Chased Across the World
Downward Spiral
"Jasmyne!" My best friend whined in my ear, hanging off my arm. "Don't leave me! Pllleease!!!" I can't believe she's doing this to me.
"Callie," I laughed, "stop being a baby. I'll see you again in like 30 minutes." I said, checking my black watch just to be sure.
"But I don't want you to go!" She pleaded, resting her head on my shoulder. I rolled my eyes, slipping from her grasp. Putting my hands in between us, I stepped back slowly, heading in the direction of my house. I watched as she jokingly reached out to me, her big blue eyes getting even bigger. Oh no. Not the puppy dog eyes.
"Callie," I warned, still moving away. "I'll call you later okay?" She pouted and I took the opportunity to leave. "Bye Cal!" I said, waving over my shoulder before sprinting toward my street. It wasn't a far walk, but it was not short either so I stopped running, returning to a walking pace.
Now that I was taking my time, I noticed how beautiful today really was. It was the start of the school year, the beginning of fall, my favorite season of them all. The changing of the leaves is something I love seeing each and every year, along with the first snowfall, the first blooming flowers, and all the other "firsts" of the year. I smiled to myself, pulling my gray beanie back onto my head. No hats allowed in school. Ridiculous right?
I continued walking, pulling my phone from my pocket. Scrolling through my messages, I saw that Callie had already texted me twice. This girl...
Cal-Pal: Jasmyneee.... im lonely!
Cal-Pal: 25 min and counting!!!
I laughed at her silliness, not even bothering with a response. She'd know I got them, whether I responded or not. Continuing on, I lost myself into my own imagination. I mean, it's not like there's anything else to do. I felt a bit strange though. There was a tingling feeling on the back of my neck, the kind you get when someone's staring at you. A glance behind me confirmed my thoughts. No one was there. Shaking it off, I drifted back into my own world, not bothering to pay attention to where I was actually going. I knew the way home by heart. Nothing unexpected was going to happen.
Problem was that I was completely wrong. You know how people always say "Expect the unexpected"? I really wish I had listened to that. Because as I went to turn onto my street, the unexpected did happen. And I was completely unprepared.
One minute, I was pulling out my iPod to listen to my music, one earphone already dangling from my head. The next, a cloth was covering my face, forcing me to inhale the most ungodly smell ever invented. My arms flailed, legs kicked, and all the while I was slipping from the conscious world. Expect the unexpected. I really hate that saying.
