Chapter 4

"Morning Addie."

"Morning." I groan as I sit down at the table and droop back in the chair. I got little to no sleep last night, the thought of what Harry had done refused to let me sleep.

"Good news! I got the job at the hospital." My mom beams.

"That's great mom." I'm happy for her, but I can't gather the strength to even fake the enthusiasm.

"Oh and on the way out last night, Harry said he could take you to school again today. Such a nice boy! And he's cute too." She smiles and brings her empty bowl to the sink. I want to gag at her comment. Yes he is cute, but he's a jerk who only wants in my pants.

"Great.."

"Okay, I'll see you later. Love you!"

"Love you too."

Once she's left, my forehead falls to the table and I groan in frustration. I don't want anything to do with Harry, and now I have to drive to school with him. Today will be rough.

As much as I do not want to be alone in a car with Harry, I'd rather not walk in the rain to school, so I'll have to tough it out. When I see him pull into my driveway, I reluctantly walk outside.

When I get in the car, he says nothing and just drives away towards school. I'm partially thankful he isn't humiliating me right now, but I also want some answers.

"Why did you do that last night?" I shyly ask.

"Do what?" He asks and I can see he's trying his best not to smirk.

"You know... Kiss me."

All he does is shrug and continue to drive.

"Do you like me?" I can barely recognize my own voice.

He lets out a chuckle that makes me feel embarrassed for asking. "Don't flatter yourself, Addie."

Oh so now he's calling me Addie?

"Then why'd you do it?" I can't understand this guy.

"I told you, because you're hot." He shrugs again just as we pull up to school.

"Well don't do it again." I snap and slam the car door behind me.

I sigh in relief when I see Max sitting at our lab table. He's the first person I met here who actually seems decent. Well, Louis did, but I haven't seen him since the first day of school.

"Hey Addie." Max smiles as I sit down and begin to take my books out of my bag.

"Hey!" I replied. "What's up?"

"Not much, how is the new school going for you?"

"Im getting much more used to it."

"That's good... Hey, there's this party tomorrow night, if you wanted to come with me, you can."

"Oh um, parties aren't really my thing." An uneasy laugh escapes my mouth.

"That's okay." He smiles politely.

Ugh, now I probably seem lame, but I don't do parties. I hate how everyone feels like they need to drink alcohol to have fun. It's not my type of scene, sloppy teenagers groping and shouting. I cringe just thinking about the one high school party I went to back home.

To my relief, Max drops the subject of the party and we continue working together on our packet the teacher gave us.

"See you around, Addie." Max walks me to stats again. He's really a gentleman.

I was nervous about going to math and the rest of my classes today after what happened with Harry, but he never showed up. Strange. He probably skipped to go make out with that girlfriend, or friend, of his.

"Do you need a ride home?" Someone asks and I have to turn around before I see Harry looking at me.

"It's fine, I'll walk." I don't look at him and continue down the stairs in front of the school.

"Don't be difficult, it's raining." He snaps.

My face must be full of disgust, because all I'm thinking is how he is so moody. He had his tongue down my throat last night, he was rude to me this morning, and now he's trying to control me?

"I'll be fine." I give him a fake smile.

When I turn away from him, he grabs my arm and I'm yanked towards him.

"What the hell is your problem!" I yell. I don't care if I make a scene, this kid is crazy.

"Just take the ride!" He pulls me until we get to his black range rover in the parking lot.

"Why does it matter so much to you?" I fold my arms across my chest and try to make sense of his exhausting personality.

"I just don't understand why you would rather walk home in the rain then get a ride home." He says harshly and begins to drive.

"Seriously? You have no clue why I would have any reservations with getting into a car with you?" I come off much harsher than intended.

"Are you still mad about last night?" He laughs. "Damn, most girls would love for me to do that to them."

What a douche!

"Oh lighten up, have you never kissed a guy before?" The humor is still evident in his voice.

"Yes!" Just not like that...

"Then why is it such a big deal?" He presses.

"Because I don't like you!"

"Ouch." A chuckle leaves his throat.

"Well how do you expect me to? You were an ass to me after you practically raped me!" This boy infuriates me.

"Rape!" He laughs with surprise. "You liked it, don't lie. Before you pushed me away you liked it."

I hadn't noticed we are already at my house.

"No I didn't!" Okay, so maybe I did like it a little, but that was just my body talking. There's no way I could like this poor excuse of a guy. I grab my backpack and open the door to get out. I wouldn't be surprised if steam was blowing out of my ears from my frustration.

"Adelaide!" I'm stopped in my tracks just as I'm about to close the door behind me. "I liked it." He winks when I stop to look at him. And just with that he backs out of the driveway with a smirk on his face, leaving me confused.

Friday

My mom only works at the hospitals Mondays through Thursdays, so I convinced her to bring me to school today. I would just like today to go as quickly as possible so I can get home and forget this week. I'm beyond ready for this weekend.

"So are you sure you don't want to come to that party with me? I can pick you up, and we can leave whenever you want?" Max asks again as we stand outside my math class.

"I think I'll pass." I grin. "But thanks for the invite, Max. I'll see you Monday?"

"Sure." He smiles and lets me get to my class before the bell rings.

"You're not going to the party? What a shame." Harry's voice is full of sarcasm.

"Were you listening to my conversation?"

"Well your boyfriend talks so damn loud I couldn't help it."

"He is not my boyfriend." I tell him for the second time. "You're going to this party?"

"Yep." Of course he is. "Guess you're too lame to go. I bet you're the type of person that does their homework on a Friday." He laughs.

He makes me so angry the way he pushes me. His teasing is relentless, and it makes me so frustrated! One minute he's kissing me, the next he's making fun of me. I swear I have whiplash just from his emotions.

I do my best to ignore him the rest of the period and book it to lunch after the bell rings.

In a bold act of courage, I march up to a table where I find Max sitting by two other guys.

"Hey Max, I'll go to the party with you tonight."

"Great," he looks surprised, and I am too with my sudden actions. "Um, here let me get your number and then you can text me your address so I can pick you up?"

After exchanging numbers, we decide he will pick me up at 8. I don't know if i want to go to show myself or Harry that I'm not lame. I told myself that when I moved here, I would try to become more outgoing, so I guess this is step one.
