about how much I dreaded moving here now that my life is better than I had ever imagined. Even though these past few months have been nothing shy of crazy, I wouldn’t take back anything. Despite the few moments where everything seemed to be crashing down around me, I don’t regret a thing because it led me to where I am right now, and where I am is great. I finally feel like everything is out in the open with Harry and I, and we can just continue being happy with one another. All of my new friends are perfect, and even though Grace is leaving soon, she’s here. This is the feeling I’ve always searched for; this complete bliss with everything is such a wonderful contrast to what I’ve had to deal with the past month.

“Hey, Me and Niall are gonna go grab dinner. Do you and Harry want to join?” Grace snapped me from my moment and brought me back to Earth. "C’mon, we’ve always wanted to go on a double date.” She smirked and nudged my side.

“Sure,” I smiled.

“So Grace, tell me about your what your cousin was like before she moved here.” Harry smirked at me while leaning back and resting his arm behind me on the back of the booth.

“Oh God, where do I start?” Grace giggled.

“That’s okay, we don’t need to talk about my boring life.” I offered. I really did not want to talk about that. I mean, sure, Harry knows I’ve never really done the whole guy thing and I was even more of a geek back home, but I’m positive Grace has some embarrassing stories up her sleeve.

“How about freshman year?” Harry ignored me and directed his attention to Grace. Just as she began, Harry grabbed my hand under the table and held on. As stupid as it sounds, it actually made me feel better, like whatever she had to say wouldn’t change his feelings towards me.

“Well you probably know our Addie has got to be the nerdiest girl out there. She never came with me to any parties because she always had to study or something.” Grace rolled her eyes while I glowered at her. Bitch. “But all the guys thought she was so hot, and she was completely oblivious to it. I felt bad for them, they would all ask her out on dates but she always turned them down. Like c’mon Ads, who would rather study than go out with the quarterback of our football team?”

“I think it’s cute,” Harry interrupted and nudged my side with his elbow. Ugh, now I’m ‘cute.’

“I did go on dates.” I huffed.

“Yeah, Mike Nelson took you out for coffee. Once.” Grace laughed and I felt me cheeks heat up.

I don’t know why I was getting so embarrassed, I knew everything she was saying was true and I’m very different now. I guess the fact that Harry has been with so many girls makes it weird. We really are polar opposites, but somehow, we make it work.

“Why the hell did you decide Harry would be your first boyfriend?” Niall chuckled an amused laugh.

“That is a great question,” I laughed finally.
Harry’s light mood vanished as he glared at his friend across the table. “Shut the fuck up Niall.”

“I don’t know, Niall.” I began, ignoring Harry this time. “Well probably because he wouldn’t give up until I agreed to hang out with him.” I laughed at the memories I once though were terrible.

“But I think it was because he was so different than everyone I had ever met. He as terrible to me when I first met him, but for some reason I was attracted to him. I guess I just loved how he seemed like such a hard ass, but when we were alone he was so sweet and kind.” I admitted to him.

I turned my body to face him and grabbed his other hand. “I mean the fact that you’re the most attractive guy I’ve ever met helped, but I loved that even though you just scream ‘trouble,’ you somehow managed to make my life the best it’s ever been.”

His smile grew and he leaned forward to kiss me. Just as he grabbed my face and pushed his tongue into my mouth, Grace faked a gagging noise and Niall whistled. Oops.

“I love you, Adelaide.” He whispered into my ear before kissing my cheek and moving back to his original position.

“Ugh, you two are disgustingly cute.” Grace pouted.

The week had gone by entirely too fast. Between showing Grace all around my new home, spending stress-free time with Harry and hanging out with all of our friends, the last seven days seemed like they flew by. It was nice to have a full week of zero arguments, problems, or fights, as well as having my cousin here, but it was time for her to fly back home.

“Grace, you better come back really soon. I loved having you here. . .” I began tearing up while saying my goodbyes at the airport.

“Trust me, I will.” She smiled. “Make sure Niall doesn’t do anything I wouldn’t approve of while I’m gone.”

“I’ll try,” I joke. “Thanks for everything. We’re all gonna miss you.”

“I’ll miss you guys too. Ugh, I’m just so glad to see you happy here. You and Harry are great together.”

“Thanks.” I squeezed her tighter in the embrace. “Call me when you land, okay?”

“Of course.” She pulled back to look at me. “I’m gonna go say bye to Niall,”
I nodded and retreated over to Harry while Niall and Grace stuck each other’s tongue’s down one another’s throat.

“She’ll visit soon,” Harry reassured me as I wiped a tear from my cheek.

“I know, I just got used to having her here. I’ve missed that girl like crazy.”

“I know.” He sighed and held his arm around my waist.

I couldn’t look at Grace and Niall’s emotional goodbye, so I turned my back to them and faced Harry. “Your turn. . . Why me?” I grinned.

“What?” He frowned.

“I told you what made me fall for you, now it’s your turn.” I smiled. I was actually really curious to see what he had to say, and I really needed a distraction from my cousin’s approaching departure.

“I had a thing for you ever since I saw you that night Louis introduced us. You were wearing those leggings that made your ass look immaculate.”

“For real!” I begged for the real answer. I hope to God my butt wasn’t the reason that he loved me.

“Okay, okay,” He laughed. “I don’t really know if it was one particular thing. There’s a whole list really, your intelligence, the fact that nothing was forced between us, we just kind of let it happen. Your beauty, how sweet you are, how kind you are. . . I just liked that you didn’t follow me around after you met me and you didn’t take my shit. You didn’t look at me like I was Harry Styles or like you just wanted to hook up, you looked at me like I was. . . I don’t know, a real person.”

“Well maybe because you are a real person, Harry.” I teased.

He brushed a lock of hair away from my face and locked his eyes with mine. “No, before I met you, the guys were the only ones who treated me like anyone else. You didn’t get all awkward or flirt or flip your hair a billion times. You saw me.”

“I was kind of a bitch to you. . .” I remembered all of the times I gave him the cold shoulder even when I wanted him to keep kissing or teasing me.

“That’s what sealed the deal.” He grinned and leaned down to press his lips against mine.
