Challenges In Our Marriage
Chapter 15
Mel POV
Arriving at the party was nerve breaking for Mel because it was her first time attending to a party with her husband. The people and the media were whisper about his absent- that Mel had expected- but none would show anything but act polite toward her.
Mel was getting uncomfortable with the stares and glances that the guests have been giving her so she decided to use the ladies restroom for a while. She heard the door opened and decided to hide in one of the toilets.
Lady 1:“Did you see Melrose Styles attending a party without her husband.”
Lady 2:“But she is here with a friend, besides her husband is always busy because the invitation was sent out to Harry but he did RSVP.”
Lady 1:“Well looks like their marriage is having problem since Jacqueline come back to town.”
Lady2: “Jacqueline cheater on Harry and left and now he is now married with two kids. Plus Harry still is in love with his wife.”
Lady 1: “If Harry loves his wife so much, why is she in the hand of another man and that man is no other then ‘James Windsor’.”
Lady 2: “I know for sure that Harry would make an entranced.”
Then Mel heard the bathroom door opened and shut again, she waited for a minutes before heading out. Mel was wondering if she had betrayed her marriage by being at an event without Harry. She walked toward her table drinking martini, when James father asked her to dance. She kindly accepts the offer as they moved to the dancing floor.
Harry POV
Landing on Chicago airport all dressed in his tux, he couldn’t help but wonder what would Rose reaction been. He just needed to mark his territory, because Rose is his wife and James needs to respect that.
He walked towards Neil, who was holding the car door as he walked in and shut the door. Driving through Chicago city, Harry was scared but he wasn’t sure why. Maybe he was scared about Rose reaction or what he would see. But there is only one way to fine out as the car came to stop in front of the hotel. He walked into the hotel and he could hear the sound of the classic orchestra playing.
James POV
Watching his father dancing with Mel made his happy but worried at the same time. He saw Mel walking out toward the fountain and followed her.
“Are you okay,” he asked.
“Oh, Hello James, I am just a little cold that all,” she said.
James quickly pulled out his jacket and placed it around Mel and he was rewarded with a smile.
“Well I would leave you out here to clear you thoughts. Just call if you need anything,” he said and gave Mel a kiss on her cheek before leaving.
Harry POV
Harry caught Mel at the far end of the room, talking with James and the couple standing beside her. Mel wore a stunning ivory silk evening gown that dipped to the small of her back but she was wearing a man Jacket. She was wearing an emerald pendant around her neck with matching earrings to adorn her ears. The four inch heels peeked out from her thigh. His wife was magnificent. Poised with elegance that couldn’t be taught and beauty that wasn’t skin deep, Harry felt truly proud to call her his wife.
He didn’t realise that James had seen him, as he was walking toward his and stood by his side.
“Funny how we are both protective over her right,” he said.
“I don’t suggest talking to you about protecting my wife or recalled us being friends,” he said gnashing his teeth.
“It is more than that. I admit that once upon a time I wanted you wife, but now it different.” James’s gaze cut away to Mel as she turned around and stopped dead in her track.
“Looks like you have some explaining to do,” said James as he walked away with his drinks.Harry walked toward Rose, with a smile on his lips. Harry set down his glass and slid an arm around her waist.
“I’m guessing that you’re wearing the wrong dress jacket,” he said. It took seconds before Harry saw the tears fell down his wife’s cheek. He pulled her into a hug whispering sweet words to her as he tried to calm her down.
“It was cold outside and James gave me his jacket,” she said. Although James didn’t threaten Harry in the least, Harry didn’t like seeing her eyes light up when they looked at James. Harry carefully removed the jacket off and gave it to the nearest servers.
“How about we move into the ballroom and dance seems like everyone is expecting a scene from us.”
The thought of Rose pressing close to him motivated his feet as they moved toward the ballroom.
“Have I told you how lovely you are tonight?” Harry whispered close to her ear.
“No, but thank you. You clean up well yourself.”
Enjoying her compliment, Harry smiled as they entered the ballroom. The moment the music began, he led Rose to the centre of the room and swung her into his arms. Her hands lifted to his shoulders as they swayed to the music. Mel’s cheeks blossomed with colour. “People are staring.”
“Let them stare and I was informed that you were the talk on everyone lips tonight, attending an event without your husband.”
“I’m so so sorry Harry.”
“Don’t it fine, I overreacted but I trust you and that would never change okay.”
Harry fanned his fingers along the edge of her dress to the small of her back and pressed her close. “That’s what they do for the bride and groom’s first dance.” And because he felt her stiffen, he teased her. “They want to see me trip over.” Harry spun her around, their bodies close.
“We just got married again and we had our real wedding dance. The people might be waiting for a while; you seem to know what you’re doing out here.”
Harry removed one of her arms from his neck and led her into another swing before bringing her back. “Well what can I say, I’m married to the most beautiful woman and she deserved every dance and vows after every six years.”
“Thank you, I secretly thank Lillian every day for sending me to your house and now I have my fairytale marriage and family.”
By the time the dance ended, he was staring into her eyes. He lowered his lips to hers for a small taste. Camera flashed and several people clapped as another song began. Mel lifted her lips to his ear. “Was that kiss for the camera or to shut the gossip about our marriage?”
His lips lifted. “That kiss was for you. But this one” he dipped her low arching her back and taking her mouth to his again before bringing her back her- “is for the cameras and any other man out there trying to steal my wife.”
Mel chewed on her bottom lip as she smiled. “Jeez, and I thought the English frowned on such public displays of affection.”
Harry tossed his head back with laughter. “Born English, Mrs. Styles.”
Laughing, they spun around until Harry felt someone tap his shoulder. He twisted to see James grinning. “Mind if I cut in?”
Harry almost told his to back off. Instead, he tilted his head to his wife and let James dance with her.
