Challenges In Our Marriage

Chapter 16

Mel POV

It was two day after the whole Harry and James drama.Even do Harry act as if he trusted James, but he doesn’t trust anyone that makes a move on his wife. Thing between James and Mel become clearer and they are both good friends now. It was their last day dealing with the boy case and after days of investigating and questioning, the judge decided to give the boy years of community service because he was not guilty of killing his friend. So after the case everyone went out for dinner at a nice restaurant to celebrate their victory.

It was well after nine when they finally were riding the elevator back to their floor at the hotel. Mel leaned back against the wall and sighed. “I didn’t think they’d ever stop asking questions. I mean, in every scenario that I played out in my mind, none of them went like this.”

James faced her as he leaned against the opposite wall. “I know what you mean. I think I sort of zoned out there after a while.” He scrubbed a weary hand over his face and let his head fall back. “Want to order some real food for us because that dinner meal was unpleasant.”

“Oh, I know, right? I thought that Chicago was known for its good food! But honestly, I want to kick off these shoes and crawl into bed.” Mel stopped and considered what she was saying. “Okay, maybe I have the energy for some ice cream but nothing else.”
James chuckled. “I may order a pizza.”
“Pizza? I could stay awake for some pizza.”

“Atta girl,” he said, still laughing. They arrived at their floor and headed for their room. “Why don’t you go and change and I’ll call you when the pizza gets here.”
“Bless you,” Mel said as she practically fell through her door. Within minutes she had stripped out of her business attire that was uncomfortable after such a long day and changed into a pair of yoga pants and t-shirt. She pulled the clip from her hair and massaged her scalp.

Staring at her reflection in the mirror, Mel considered what else she could do with her hair. Running her fingers through her hair she felt much better. It was almost 10pm when James knocked on the door.
“Pizza delivery!”
Mel opened the door to him and smiled. “Do you want to eat in here or are you already set up in your room?”

James POV

James couldn’t speak. For a moment he could only stare. The woman who he had come to know for years was gone and replaced by someone completely different. With her hair loose James realised just how long it was. It was wavy and thick and wonderful and he found himself itching to reach out and touch it see if it was as soft as it looked.

He drags his attention to her expressive brown eyes, eyes that were staring curiously at him right now.
“Oh right pizza. I’ve got everything set up inside,” he said gruffly and then turned back toward his room. “I had them send up varieties of drink because I wasn’t sure about what you want.”
“Just pizza with coke would be fine.”
“A girl after my own heart,” he said and then realised how awkward that was. “What I mean is...”

Mel laughed. “Its okay, James. I know what you meant.” She sat down and helped herself to a slice of the deep dish pizza and groaned with delight with the first bite. “Now that is a good food,” she said with a sigh.
James held his own groan. With her new look and the near orgasmic sounds she was making while eating, he was starting to sweat.

She was a married woman, someone that he promised himself that he would get over is stupid crush but now seeing this part of her that her husband see just bring back those feelings.
He should not be noticing all of these things about her and yet he couldn’t seem to stop himself.

“Aren’t you going to have any?” she finally asked.
“What? Oh, yeah, sorry. I guess my mind is still on the bizarre case at court today.”
“Please, no more talk about the case it over,” she pleaded. “I think I’d like to just forget that today and start getting ready to leave.
“I couldn’t agree more,” he mumbled.

James couldn’t focus. He wanted Mel to finish her pizza and go to her room. His mind was spinning in a dozen different directions and none of which were work related- and he needed to get his thoughts back on track. Knowing he was being rude, James grabbed up another slice and stalked over to the other side of the room and sat down on his laptop and did his best to ignore Mel. Maybe she’d get the hint and leave.

Within minutes she did. With a quiet ‘good night’, she closed the door between their rooms and James heard the lock go into place. That’s when he let himself breathe again.

Mel POV

Mel could tell that something was bordering James but she didn’t dwell on it that much as she dialled their home number, hoping to talk with her kids and husband but it was Lucy who picked up the phone.

Lucy and Mel talked for a while and Lucy told her that her husband had just left to drop the kids off at school. Mel was disappointed because during her stay in Chicago and San Diego she had only had one conversation with her children and it was Wednesday after while they were going for their sport training, Aria for tennis and Eddie for soccer.

She is happy that the kids are bonding with Harry while she is absent but she felt like her kids are forgetting about her.She and Lucy plan on Aria’s tenth birthday party for a while before she hung up. Mel cried herself to sleep that night because every time she called her kids are not around to talk to or to hear their voices and it pain her that she is missing out on their growing up.

Harry POV

It was in the morning, watching his kids eat their breakfast before heading off to school. For the past days Harry and the kids had bonded more than they had because majority of his time were spent in the office solving problem and making money while his relationship with his children was drifting away.

And over the past days that bond has being growing stronger. The day after her returned from Chicago, he came home and found Eddie sleeping on their bed holding on to their family photo that was on the bedside table. Seeing that image of his son holding on to their family photo made his realised how much his work hours had affected his relationship with Eddie.

During those days, Harry and the kids did numerous of activities. It was weird when he told Aria to one of her dancing lesson and all the mom’s were all over him, which was uncomfortable for him but his daughter Aria just teased him about it. More of their afterschool activities Aria had to help his figure out and now he realised whenever he called Rose and she is always busy or tired during the night.

During their drive, everyone shared what their activity at school would be with him.
“So Aria, what do you want for your birthday?” he asked. It was Aria’s birthday in three days and Rose would be at home tonight. But Harry wants to know what type of gift his daughter and first child wanted for her birthday.

“Dad, I just want a quite party just with the family and friends,” she said. Harry was shocked that his daughter didn’t ask for anything but a party that involves all the families and friends to share her tenth birthday.

“Than a party with families and friends is what you’re going to have,” he said with a smiled. “But want else do you want?”
“I just missed having my daddy to home on the weekend, when he takes me to the park and we would have good conversation. But I understand that my daddy is busy with work and now mum.”

Harry was taken aback by Aria’s words, sensing the pain from her voice made his feel like an awful parent, and he couldn’t look at his daughter without feeling guilty for letting her and Eddie experiencing his previous pain. Now with his daughter words, all the memories of being abandon by both parents during his childhood came rush back. He was always scared about being a good and hand-on dad and now he felt like his own dad who abandoned him when he needed a dad figure in his life.

As she pulled up in front of Aria’s school, she looked over toward his and smiled. “Dad, you’re busy and I understand and I love that every night you come into my room and gave me a goodnight kiss. I love you dad and see you after school,” she said and gave his a kiss before walking out of the car and into the school yard.
