She looks startled when she sees me. “Y-yes?”

“What’s your name?”

“Mia Harper,” she answers.

Mia Harper. I like it.

“Mia. Why are you walking home alone in the dark?” I ask trying not sound upset.

“I can’t afford to pay for a cab,” she explains.

“Then let me pay for it?”

“No, it’s alright.”

“Well then at least stay the night, you can leave in the morning if you want to,” I try to reason.

“I don’t know…” She seems scared.

“I promise that I won’t bother you. You can sleep in one of the extra bedrooms or on the couch, whatever makes you comfortable, please just don’t walk alone at this hour,” I beg.

“Um, OK, just for the night and I’ll be gone in the morning,” she says and I nod.

We both walk back to my house in silence and once we get inside I lock up the door.

“Would like anything to drink?” I offer.

“Could I have some water please?” She asks kindly.

I give out a smile. “Sure, I’ll be right back.” I go into my kitchen and grab a water bottle from the fridge.

When I come back into the living room, I see Mia looking at a picture of my family and I on the wall.

“Here’s your water,” I say and hand it to her. She gives me a shy smile and whispers a thank you.

I look at the picture she was looking at. I miss my parents and sisters. I haven’t spoken to them since I told my mum that Danielle and I broke up. I’ll need to see them soon when I can but when I do, I want to be myself again.

When I look back at Mia, I’m startled that she’s looking at me. Not in a creepy way but in a way like she’s trying to see who I am.

“What?” I chuckle to make the situation less awkward.

“I’m trying to figure you out.” I knew it.

“What do you mean?” I ask.

“No one would have done what you are doing for me tonight. Letting me stay here and being nice to me. Anyone else would have just let me walk home until sunrise. Why would you let a stranger stay here?”

She had a point. I don’t know why I was being extra caring and nice tonight.

“I can see it in your eyes.” I try to give my best answer. “I can see that you have been having a rough time. I can see that you’re tired emotionally and physically. I know you’re not a bad person, I can feel it. I can see that you’re good. I’ve never been one to judge a person so quickly but I know I can trust you.”

“Your kindness is strange, Liam. I also don’t understand how you’re so polite and understanding for a guy. Especially how you can see what I’m feeling by looking into my eyes,” she says and looks down.

“Can I ask you something?” she asks me when I don’t reply to her.

“Sure,” I nod.

“Are you unhappy with yourself?”

Her question caught me off guard. I knew my answer but it left me frozen that she asked me that.

“You are, aren’t you?” She looks up at me. “I can see it in your eyes that you are.”

I don’t respond to her. Only feeling my throat getting dried up and my eyes stay focused on hers.

“I have that look in my eyes sometimes as well,” she goes on.

That’s when I knew that we were almost feeling the same thing. I felt this connection with her.

And now I felt the need to connect with her more somehow. I wanted to take away the pain she’s having.

I wanted her physical and but still want to continue to understand her emotionally.



Mia’s POV

Even though I just met Liam tonight, I feel we have the same type of feelings somehow.
I think my questions and hypothesis about him were correct since he didn’t answer me. I didn’t mean to make him feel bad or upset him, I was just caught off guard that he had a correct idea of who I am as a person. He trusted me, a stranger.

He’s very kind and generous, that’s for sure. I’m grateful for what he’s done for me tonight.

I must admit, he looks so hot right now with his hair a bit messed up with him in his sweat pants and undershirt showing off his muscles; gosh it’s hard to not look at him, he’s a very attractive guy.

As we continue to stare into each other’s eyes, I can tell that’s something is about to happen. I don’t know if I should just try to leave again or to break eye contact so we can both sleep.

Luckily, his eyes are no longer staring into mine anymore but instead he looks down at my lips.

Just when I thought about actually asking him if I can sleep on the couch, he steps closer to me making my heart rate go fast.

I don’t dare move an inch as he stands right in front of me now. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t scared because I am. Yet, I have this strange feeling inside me that says for me trust him. He has this aura of kindness that I know is real.

I trust him with whatever he’s about to do.

He slowly rubs my arms up and down making me close my eyes softly. His touch is gentle, sweet, and comforting.

Little by little as he continues to rub my arms up and down, his hands go higher every few seconds until his hands are at the sides of my neck. I want to ask him to stop but I can’t.

His hands end up holding the sides of my face. I feel his forehead lean on mine and I breathe in and out softly.

He’s a stranger. I don’t know him. Why aren’t I pushing him away? I feel like I’m not connected to my body and I’m just letting this happen.

“Open your eyes,” he whispers as I feel his warm breath in my face, it sends goose-bumps down my back.

I do as he asks and meet the most beautiful brown eyes ever. He’s beautiful. This moment feels so intimate that I wish he would just kiss me.

“You have beautiful eyes,” he says softly.

“You do too,” I finally reply.

He smiles lightly but then it frowns. He closes his eyes for second as if the was debating about something.

“I, I know we just met tonight and all but… I um, I want to try something,” he says carefully sounding nervous then opening his eyes to look at me again.

I give him a nod for him to continue.

Just then I felt the softest pair of lips ever on top of mine.
