Too Much

Chapter 1

"Addie, are you serious! We are leaving in less than an hour, why don't you have your room packed up?"

"I'll be ready." I groan and shut my laptop before my mother leaves my bedroom and closes the door again.

We're moving today, and I really don't want to. I grew up here, and I do not want to leave. Yeah sure, I don't have very many friends here in Wisconsin, but how the hell am I supposed to just start all over in a new place when I'm already seventeen?

"Addie, twenty minutes!" My dad's deep voice is heard from downstairs. Our house is a modest size, so it's not that hard to hear him.

I sigh heavily and drag my feet around my room to finish packing. I can't help but feel somber as I tuck my belongings away into various suitcases and bags. I'm comfortable here. This is the house I grew up in, and where I've become accustomed to. I like all of my teachers at school and I was already accepted into the university of Wisconsin on full scholarship, but now that we have to move, I know it's not an option anymore. I don't know if I'll even be able to attend college anymore, without that full scholarship, there's no way my parents or I can afford it.

I sigh once again and take a last look at my small, but cozy bedroom. All that remains is a bed frame and the large dresser that the movers will be collecting later today.

"Goodbye." I whisper and roll my suitcase on the hard wood floor out to the hallway and down the steps.

"Are you ready?" My mother asks frantically. She's still trying to pack and do another hundred different things at once.

I roll my eyes when she's not looking. Her unorganized lifestyle makes me cringe. I hate not being prepared and not having everything together... I obviously didn't get that trait from my mother.

"Yep." I say, popping the 'p.'

I don't care how rude I am. I want my parents to know that I am not happy with this. Even if it is beyond their control, I do not want to move. It's not fair.

"Addie, quit it with the attitude." My father enters the kitchen and snaps at me.

"Do we really have to go? Or can't I just stay here with grandma?"

"Absolutely not! We are not leaving you half way across the world, Addie." Mom raises her voice at me. "And yes, you know we have to go. This is a good opportunity for your father, and we can't afford to stay here. Aren't you excited to move to England? You've always wanted to go there."

"Yeah mom, to visit. Not to live there, when I know absolutely no one. I'm going to stick out like a sore thumb."

"Margaret, the cabs here!" I can hear my father yell to my mom from the front room.

"Okay, grab your bags, Addie. Are you sure you have everything?" My mom turns to me and asks.

"Yeah."

I follow her out to the yellow van parked outside by the curb. I take one last look at the house I grew up in, the house that holds all of my childhood memories.

"Let's go!" I'm snapped out of my nostalgic thoughts as my dad calls me into the cab.

As soon as I get to the back seat, I plug in my earbuds to my phone and drown the terrible music the cab driver is playing with my own. Adele's calm voice soothes me as we drive to the airport. England won't be so bad right? I mean, Adele is from there, and I love her music. I inwardly laugh at myself as I rest my head against the window. I'm so not ready for this, starting brand new in a place where I know nothing about. It's scary. Especially when I had everything planned out before my parents decided to drop the bomb on me, telling me my dad got a job in some random town called Holmes Chapel.

I remain silent and keep an earbud in as I follow my parents through the busy airport. It's nearing the end of August, so everyone is coming back from their summer vacations, all bronzed and beautiful. I wish this was just a vacation.

"Passport and ticket, please." A bored, grumpy worker holds out her hand and waits for me to give her my things.

"Gate 17." She tells me and shoos me to the nearest security line. For a moment I'm separated from my parents as I move through security and check my bags.

"Flight doesn't board until 4, do you want to grab something to eat?" My dad asks me as we find a seat at our gate.

"No, I'm good." I tell him and stick my earbuds back in. I welcome the loud music ringing in my ears as I try to wrap my head around how much my life is going to change.

Nothing will change, I repeat in my mind. I'm still going to focus all of my attention on school, and hopefully find a good college nearby that I can get a scholarship to. I've made it seventeen years with very few friends, so I think I can manage going to a new school. Although I am worried about being the only one with an American accent. That will be weird.

"Here, I thought you might want a coffee, it's a long flight, Addie." My father smiles and hands me a cup with the Caribou logo on it. That's another thing I'll miss, Caribou Coffee, midwest's finest. I'll be lucky if they even have a Starbucks in this unheard of town were moving to.

I appreciate my dad's patience with me. I haven't been the easiest daughter to deal with over the last few weeks since they told me the plan to move. Okay, I haven't been easy at all, I've been very difficult and rather stubborn, but my dad stays calm, and bares with me. He's my rock. I'd definitely call myself a daddy's girl. My mom on the other hand has little tolerance for my attitude, and makes sure I know that. I know she cares about me, but she doesn't show it as much as I need her to.

