Fix His Collar

Chapter One

I sat still on my couch, staring blankly at the wall ahead of me. My Dad wasn't home yet, and I was bored. Why aren't you watching tv? my subconscious threw at me. I rolled my eyes at myself and stood up, walking upstairs and to my bedroom. "Because tv ruins your mind," I whispered, just to myself. Then go outside, she replied, rolling her eyes right back at me. "I'm talking to myself, wow."

Maybe I had a point though. I was always one to go outside. Sighing, I pulled myself up, off my bed and walked over to my closet. "I'll just go for a jog." So I grabbed my bright pink half top, and some grey Nike shorts. I walked to the bathroom, changing quickly and throwing my brown hair up into a ponytail lazily.

I checked my reflection. Those boring grey eyes stared at me, dully looking at my own face. My high cheekbones. My nose stud. My pale pink lips. The scar just above my right eyebrow, it was small, but noticeable. Don't even ask how I got it.

Slowly I reached up and held up my palm in front of the mirror. There it was. My birthmark. It looked like an animal print, but it always has. I like it, my friends do. I shrugged dropping my hand back down by my side and checking my reflection one last time.

Skipping down the stairs, yes that's possible, and toward the door. I slipped into my grey and pink Nike shoes and slipped out the door. Leaving a small note for my Dad just telling him I was going for a jog. I also grabbed my iPod and headphones. Sticking one in each ear and going back and forth between listening to Avril Lavigne and Maroon 5.

The night was coming quickly, the sun switching positions with the moon just as I reached the edge of the woods. I jogged threw the trees, and around some bushes, going further inside the trails. I loved this place. It was always calming.

My song suddenly changed to All Around Me by Flyleaf and I gently hummed along, continuing my path. The only lighting basically being my iPod and the setting sun as more trees crowded around me. I jumped as something rustled in the bushes. Taking a step back, I raised my iPod slightly higher, pointing it at where the noise came from.

A few seconds later a small bunny jumped through and I let out a sigh of relief. "God.." I mumbled, turning to go another way, when the bushes rustled again. When I turned back it was a deer, female, her two young following behind her as they came at me. I fell to the ground, the mom jumping over me, and the young going around me. I switched positions, laying on my stomach and watched them. What're they running from? I decided just to ignore it and sat up, brushing some of the leaves from my hair. "Well now I'll definitely need a shower when I get home." I sighed and stood up, brushing off my legs.

That's when I heard it, a stick breaking and a large crack, like a tree breaking. My head shot up, facing the direction it'd came from. "Hello?" I called out, turning in a small circle before stopping and looking in the same direction. "Is anyone there? This isn't funny." Still no response. But another stick broke. "I'll call the police." My voice was shaking, but I'm glad it didn't break.

I saw a patch of dark brown fur, "Oh God, please no," I hastily moved toward a tree and held my front to it, peeking out from behind it.

I bit down on my tongue, watching as the giant wolf in front of me trotted around in the leaves, sniffing lightly at the ground, walking in a clear circle. Suddenly, it's head came up quickly, it's ears perked. I jumped slightly, clutching the tree in front of me even tighter, hiding my body deeper into it. I took in large breath, holding it and waiting. Closing my eyes briefly and looking back out after a few seconds. The wolf was gone. A sigh of relief left my lips as I turned around. Only to bump into a hard chest. Slowly I stumbled back, hitting the tree and gaping at the guy in front of me. His deep bright green eyes bore into my pale grey ones as he smirked, looking me up and down. It suddenly hit me what I was wearing. But that wasn't the worst part. He was only in shorts. And they were low hanging on his hips. I was even pretty sure he wasn't wearing any boxers.

"Hi.." I whispered, taking a deep breath and shoving myself farther into the tree.

A smirk appeared on his light pink lips. "Hey." His voice was deep, raspy, and he spoke slowly. "What's your name, beautiful?" I noticed he had a british accent. Why was he even in Boca, Florida then?

Pushing those thoughts away, I gulped, "I'm.. I'm Riley.." I attempted lying, biting down on my tongue again. Which probably gave it away because he just crossed his arms over his finely toned chest and laughed.

His eyes held my gaze as he took a step closer to me, his minty breath fanning over my face, "Oh but babe, that's not your name. C'mon, I don't bite sweetheart," he smiled again, "or maybe I do."

I gulped, pressing my back even more against the tree, I could feel the bark poking into my delicate skin as I did so, "It's Alice.." I whispered, turning my head away from him, trying to control my breathing.

But the mystery guy grabbed my chin tightly in his strangely long fingers, turning my head sharply so he could catch my eyes once again. "Alice.. a beautiful name, for an even more beautiful girl," he placed a gentle kiss on my cheek, causing both to heat up as I tried to tear my gaze from his. Failing miserably at my attempt to do it.

"You're going to have to come with me, love."
