Callie's POV:

I followed Jasmyne all the way. Now I stood before a ramshackle home. The roof was falling apart and the windows were missing. The door was cracked open. I studied it from across the street while I stood behind a tree. Great hiding spot...i know. But it's all I have to work with. Suddenly, I heard loud voices from within the little home. I watched the door for signs of people. Sure enough, Mr. Carter exited the ranch, adjusting his jacket and tie before storming off down the road. I'm not going to deal with that right now. Jasmyne first.

I pulled my phone out of my pocket. Should I text him I found it? He's expecting me to. As I went to press the message button, a bad feeling swirled in my stomach. I inhaled sharply, pressing the call button. I held the phone up to my ear.

"Hello?" Ethan's voice crackled in my ear.

"Ethan?"

"Yeah?"

"I lost them." I lied, hoping he wouldn't catch me.

"What?"

"I lost them."

"No, I heard you. Are you serious?"

"Yeah." I heard him swear on the other end.

"Next time then right?" Is it just me or did he get over that real fast?

"Yeah I guess." I faked sadness with my voice.

"We'll talk later. I gotta go." I nodded even though he couldn't see me.

"Okay." I said, hanging up the phone. Once that was done, I exhaled. I didn't realize I was holding my breath. I'm glad that's over with. I put my phone back in my jacket, taking a step out from behind the tree. There was another bad feeling in my stomach, but I ignored it.

It's time to get my best friend back.
