Chapter 12

"Addie!" I'm snapped put of my day dream in biology when Alicia comes running up to me during work time.

How is she so energetic? Shouldn't she be crabby and hungover?

"What's up Alicia?"

"So did you have fun last night?" She smiles and moves her eyebrows up and down.

"Yeah." I smile back. It was fun, but I don't want to tell her why. "Did you have fun? How late did you even stay?"

"Only until one. And yes," she smirks and then looks to see if Max is listening. "I think me and Eric have a thing."

"Eric?" I question. I've never heard her talk about this guy.

"I don't know his last name, but he's beautiful."

"Oh god Alicia." I laugh.

"What! He's hot!" She defends herself before the teacher scolds us for being to loud.

"Did you really go to that party with her?" Max whispers to me.

"Yeah, she practically dragged me there." I tell him and he laughs.

"Yeah, she's not one who will take no for an answer... So does that mean you're going to the party on Friday?"

"I didn't know there was one."

"Oh yeah, there is. Harry's having one."

"Cool... Are you going?" I ask.

It sounds much more appealing with the thought of it at Harry's house. Although I have no idea where we stand. I haven't talked to him since last night, but I hope he really is trying to change.

"Nah, probably not. Uh, I was wondering if you wanted to hang out? If you're not going..."

Oh. Max seems nervous, and it's kind of weird.

"Um, I'm not sure if Alicia will make me go.. I'll let you know later this week?"

I feel bad, but honestly, I would much rather hang out with Harry. Especially after last night.

"Yeah, sure." He smiles. I hope he doesn't feel too rejected, he's still a good friend of mine.

"Hey." I smile when I take my seat next to Harry in math. He looks tired and angry, but his expression softens when I greet him.

"Can we talk?" He whispers.

"After class?" I suggest. Mr. Turner will not be happy if we talk during his lesson.

"No, now." His eyes burn into mine.

"Harry, we're in class."

"We need to talk." He says, louder this time. The girl in front of us turns back to shush us, and Harry rolls his eyes.

"Okay, after class." I reiterate.

What does he need to talk about so bad anyway?

He sighs loudly and but keeps quiet for the remainder of the class. Except for that damn pencil of his that he won't quit tapping against his desk.

"Alright, let's go." He pulls my wrist just as the bell rings for lunch.

"Where are we going?" I question him but he remains silent, on a mission to get away from everyone.

"Harry, we have school!" I yell when we get to the parking lot. "I'm not leaving, I can't miss class."

"There's only two classes left, come on." He opens his door and gets in. When I don't get in, he rolls down the window to talk to me.

"What if we get caught!" I can't believe I'm actually considering this.

"We won't, now get in."

I do something I thought I would never do, skip a class. I get into the car and he smirks before pulling out of the lot.

"Why did you leave last night?" He asks, taking me off guard as we drive.

"I had to go home before my parents woke up."

"Oh." He looks confused.

"Why?"

"I was just wondering." He states and then goes silent.

I thought he would take us back to his house, but we end up driving for twenty minutes before stopping at a deserted park.

"I was worried when you weren't there when I woke up." He admits, and I can't hide the butterflies in my stomach.

"Sorry." What else do I say?

"Are you still mad at me? Before you came over... At the party, you were mad at me."

"No. As long as you keep this attitude of yours." I smile and unbuckle.

I climb over the center console of his car and straddle his lap, surprising him. All I know is that I want to kiss him, badly. This new side of him that he is showing me is incredibly attractive. I've definitely gained a lot of confidence with him in the past days.

"What are you doing to me, Adelaide?" He whispers and traces his thumb over my bottom lip.

"I like when you call me Adelaide." I smile before attaching my lips to his neck.

"Yeah? I like when you straddle me in my car." He chuckles before forcing my chin up to look at him.

"Kiss me, Adelaide." He says seductively before pulling my face to his.

The kiss deepens, making the heat in his car rise heavily. I feel him turn off the car before resting his hands on my waist. A burst of courage runs through my body, and I begin grinding my hips against his.

"I never know what to expect with you, Addie." He chuckles against my lips.

"You make me brave." I laugh and bury my face in his neck.

"Where are we anyway?" I remember we are in the middle of no where.