About an hour later, we finally board the plane and begin the journey to our new home. Even though we have a layover in New York, the flight is long and exhausting. And I can already start to feel the effects of the jet lag.

It's almost five in the afternoon when we arrive at the Heathrow Airport in London, but we still have to drive another couple of hours to get to our new house in Cheshire. So far, I've heard a lot of British accents, and more tea drinkers than coffee. It's going to take a lot of getting used to here.

"Addie, sweetie we're here." I'm softly shaken awake by my dad. My eyes take a minute to get used to the natural light, even though it's pretty cloudy today.

I focus outside my window and we are driving slowly through a quaint neighborhood, decent sized homes, all lined up in a perfect row. When we get towards the end of the road, there's only a few houses on either side, and I assume the one we are pulling up to is ours.

"Woah." I gasp. It's not huge, but it's much larger than our home back in Wisconsin.

"The furniture will be here tomorrow, but let's unpack as much as we can." My mother states as my father parks the car in the driveway.

I leave my bags in the cars and go into the house to explore. I walk into a main room that connects to the kitchen, which is a decent size. A bathroom is attached and there's a porch off the back of the house. I wander upstairs and I see three bedrooms and a bathroom. All of the rooms seem to be the same size, so I leave the one with the bathroom connected to it for my parents and drop my backpack in the one towards the back of the hall. There's a big window in my new room facing the house next to us, and it lets in a good amount of sunlight. It's not as bad as I though.

"Addie! Come help!" I groan when my mom calls me downstairs.

"Did you pick a room?"

"Yeah," I reply and continue putting away the various dishes in each cabinet.

"I think I'm gonna go upstairs." I say upon completion of the unpacking.

"Get some rest, sweetie." My dad smiles and walks over to hug me. "Thank you for cooperating, I know this isn't the most ideal situation." He says into my ear before kissing me cheek.

"Goodnight." I try my best to smile before hugging my mother.

I drag my feet upstairs and unpack as much of my clothes as I can into the closet. Now I'm just nervous to start school in a couple of days. I know absolutely no one and what if they're way ahead in curriculum and I can't keep up? Thankfully the students here are still on summer vacation so I'm not transferring in the middle of the school year, but it will still be nerve wracking.

Just as I lay down on the bed that was left from the previous owners, I realize I left my pillow and blanket in the car.

I groan and remove myself from the much too welcoming mattress. This day has been so long and tiring, the last thing I want to do is go all the way back to the car.

"I forgot my pillow in the car." I answer my parents questioning faces as I drag my feet through the kitchen so they don't have to ask. They nod and I proceed.

Great, when I make it outside, there's a group if seven or eight people, loud as all hell, across the street. They look to be my age or so, but I hope they don't see me. I am not in any mood to be making new friends, or do I even need to make new friends.

I quietly open the door to our new vehicle, a 2009 Ford. I'm still trying to get used to the fact that the driver isn't in the left side anymore.

"Hey!" Shit. I hear a male British voice call out, and I know they see me.

"Hey, you're the new neighbor?" I turn around to see a tall brown headed boy, with a big grin on his face.

"Yep." I give him a fake smile.

"Ah, not from England?"

"America.. Wisconsin." I tell him and shut the door after grabbing the left pillow from the back seat.

"Oh I see, Harry over there loves the Packers." He laughs and the blonde kid behind him chuckles along. "Harry come meet our new neighbor!" He yells back at the rest of the group.

Great, so these rowdy teenagers are my neighbors? Woo.

A tall, curly headed boy practically runs over to where the two boys, who's names I have yet to learn, and I are standing on my driveway.

"Hey, I'm Harry." He smiles at me.

"Oh shit, I haven't even introduced myself. I'm Louis!" The brown headed one says. "This is Niall, and over there is Liam and Zayn with his girlfriend Perrie, and my girlfriend Eleanor." He flashes me a cheeky grin, and I smile back.

"I'm Addie." I say, wishing to not further this conversation.

"Well it's nice to meet you. Harry lives in the house next to you," he points at the one I can see from my bedroom window. "And I live right across from you two. The rest of them live way down the street."

"Cool." I start to turn on my heel to head back into the house.

"We'll see you around." He smiles and I nod. They all turn around and walk back to the house I think Louis said was his.

I can tell they're talking about me when I see the girls look back at me and they all giggle. Wonderful, I am going to be the joke of this town. It's fine though, I just need to focus on this last year of school and get to university or whatever they call college here.

I mean Louis seemed nice and the blonde one was funny, but the rest seemed much out of my league. Not going to lie though, Harry was very attractive. Maybe I'll see him around the neighborhood more once I get settled in, but for now, I need to sleep and get used to the time difference here.

I slowly but surely make it back to my room and soon drift off into a much needed slumber, dreaming of being back in Wisconsin.
