Unexpected Fate
Chapter 36 EPILOGUE
-Four and a half years later-
So, here I stand, in front of the body length mirror, the past flashing before my eyes. The journey Harry and I had leading up to this moment has been full of bumps and surprises. All that had happened seemed so far away from where we are now. These last four years had been the best years of my life, full of laughter but some tears. Zayn had mended over time, like we knew he would. Niall and Suzan were nothing but friends who enjoyed being flirty. Suzan had finally found the guy right for her while visiting Harry and I in London. Speaking of Harry and me living in London; it was absolutely perfect. Our love grew stronger than I ever thought was possible. Everyone knows that what Harry and I have is something not found often, something you have to cherish and keep safe. I looked down at my beautiful white gown. It hugged my upper body until it reached my hips, and then it’s white, silky fabric flared out a little. The top of my dress was heart cut, with a lace material covering my shoulders and upper back. There was small detail in the front, consisting of small gems and beads. It was simple but I loved it. My brown hair was pulled back loosely into a type of bun, my bangs framing my face.
It was the day I knew was going to come, the day that many were waiting for and MANY loathed. The fans had been very upset, but many were supportive. But all that aside, I was very happy. My mother came up behind me, placing her hands on my shoulders, making eye contact in the mirror, “One more thing,” she whispered.
I turned my head slightly to look at her and she smiled at me. You could tell she had many emotions flooding through her. Over the last four years, she had become very supportive and loving. We had clashed a few times, but nothing we didn’t soon get over. The day I called her and told her Harry and I were engaged, she told me how happy and proud she was. When she told me she was proud of me, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride in that. Making your parents proud is one of the best feelings in the world.
My mom walked over to the dark oak dresser in the changing room, and pulled out a black case in from her purse. She walked back over to me, handing me the case and watching my face. My fingers lingered over the velvet case, finally opening it. Inside was the silver heart necklace Harry had given me, with the London Eye on it and his inscription of him expressing his love for me. I had given it back to Harry the dreadful day I left him in London, but I had never gotten it back, “Where did you find it?”
I looked up at her brown eyes that were holding back tears, “Harry found it a few weeks ago when he was moving his things out of the flat. He gave it to me to surprise you.”
I smiled at her, pulling her into my arms in a hug, “Thank you.”
She sniffled a little and laughed lightly at herself, “Let’s put it on you.”
She pulled away, taking the necklace from the box and placing it around my neck. The metal was cool on my skin but I was glad to finally have it back where it belonged. There was a light knock at the door and it slowly opened, my dad’s head popped through, “Are you ready, nugget?”
I smiled at him sweetly and nodded, “I think so.”
I turned back to my mom, pulling her into another hug. I squeezed her tightly. “I love you, mom.”
She breathed out a shaky sigh, “I love you too, honey.”
I pulled away, squeezing her hand and turning back to my dad. He opened the door wide for me and I stepped out into the hallway. “Oh, Aria, you look beautiful,” I looked up at Suzan, Gemma, Eleanor, and Danielle, who all wore the same short, light pink, strapless bridesmaid dress.
“So do all of you.”
Suzan handed me my bouquet that was a mixture of white and light pink roses and lilies. The girls held ones identical to mine but smaller. I breathed deeply. I was oddly calm. Maybe it was because I knew I was doing the right thing or maybe it was because of the close people around me. Nevertheless, I was ready.
The venue of the wedding was in London at the Kew Gardens. It was a very open white building made of stone. I took my father’s arm and my mother kissed me lightly on the cheek, and made her way to the ceremony area. The girls walked in front of me as we made our way to where everything would take place. I started to hear faint whispers and music lightly playing. The nerves started to kick in and my heart started to race. I knew I wanted this, it was just standing in front of so many people, everyone with their us on me, freaked me out. We stood behind a set of doors, waiting for the bridesmaids’ music to start. Their music began to play and the doors slowly opened. The room was long and the walls were covered with ceiling high windows. The ceiling even had some type of windows on it. People sat in rows of seats, their heads twisted around, trying to catch a glimpse of me. Two huge cement vases full of flowers, stood at the beginning and end of the aisle. The doors swiftly closed after they exited the hall. My father patted my arm, “You look beautiful, nugget.”
I smiled at him, “Thank you dad.”
The music changed to the violinist playing the bridal march and the doors flew back open. Everyone was standing and my father and I began our walk down the aisle. It would be the last time I would have my father’s last name, the last time I was his little girl. People were smiling at me, and I smiled back. The nerves still racked my body, my legs wobbly underneath me, until I made eye contact with those green eyes. My nerves instantly subsided and the smile grew on my face. He grinned back, showing everyone his dimples. Louis stood beside him as his best man, and the rest of the boys trailed behind. As we got closer to him, closer to my destiny, the more excited I got. I knew this was the right thing. I made eye-contact with my mother, who smiled at me tenderly. Then I made eye-contact with Anne and Robin. Anne was smiling at me through her tears and Robin was smiling too but trying to console his wife. I turned back to Harry, who was wearing a black suit and a bow-tie. He had insisted on wearing the bow-tie and I finally gave in.