"Some park my dad used to take me to. Come here," he opens the door and lifts me off his lap.

I'm surprised when he takes my hand and we walk down a path.

"Here." He pulls off his sweatshirt and hands it to me. "Sorry, I didn't know it would be this cold."

"Thanks." I say and pull it over my head. His scent fills my nose, and I can't help but close my eyes to enjoy it.

"My dad would always take me here... He would say it was our 'secret spot,' lame I know." He chuckles and sits on a bench.

"Not lame." I tell him and sit down next to him. "This is beautiful."

The view is stunning. We must have driven up a hill, because we seem to be above Holmes Chapel. The bench looks out on the town, the trees are all turned red and orange with fall just around the corner.

"I just like how it's so quiet."

"It's nice." I agree.

We sit in silence, and he must be contemplating something because he looks very focused on a spot in the horizon.

I know I'm thinking. Wondering if this Harry is here to stay. He's completely surprised me with his actions in the last 24 hours. He's sweet, caring and has refrained from teasing me. It's almost too good to be true.

"We should probably get back. It's already five."

"Is it really?" Wow, time has gotten away from me today.

"Yeah." He chuckles.

"I can't believe I actually got you to skip class." He laughs as we drive back home.

"I can't believe I did either.. I'm going to have so much to make up tomorrow."

"You'll live." The sound of his laugh fills the car, making me smile. I love his deep laugh.

"Well, um, thanks for today... And last night." I all of a sudden become shy.

"Sure." He simply replies.

"No really, thanks Harry." I say again and press a kiss to his cheek. "See you at school tomorrow."

I get out of his car and run inside. I've decided I'm going to tell my parents I was studying with Alicia and I forgot to tell them.

"Hey dad!" I'm in a great mood I guess.

"Where were you?" He asks, he's not mad, just curious.

"Sorry, I was studying with Alicia. We have a biology test tomorrow. Where's mom?"

"She's working the night shift at the hospital. Addie, the school called." My dad says and I immediately know what they called about.

"Did they?" I play dumb.

"Why weren't you in your last two classes?" He folds his arms and looks at me sternly. Oh gosh.

"Um.."

"Addie, I thought your mom was just stressed out last night, but she was absolutely right. I don't know if you're just adjusting to living in a new place, but I don't even know my daughter anymore. I'm disappointed that you skipped class, and you need to promise it won't happen again."

"I'm sorry dad, I-"

"Just don't do it again. I'm not even going to ask you why you did it, because there's no point. If this happens again, I'll let your mother deal with you."

"You're not telling mom?" I'm confused.

"No, she's been stressed lately, and I don't want her to worry. This will be between us if you promise it won't happen again."

"I promise. Thanks dad." I hug him tight and go upstairs to do my homework.

I have no idea why he's so accepting, but I'll take it. This is why I prefer my dad yelling at me over my mom.

When I get into my room, I pull out my biology book and actually study for our test tomorrow. I'm not worried about it though, I know everything there is to know about natural selection.

Just when I get done making notecards to study, my phone vibrates.

Come over

I have no idea who is texting me. I want to say it's Harry, but I never gave him my number.

To: unknown number
Who is this?

From: unknown number
I had fun today, Adelaide.

Yep, it's Harry. And I can't deny the growing butterflies in my stomach. I put his number in my contacts before texting him back.

To: Harry Styles
Me too :)

Ew, a smiley face, really Addie?

From: Harry Styles
come over. I want to return the favor from last night. ;)

The pit in my stomach grows and I feel like an idiot smiling to myself.

To: Harry Styles
I don't think I can... My dad found out about me skipping class
.

From: Harry Styles
Is he mad?

To: Harry Styles
No but he said he was disappointed and agrees with my mom about me being different...

From: Harry Styles
Are you okay?

His text makes my heart beat like crazy. His sympathy, even over text, comforts me like no other.

To: Harry Styles
Yeah... But I don't want to make him more angry. I'll see you to school tomorrow?

As much as I want to take him up on his offer, I don't want to take advantage of my father's forgiveness. I really want to show him I'm still me, and I'm not changing.

From: Harry Styles
Okay. Night Addie.

To: Harry Styles
Good night Harry.
