Hate Love

Chapter Four

“Ah, no, Zayn stop.” I giggled squirming in his grip. I was no longer giving him the cold shoulder since our groups were still in the studio together. Erin, Kaylee, Liam and Louis were out grabbing lunch for all of us while Ava, Harry, Zayn and I were still working. I made the mistake of nearly spilling a childhood secret while telling a story. Upon realizing my mistake I clamped my mouth shut and kept it that way. Harry threatened to ‘torture’ the truth out of me, but Zayn actually chose to do it.
“All you have to do it finish the story,” he reminded me in an eerie calm voice. He was holding my wrist in one hand and using the other to tickle my side. I shook my head. Zayn rolled his eyes, “You are making this much harder than it has to be.” He took a step closer pushing me further into the corner. We were supposed to be recording out verse, but clearly we all were distracted. I wasn’t sure rather Ava and Harry were paying any attention seeing as how Zayn and I were skin-to-skin in a small space and neither had come over the intercom to say anything. “Are you going to tell me?”
“Nope,” I decided popping the ‘p’. Zayn cocked his head slightly moving closer to m. His eyes never left mine as the air around us became charged. Things were tense.
“Hello Perrie,” Ava’s loud voice sounded over the speaker causing Zayn to immediately pull away from me and leave out of the booth. I watched through the window as Perrie entered into the room with a smile. She greeted Ava and Harry before turning her attention to Zayn. It was awkward to watch. This was the first time I’d seen the couple together since that night. As if she sensed my discomfort, Ava turned to me, “Mel, do you want to lay one down on your own?” I nodded in response to her question afraid that my voice would betray the mask on my face. As the playback began Perrie caught my attention. She smiled politely and waved. I gave stiff wave back before going into the song. Music was my outlet and right now I had a lot to get out.
~~*~~
We agreed to perform two songs on Ellen so we were dressed in our costumes three weeks later. Our stylist usually dressed us in edgier clothes for performances to keep away from the typical cookie cutter pop girl group image.
“Those trousers make you look like a dude,” Ava laughed tugging at my red Harem pants. I gave her a playful smile and bounced slightly as Ellen introduced us to her audience.
“Their first album sold over five million copies and produced three number one singles. There second album is due to release in weeks and has already produced a platinum hit. They headlined their first tour this year and every show sold out worldwide. It is an honor to have them on this show. Please welcome Melanie, Ava, Kaylee and Erin; better known as M.A.K.E!” Ellen introduced us generously. The stage lights came on as the studio lights went off. We were in our pyramid formation. Erin d Kaylee were at the head. The music started for 'Liar Liar', our current single featuring Flo Rida.
'Cause I got a player on my hands.
“What!” I amped up the audience playing the role of hype man as the song began.
Got a little jiver on my hands.
“Here we go Makers!” Erin cheered.
I got a faker on my hands.
Got a liar liar on my hands.
“M.A.K.E!” We all shouted as the playback for Flo Rida's part came on and we began the choreography. Standing with our legs shoulder width apart we crossed our hands with one behind the other in front of our stomachs and pushed them out and up in the air. Our hands went to our hips and we bent in on ourselves.
Hey shawty why you didn't tell me you needed soap.
Flo Rida I'll apply with sanitizer you know.
We leaned to the left. Our left end touched our right shoulder and vice versa quickly in time we the beat before we held our hands up palms out as if we surrendering. We moved them down left to right along we our hips before doing a full on hip roll and bending forward touching our hands to the ground.
I do anything for them girls that be getting low low low.
Dirty episode.
With are knees bent we dipped with our left fist then the right pausing the place our left hand on our hip, extending our right arm upward, and waving it in the air. Our arms were folded across our chest as we 'gangster shuffled' (so-called by our choreographer) changing positions so that Erin was in the front on the left and Kaylee on the right with Ava and myself in the back standing in their windows.
Girl I got a Franklin bands.
You spit fifty grand.
You get to know me I can get the liar off your hands.
We uncrossed our arms by putting our hands up and out to the side and rolling our shoulders. Crossing our arms in an ex we brought up our right knee shuffling back four times before bouncing.
Plus I'll clean you up.
Girl we popping rubber bands.
Lil mama I'm the man.
Tell me you understand.
