Challenges In Our Marriage
Chapter 12
Mel POV
Even since Mel landed in San Diego airport, she only had a little bit of rest thanks to her husband who allowed her to use his private plane. The comfort of having a private plane is joy able and fun, but she misses her family and the plane feels so lonely without them. And now she is about to broad on another private plane but this time with James.
Mel had done a damn good job since she arrived at San Diego, now sitting opposite of James as they shared a smile. They had worked long hours for the last twenty hours and she was just familiar with every aspect of this case and together with James smart and well versed they would do anything in their power to help out the boy.
James POV
Sitting opposite from Mel, he knew with a doubt that she was going to be an asset to him for the week. Since she got married they haven’t had time to spend together and he wasn’t to make use of the precious time that he missed. She clearly understood exactly what it was that they were trying to accomplish, but his love for her was unclear because she is too focus and being ‘Mrs Styles’
He is surprised that Harry allowed her to be in San Diego without putting a fight, after all, being that Mel hadbeen working and travelling fairly regular hours before being married, maybe Harry is just adjusting to the fact the Mel is not his trophy wife. But if there’d been on complaint for Harry about his wife being far away from home and their children then there is no need for him to complain, but simply enjoy the moment.
They’d worked side by side and they were seemingly in sync and something that James missed.
“So if we don’t hit any delays because the case would only go for three to four days, then we should spend the rest to the days doing fun things. So what do you say, Mel?”
“I don’t know, James I have to be home with the kids and Aria’s birthday is coming up.”
“You’re no fun,” he said and he was rewarded with a sexy smile before she turned back and stared at the window.
James noticed that Mel wasn’t she usual self, she looked bad and focus more on her work and doesn’t crack any jokes. It makes James wonder if the magically marriage is about to end. All he could think about is Mel and how badly he wants her, but he would wait for the right time to strike and gain her attention.
“So where are we heading,” asked Mel.
“We are going to Chicago because you would be my partner for my dad’s fundraiser party, but that would be after we checked in our hotel, then have lunch.” He looked up to her. “How does that sound?”
“Good,” Mel said distractedly. Going out to a party without her husband gave her a dreadful feeling. She wanted to talk to Harry about this to seek his approval.
“Well in that case, we’ll just have a quite lunch before going to the party but you can cancel. Since Harry isn’t here and the media.”
Mel laughed. “Sound like a plan. I’ll just talk to Harry once we check in at the hotel.”
While she was busy tapping away on her tablet screen, James couldn’t help but studied her. With her brown hair pulled back into a ponytail and her hazel brown eyes downcast, Mel always tried her best not to stand out and she was the opposite from her crazy and also sexy sister Lillian.
There captain announced their turn for a take off and James knew that Mel was scared of flying, so he walked over to her and sat down. He pulled her hands into his.
“Still not a fan of flying, huh?” he asked, hoping to distract her.
“Not really but Harry had being helping with that,” she said. The sound of his name makes him sick but decided to play along with it.
“Well he is a good husband and the key is to just relax,” he said in a soothing tone.
“Easy for you to say,” she mumbled and heard James laugh as she pulled her hands away from him.
“Look, don’t focus on what you’re feeling, focus on me.”
Mel’s eyes went wide. “Excuse me?” she said, indignant.
“I mean, talk to me about anything,” he suggested trying to avoided her deadly gaze.
“Good we could talk about the case and the evidences that we have on the case. Plus James, I’m married.”
“Sorry if I gave you the wrong impression,” he said.
The next hours was put into good use as they work and explore more evidences on the case. The hours passed quickly and soon they were in the car and heading for their hotel. James was glad that they had adjoining rooms. They were only going to be in Chicago for two days talking to the boy’s friends and family.
The sooner they were settled in their rooms, Mel went straight to call Harry.