We reached the end of the aisle, Harry and I not looking away from each other. My father gave me away, I handed my bouquet to Suzan, and I gratefully slipped my hands into Harry’s. They were warm and comforting. While the priest was speaking, Harry and I shared a few whispers, “You look absolutely gorgeous, love.”
I smiled at him, “I love you.”
He grinned back, “I love you too.”
Then the time came, “Harry Styles, will you please read your vows.”
Harry turned to me, smiling at me and never breaking eye contact, “I, Harry Edward Styles, promise to give you the best of myself and to ask of you no more than you can give. I promise to accept you the way you are. I fell in love with you for the qualities, abilities, and outlook on life that you have, and won't try to reshape you in a different image. I promise to respect you as a person with your own interests, desires, and needs, and to realize that those are sometimes different, but no less important than my own. I promise to keep myself open to you, to let you see through the window of my personal world into my innermost fears and feelings, secrets and dreams. I promise to grow along with you, to be willing to face change as we both change in order to keep our relationship alive and exciting. And finally, I promise to love you in good times and in bad, with all I have to give and all I feel inside in the only way I know how. Completely and forever.”
Tears went down my cheeks, and he reached up and brushed them away. Now it was my turn, “Today, I, Aria Nicolette Franks, want you to know how lucky I feel for having found the one perfect person for me, the one who suits me so comfortably and who gives me joy and boundless hope and anticipation for the future. Every day we’re together, you do nothing but make me happy. The day we met was the day I became truly alive again, and today — our wedding day — I declare my love and devotion for you before the entire world. I make a vow to stand by your side through the best and worst of times, and to give you the best of what I have from now until the end of our days.”
The priest said his last few words and then he finally said what we all were waiting for, what we all came for, “I give you, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Styles.”
Harry brought his hands up to my face, and gently pressed his lips to mine. The crowd erupted into claps and cheers, and we turned and made our way to the reception.
-Later-
The tables and chairs were covered with white covers and the plates and silverware arranged perfectly. Flowers, the same as in my bouquet, sat as center pieces. Music was playing and people’s voices filled the room. Harry’s hand never left mine. Anne came up to us, face a little puffy from the crying. She took Harry in her arms, “I am so happy for you, my baby.”
Harry laughed, wrapping his arms around her. She pulled away, taking me in her arms next, “You, my dear, look absolutely stunning! Take care of my boy, okay?”
I smiled at her, “Of course.”
She left us, going to find Robin. All of the sudden, Harry was engulfed by Louis. Louis began fake sobbing, “Oh, Haz! Why did you do this to me?! I thought we had something special!”
I rolled my eyes, sipping my wine. I let him and Harry have their little gay moment. Liam and Niall came up to me, both pulling me into hugs, “That was beautiful.”
I pulled away, smiling at them both, “Thank you.”
I eyed Liam, “So, Liam… When are you gonna, you know, ask Danielle?”
He laughed at me, “Like I am going to tell you! You would be the first one to go tell her.”
I snorted at him, “Would not!”
He rolled his eyes at me, both him and Niall heading towards Louis and Harry. Zayn came up and pulled me in his arms, “You look great, babe.”
“Thanks, Zayn,” I smiled at him.
Zayn and I had gotten a lot closer since what had happened with him and Perrie. He often came to me if he ever felt down about something, and I gladly helped. I felt like I owed him that much. The night went on, and the compliments kept coming. Finally it was time for Harry and I’s first dance. Harry took my hand, leading me to the empty dance floor. He put both of his hands on my waist and I wrapped my arms around his neck. It felt like we were in our own little world when Lovesong by Adele, played through the speakers. Our foreheads were touching as we swayed back and forth to the music. Harry spoke lowly for only me to hear, “Do you remember when I first talked to you about getting married?”
I thought back through all the memories we shared, “When we were in Florida?”
He nodded slightly, “Did you ever think we really would?”
My lips tugged into a smile, “Yeah, I think I did. It seemed really farfetched, but after what we had gone through, I knew I wasn’t going to give you up.”
He smiled back, “I agree with you… one hundred percent.”
Silence fell and we both swayed to the music. He would lightly kiss my lips every so often, which caused the audience to erupt in ‘awes’. I finally spoke, “So, are you ready for this? The end of your bachelorhood?”
My tone was teasing and he rolled his eyes, “My bachelorhood was over the first time I saw you, love. But
I would end that in a heartbeat all over again, just to start this beginning with you.”
He pressed his lips to mine, a little more deeply than the last. Some people tease that once you are married, your life is over, and that may be the case for some, but for me, my life was just beginning.
The End.
