Crossing Paths
Chapter 5
Lily´s POV:
In the evening I had to work at the diner in the city center. My shift started at 6am and would at least last for four hours. It wasn`t really full in there, it was only crowded at Fridays and at the weekend, so I only had to clean up some tables first.
I enjoyed working there, I often met new and interesting people which where just passing through our city.
Also I didn`t had any problems with guys freaking out and being drunk because I knew how to protect myself. My mom hated me to go there but she knew that I would rather work there the whole day than asking for money.
I didn`t wanted to own anybody anything and I didn`t wanted to be dependent on anyone. Fortunately Emma was there, she was the only one I had besides of my mom and she was the one I could talk to when I had a problem. Even when we didn`t had anything in common she always would listen to me I realized. After I lost my friends, I guess she is the only one now I can talk to.
We worked until nine o`clock and because there weren`t much guests left we were allowed to go way earlier than I thought. Emma asked me if I wanted to a cafe to just sit down and talk a bit. So I nodded because I really needed someone to talk and even when we weren`t so close I knew that I could trust her and that was the reason why I decided to go. After finding spare places we ordered some coffee.
“ Hey what`s up, how is your new school?” I told her about this weird behavior of Zayn and Harry.
“Maybe they don`t like me or this girl told them to get away from me, that is the only conceivable explanation of their acting.”
Emma seemed like having to think about this for a moment. “But why should this girl have told them to stay away from you, besides if they would know you they would actually like you.”
I wasn`t really sure of it. My old friends were happy without me, so why should any guys which were surrounded by so beautiful girls like Juliet, which must live with rich parents or at least with enough money to have a happy life, would have wanted to deal with me. We didn´t went on talking about this, instead we chatted about work and Emma`s life. As it was almost ten we both left and went home.
While laying in my bed I thought about how this should go on. I decided that I should ask them after their problem they obviously had, when they would go one acting like this. But then I thought about Zayn smiling at me, did I really wanted to destroy the only chance I had to be with this guy because of a big misunderstanding.
I wasn`t sure, maybe it was better, even when I knew we could have a great time and I really liked him the first moment I saw him, I wasn`t good enough for him, I didn`t had anything to offer. So why confronting him, when I wasn`t going after him. Finally I thought of just staying away from him, but this could be difficult if I had to see him every day in school.