Kaylee stepped forward slightly as we continued with the less aggressive choreography which had quite a few hip rolls, shoulders movements, and foot shuffles. “Everybody gets, gets a fair try. You alright with me until you tell a lie.”
We dipped down swaying our booties slow and wide as the four of us harmonized. “From the top you seemed like a different type of guy.”
“Did your own thing. I gave it a try. Then you,” Kaylee finished her verse as Ava stepped forward with her microphone raised.
“Told me you were catching feelings. Kind of unusual. Normally you don't let no woman ever see this side of you. I'll admit you had me going. Thinking that this was the move. Then I seen a girl all on you. Kissing you. Now your bridge has burned.”
The four our us gather together in a huddle facing the audience. “Uh huh, uh huh.”
“I guess I was wrong about him.” Kaylee and I sang shrugging our shoulders.
“Uh huh, uh huh.”
“It looks like now we got a problem. 'Cause I got a,” Erin and Ava sang.
Player on my hands.
Got a little jiver on my hands.
We balled our fist stretching our right arm to the side and bending our left one spinning it as we turned until our back was to the audience. We crossed and uncrossed our arms stepping to the right with a bounce shaking moving our heads back and forth.
I got a faker on my hands.
Got a liar liar on my hands.
We repeated the moves facing the audience with myself and Ava now in the front.
I squatted down playing with my hair seductively as I sang my part. “I told my girls I wouldn't trip. I'm gone stay calm. I'll just wait till later, then give him a call.” I slowly straightened my stance with a pouty lips expression. “Now he's trying to convince me that I didn't see what I saw. You're on the defense 'cause you know you just broke the law. Now you're...” I turned with my left shoulder as Erin broke through taking the lead.
“Telling me you're all about and no other girl will do. But boy one thing about me is I ain't a fool. And I'll admit you had me going. Thinking that this was the move. Then I seen a girl all on you. Kissing you. Now your bridge has burned!” We repeated the chorus along with the choreography making our way back into our original formation for the dance break slash bridge.
Drop it to the floor!
Oh yeah you got it right this time baby.
You got a little player on your hands.
But if it's too hot for you.
Drop it to the floor!
We slid to the right pushing our arms to the left then popped our chests and body rolled until our knees were bent. We dent our bodies forward to the left pushing our hair over our left shoulders snapping out fingers as we teasingly wiggled our booties smirking at the crowd. Suddenly we snaked to the right with our left fist and then the left with our right fist. We jumped crossing our legs and spinning out of the stance before posing and bringing our microphones to ours mouths.
“What you know about being up in the club with another girl getting caught up?” We sang slightly out of breath. “You know you gone pay. Gotta plead your case. 'Cause I'm coming your way. What you gone say?” The sound of a breath let out was heard as we dropped lowered the mics leaning against each others with our chests rising and falling.
The audience applauded and cheered. Ellen rushed over to us with a wide smile. “Wow!” she hugged each one of us. “That was great.” The audience cheered in agreement.
“Thank you,” the four of chorused still out of breath.
She continued to smile as the audience cheering slowly died down. “Now introduce yourselves for those losers who don’t know who you are.” We all laughed feeling the high off our successful performance.
I held up my mic, “Hi, I’m Melanie.” I said sweetly.
“I’m Ava,” she waved.
Kaylee smiled, “Hello my name is Kaylee.”
“I'm Erin.” The blonde smiled
“And we're M.A.K.E,” we announced in sync. There was more applause. Fans knew how to make you feel great about nothing.
“Wow you even talk in harmony.” Ellen joked causing us to giggle like a bunch of school girls. Now tell us how did you come about?” She inquired.
“Ava and I auditioned for the X-Factor UK and were put into a group that placed second and fell apart after the finale,” Kaylee explained. There was a sad awe from the audience to which Kaylee pouted and nodded.
Ava held up her hand. “But,” she cut in. “But around February we got individual calls from Syco wanting to meet with us in London.”
Erin nodded, “Melanie and I were in ME2 which also placed second on the X-Factor USA, but after her grandmother died we lost our chance to continue so to speak.”
I nodded, “And like our friends from across the pond we got a call and flew to London.”
Ellen nodded, “Well the world owes Simon Cowell a thank you, because you girls are all crazy talented.” She turned to the audience. “Did you see the way they danced?”
