Fake It

"What do you want, Mother?" I ask. I pulled her all the way to my room just to see what she wanted. Obviously, she didn't just come because she was invited. I distinctly remember her being invited to my engagement party and did she come? No. It's not as if I'm pissed or anything about her not coming to my engaged ment party, but would it have hurt?

"Can't a mother just come to say 'hello' to her daughter?" She retorts.

"Yes. A mother with no secret agenda can sure as hell just come to say 'hello', but you are not one of those mothers."

"Who said I had some ridiculous secret agenda. That's absurd."

"Is it really."

I was right, as usual. She sat me down, on the basis that she had huge news to inform me of. And, it was. Apparently there was rumor going around the Isabel, my own sister, was plotting to find a loophole in my wedding contract to be able marry Zayn in my place. I was disturbed to say the least. I was used to being manipulated by my mother, but this is my sister, my twin. I felt nauseas.

"Are you sure you didn't just miss hear them."

"Layne Delilah Avery, are you trying to imply that I'm getting old?"
"Yes, ma'am, I am." I tell her, not missing a beat.

She flares her nostrils as gives me a look. I only meant to stun her, I didn't expect her to get this mad. She continues, saying, "Just because you're knocking on 23 doesn't mean you have the right-"

"Mother! The rumor!" I interrupt.
"I told you already-"

"Then if that is all, leave!" I yell, stomping out of the room, "I need to think about this without all of your rambling."

"Are you sure?" Zayn asks.

"I guess so. I just can't believe it." I tell him, siting down on the floor. We're the kitchen as I tell him about the recent series of events that have transpired. He's in as much disbelief as myself. It's not like I care about marrying him or anything... It's just surprising that Isabel didn't tell me. I could have helped her.

"I'll look into it. Don't worry about it."

"I'm not worried; I just feel like she should have said something, if this is how she felt." I say.

"Well, you and your sister do have that in common."

"Shut up." I tell him, getting up to take my leave.

"Where are you going?" He asks.


"Anastasia doesn't like it when people are cluttering the kitchen. I don't want to have this conversation with her later, and anyway, I have to call Gracelynn."

"Tell her I said 'hi.'" He yells after as I walk out.

"Will do!"

"Layne, what are you gonna do." She asks.

"I'm going to let it run it's course." I say, pacing in the room.

"Aren't you gonna fight for your fiance?"

"Why would I do that? I didn't sign up for this shit." I tell her.

"But I thought you liked Zayn. You never shut up about him."

"It's only cause he's always around me. He's like a leech." I retort.

"From the way you talking about him, he sounds like a really cuddly leech."
I sigh, saying, "Be that as it may, I'm still not going to worry about it. Isabel never goes along with anything."
"All I'm trying to say is that, it doesn't really sound like you want to not be engaged to Zayn. It kinda sounds like you like him. Just think about it, okay?"

"Sure, go take a nap or something." I say, rushing her.

"Whatever, bye."
"Bye."
