Distorted (A Niall Horan Story)
Chapter 8
*Niall POV*
The lads didn’t give me any pizza in the end. We have been practicing since this morning, for goodness sakes. Good thing Paul let us off for today. I ditched the lads at the studio and went for a shopping. I took a can of soda in my hand, and went to the cashier, and whoa— Alice Williams? She looks troubled. Maybe she forgot to bring money with her?
I smiled and took out my wallet and give the cashier girl 40 pounds. I didn’t look at her face, but I could picture that she’s not pleased with it, perhaps? After I received the bill, Alice pulled my shirt. “Niall, seriously what in the world are you doing?” she complained. “I’m afford to buy all these.” She added. I give her a cheeky smile, “I know you are. But, do you bring any money with you? I don’t think so, mate.”
Alice rolled her eyes and clucked her tongue. “Are you busy?” she asked. I shook my head, “Nope.” I answered. She sighed, “If you would like, I’ll treat you to lunch, instead. Are you okay with that? You can pick any food you want.”
That kind of thought never slipped to my mind, really, she interests me. “Sure, why not?” I said and took some of the plastic bag she’s holding. Alice at first resist of not giving me the bag, but I insist. “Okay. But, I have to go home fist to grab my card with me.” She said. Of course I don’t mind. She led me to her flat, and I just followed her. She doesn’t even intend to talk to me. We arrived at a small flat but I must admit, it’s very comfortable, not very crowded, and it gives a very relaxing sensation. I waited outside her flat, and give her the bag, and soon she has taken what she needs, she locked the door. “Why didn’t you come in?” asked Alice when we walked down the streets.
I shrugged my shoulder and smiles. “You shouldn’t let strangers come in to your house easily you know that? If it wasn’t me, who knows what he might did to you.” Alice lifts her eyebrows and giggles. “So if it is you, then I’m perfectly save?” she get me back with a strange question. I laughed. “Well, if you said so.” Alice started to laugh. Yes! One step closer to her, good job, Niall.
Then, I took her to an Italian restaurant. It’s not so fancy though, but the food there, is very good. We sat closed to the window. “What’s your recommendation, Niall?” Alice asked me while looking at the menu. “Pasta’s over here is two thumbs up.” I said to her while pointing out one of my thumb. “Oh, can I have Cheesy sausage penne, please?” I said to the waitress. She smiled to me and wrote down what I ordered. “Can I have Spaghetti with pink salmon sauce, please?” said Alice. Wow. She knows how to pick food alright.
“Tell me more about yourself,” I started the conversation, “like where do you live and how old are you, something like that.” Alice hesitated to answer, but she laughed then, “I live in California for almost eighteen years, and um, I’m almost 18.” She laughed, “But well, as you can see I moved to London.” She stopped, “your turn,” she added.
I smiled to her with my hands folded, “I’m from Ireland, Mullingar. I’m 19 currently. Hmm, what else, I’m single and currently looking for someone.” Alice burst into laugh, “Oh, you never had a girlfriend before?” she asked. If I said no, I would be lying then, “I did, but it’s a long time ago. Do you have one yourself?” I may be asked her calmly, but seriously, my heart is beating twice faster, hoping we said no. Alice nodded. Shit! “I do have one. But, well, we broke up like two months ago.”
Her face started to frown. She’s smiling, but I know she’s faking it. This is really not a good time. I hold her hand without saying anything. At this time, it’s best for me not to say anything. She smiled to me, and surprisingly, she’s okay with me holding her hands. “I’m okay now. It’s just… well, things happened, and…” My eyes widen when I saw a dripped of tear fell from her eyes. “Alice, are you okay?”
Alice hurried wipe her tears from her eyes. “Yeah, yeah, I’m okay. Sorry to ruin the mood.” I wanted to hug her, but the waitress comes before and gives Alice what she ordered, “one spaghetti with pink salmon sauce?”
*** For about 30 minutes, after we have finished eating, I called the waitress to have the bill. “Okay, how much is it?” asked Alice. I smiles and give my credit card, “I get this one.” Alice rolled her eyes and takes the bill from me, and gives her credit card to the waitress. “Niall, I told you, I’ll treat you lunch.” I chuckle, “Alice, I should be the one who’s paying the bill. You’re a girl.” Alice still insist, “What generation are you living? There’s no such thing as dude will pay the bills anymore. And besides, I promised to treat you lunch.”
“You fulfilled your promise already,” I told her, losing my patience. I never faced as stubborn girl as her. “I haven’t, Niall,” Alice denied. “You did. You accompanied me to have my lunch, and it is more than enough for me.” Alice didn’t say a word for a moment, so I took her credit card and give mine instead, and I told the waitress to run. But, I guess it’s not over yet. Alice wanted to run and chase after the waitress and get my card, but I hold her hand. “Don’t, Alice. This is on me.”
Alice squint her eyes and glares at me. “Niall, this is not fair. You paid for my grocery shopping, my lunch, what are you, my dad?” she sighed. “Niall, okay, I know you’re super famous, maybe that’s the reason why you always do and get what you wanted. But, not to me. I don’t like this, Niall.” She said then left me alone. I couldn’t chase after her. I never met a girl like her.