“Thank you,” Kaylee spoke up.
“You’re welcome. Now um you have a single coming out and it's a collaboration with One Direction titled Under The Sun. What was it like working with them?” We all smiled and laughed.
“It was different. We all have such different tastes in music and different sounds among our group so the writing process was really interesting.” Ava answered trying to find the right wording.
Erin spoke up as well. “We just kind of went in there with an open mind and the nine of us came up with this song that we liked because it's kind of pop and kind of rock with a little R&B thrown in there and it was really odd to hear.” She laughed and I nodded in agreement.
“It was a lot of fun thought.” Kaylee added. “Right girls? We had fun.” She looked at us for confirmation.
Ava gasped in excitement, “Like when Zayn locked Mel in the recording booth.”
“No that was annoying,” I corrected. The audience laughed.
Ellen smiled enjoying our antics. “You've recently finished production for your sophomore album which is set to be released within the next month? Besides the collaboration, is there anything else we can expect from you?”
“Well as you said our sophomore album will be released in two weeks and is available for pre-purchase on iTunes.” Erin answered giving the audience a pointed look.
“We've also finished filming a music video for our third single so keep your ears open for that. I added. Ellen nodded and we went on commercial break. When we began recording again, we were on the stage prepared to perform.
“Here they are one more time. Please welcome M.A.K.E performing 'Still In Love'.” This time we were all standing side-by-side with microphone stands. This song had been the second single from out first album and was quite popular still.
The remixed piano like music started an d we swayed left-to-right holding our microphones. This was another collaboration hit which meant that the intro wasn't just instrumental.

And I'm still in love.
“M.A.K.E,” we sang in harmony.
Let's go!
Erin started the song, “Thinking about you and me. I don't know what to do about us baby. I'm missing you like ice on my finger. Snow in the winter. Ain't got nothing to do but cry cry on my pillow.”
Kaylee let go of her microphone stand fluttering her hands in the air. It was a habit of hers. “Now I already kissed on Bobby. I already tripped on Trent. I no longer fool with Tommy. And I'm so through with Brent. But I wonder where you went. Baby I've got to tell you that I'm still, still in love.”
We began to sway rhythmically bringing up our legs so that our knees were bent. “I'm still in love.” Kaylee, Erin, and I sang.
“I'm telling you straight up.” Ava sang taking the lead on the chorus.
“I'm still in love.” Our voice were high almost prepubescent like giving the song an old school feel.
“I didn't want us to break up.”
“I'm still in love.”
“Can we get, can we get back to it? Can we get, can we get back to it?”
“'Cause I'm still in love.”
“Still in love.”
My eyes widened as I held the mic with my right hand. “Thinking about your kiss so long. But the problem is your lips are long gone. Baby can you forget about the pressing? Let's think about the present. Tired of the stressing. I just you want to be my baby once again! Oh.”
“Now I already thought about Ryan,” Kaylee came in as my high note lingered. “And I already seen about James. And I know you heard about me trying to rekindle my own flames. And every time I think I can, I hear something about you and I'm like damn, damn, damn 'cause I'm still in love!” We repeated the chorus exactly the same.
“Still in love oh oh ooh ooh ooh,” Ava sang as the playback for our featured artist (a certain singer from Canada who Kaylee was infatuated with) began.
Girl you got me crazy.
Thinking about you everyday.
We pulled the microphones off of the stand pulling them back behind us and prancing forward.
The feelings that I have you baby they could never go away.
Girl I'm still in love no matter what the people say.
You got me all caught up.
So baby come and look my way.
Let's go!
I lifted my microphone as the girls extended their arms in the air clapping and getting the audience to join in. “I'm trying. I'm trying, but I'm lying. I'm lying. 'Cause I'm crying. I'm crying. I'm dying. Without you there's nobody. Nobody. Nobody that moves me like you do. Oh boy you know I'm still in love!” We sang the chorus with me ad-libbing.
“Ooh baby can we get back to it? Get back to it.” Erin sang fiercely.
Kaylee reached to her left ear yanking out her in-ear. “You know I'm still in love with you baby. Oh oh yeah!”
“Can we get, can we get back to it? Can we get, can we get back to it?” Ava sang nodding her head with the music.
“'Cause I'm still in love,” we harmonized one more time.
“Still in love!” I ended the song as the audience applauded.
“M.A.K.E everyone,” Ellen announced. “Their debut album 'Still In Love' is available on iTunes along with their single 'Liar Liar'. Pre-order their sophomore album 'Your Eyes Only' on iTunes! See you tomorrow!” The red light cut off and we all sighed. “It was nice having you girls here. I can’t wait to do it again.” Ellen was so nice. She hugged us all one last time before walking away. Tanya was waiting for us.
“Great job ladies,” she complimented us. “You have two weeks in the States and then you fly back to London to make the music video for Under The Sun. One Direction arrives tonight to take part with the radio promos.” she rattled off our schedule as we made our way out of the building. There were fans waiting for pictures and autographs. We stopped for as many as possible before Rufus, our former body builder bodyguard, pushed us forward.
“This back and forth stuff is getting ridiculous,” Kaylee complained as we got in the back of the black SUV.
Erin nodded in agreement, “I need a month off.”
“Or a year,” Kaylee wished.
I scoffed, “That’s not going to happen.” We were booked for the next three years. Tanya kept pulling event after event out for us. There was no way she should let us have more than a day off here and there.
Ava sighed, “I’ve never met someone who annoys me as much as Tanya does.” She rolled her eyes. We all shrugged. Erin was dropped off at the apartment she shared with her sister first. Next came Kaylee at the small beach front house she rented. Finally I was dropped off with Ava at our building. The doorman, Henry, tipped his hat to us as we entered.
“Hello Miss Ortega and Miss Park,” he greeted formally.
I smiled, “Hello Henry. It’s nice to see you again.” The gold elevator door slid open and I walked inside. My condo was on the fourth floor. When I unlocked the door and stepped inside everything was how I left it. The off-white leather sectional was in the same position in the center of the room. My plasma screen television still hung above the fireplace mantel. There was a purple and black plush zebra print rug covering the hard wood floor. The black wrought-iron glass coffee table was on top of it. There was a black leather chair without arms on the right of the sectional with a purple decorative pillow. I walked behind the sectional and up the four small stairs onto the platform hallway. On my left was the way to my room and bathroom. On my right was the stainless steel kitchen. I went straight to it. I hadn’t eaten all day and was in desperate need of food.
@RealMelanieO: Aw home sweet home (the States version that is).

M.A.K.E BRINGS SEXY BACK ON ELLEN
Our favorite British-American girl group were on Ellen yesterday and they brought the sexy.
It's no secret that M.A.K.E are not only talented singers, but skilled dancers as well. Here lately the quartet has made quite a transition from girl group to woman ensemble and their sexed up appearance yesterday gave them a boost.
Pictured above, Melanie, Ava, Kaylee, and Erin reminded the world why they weren't just any girl group performing single 'Liar Liar' for the first time ever with choreography that had us gasping for air (Melanie hip roll huff said).
After chatting with Niall Horan's long lost twin for a bit the girls closed the show with a even sexier (if that's even possible) performance of 'Still In Love'. Video links to both performances are below. Watch and tell us what you think.

I padded to the door of my condo in black spandex shorts in a yellow sports bra. I had recently come back from the gym and whoever was knocking on my door was interrupting my shower. I figured it must be Ava since she lived right next door, but I was wrong.
“Zayn? What are you doing here?” I asked stepping aside allowing him to come in.
He stayed in the hallway, “We flew in yesterday and had the day off. Can we talk?” I nodded stiffly and he came inside. He looked around my semi-lavish apartment with an appreciative expression. “This is just your place?”
“Yep, I had to make sure to get my own space.” I informed him plopping down on my couch. Zayn took a seat as well keeping his distance. “What’s on your mind?”
He sighed turning to face me suddenly, “I’m sorry for not telling you that I was back with Perrie.” I fixed my mouth to accept his apology, but he continued. “However you did suggest it.” He reminded me. He had a point although I was over the fact that they were back together. The whole studio thing did still bother me though.
“Because you two are perfect for each other!” The fan in me argued. “Besides I got over it the same day. Skateboarding tends to do that.”
He wore a doubtful expression as he propped his elbows on his knees, “We argue a lot now about everything. It’s frustrating as hell.”
“Couples argue,” I shrugged. “Or at least I think they do. I’m not familiar with this relationship stuff.” Zayn chuckled lightly looking back at me. I shrugged picking up my remote off of the black spiral notebook on my coffee table. He reached for the notebook flipping to the center page and reading.
“What’s this?” he asked looked at the words and symbols with genuine curiosity.
“I’m considering doing a cover of 'Mirrors'.” I admitted. He was holding my personal lyric book, but for some reason I wanted him to look through it. I didn't even let the girls see what I had written in there.
Zayn nodded, “It sounds really good. You should do it.”
“Only if you do it with me,” I joked.
He shrugged, “Okay, but you have to let me take all credit.” He joked as we shook hands sealing the deal.
~~*~~
Zayn and I stood around the piano bench in my apartment with the digital camcorder on its stand. Erin played the slow opening notes of 'Mirrors' perfectly aware that we were recording. When I mentioned to Zayn doing the cover I definitely didn’t think that he would agree, but here we were hours after working out the kinks and taking a trip to the nearest skate park for some fresh air.
Zayn took in a breath and began to sing, “Aren’t you something to admire because your shine is something like a mirror? And I can’t help but notice you reflect in this heart of mine. If you every feel alone and the glare makes me hard to find. Just know that I’m always parallel on the other side.”
I looked up at the camera, “Cause with your hand in my hand and a pocket full of soul I can tell you there’s no place we couldn’t go. Just put your hand on the glass I’ll be trying to pull you through. You just got to be strong.” I sung in a low smooth voice.
We sang together, “‘Cause I don’t wanna lose you now. I‘m looking right at the other half of me.”
I broke off allowing Zayn to sing the next line alone, “The vacancy that sat in my heart is a space that now you own.”
“Show me how to fight for now and I tell you baby it was easy coming back into you once I figured it out.” I rejoined him.
“You were right here all alone,” I sang solo.
“It’s like you’re my mirror.” We sang as Erin did the infamous background uh-oh. “My mirror staring back at me. I couldn’t get any bigger with anyone else beside of me. And now it’s clear as this promise that we’re making two reflections into one. ‘Cause it’s like you’re my mirror. My mirror looking back at me. Looking back at me.”
I began to snap, “Aren’t you something? An original ‘cause it doesn’t seem merely a sample. And I can’t help but stare cause I see truth somewhere in your eyes.” Naturally I looked to Zayn as I sang the two lines.
“I can’t ever change without you. You reflect me I love that about you and if I could I would look at us all the time.” He sang in that R&B voice of his.
“’Cause with your hand in my hand and a pocket full of soul I can tell you there’s no place we couldn’t go!” I sang with more feeling this time.
“Just put your hand on the glass I’ll be trying to pull you through you just got to be strong. Oh.” Zayn sang before we went back into the chorus singing it as we did before. When it came time for the bridge Erin came up with her own background vocals. “Yesterday is history.”
“Tomorrow’s a mystery. Uh oh.” I sang alone with my eyes closed as I focused on the words escaping my mouth.
“I can see you looking back at me. Keep your eyes on me.” We sang together neither of us looking at the camera.
“Yeah baby keep your eyes on me.” Zayn ad-libbed naturally. We went back into the chorus with the piano dropping out and Erin clapping rhythmically. Once we finished the last line of the chorus, Zayn and I both went for the raspy note that never fail to chill the room. Erin came back in with her playing.
“Shining like a mirror,” I ad-libbed before going back into the note. “Yeah.”
“You are, you are the love of my life.” Erin repeated in her low voice until we went back into the note.
“It’s like you’re my mirror.” Zayn and I finished the song our own way as smiles spread across our faces. Erin stood turning off the camera. Within an hour Kaylee had the video edited and posted on several websites.

Our cover was the hot topic for some days. There were articles dedicated to it. Someone made it studio quality and published it. Eventually our label found a way to buy the published work and sell it on iTunes. It seemed to have brought Zayn and me closer friendship wise. Until we were both reminded that he was in a committed relationship. The happened when Perrie made a tweet about the cover and being proud of her “amazingly talented boyfriend”. That was when I put the wall back up.

Notes

I went back and rewrote this chapter (again) so i hope you enjoy it!
