Hate Love

Chapter Two

Our London home was purchased by the label long before our group even existed. When we were initially approached about forming M.A.K.E this house was where we were taken for the night. It was a four bedroom, Victorian style, two story house not too far away from central London. When the black van pulled into the driveway a sigh escaped all of our lips. We grabbed our luggage and basically ran to the front door. Ava pulled out her key and unlocked the door as we stood on the luxury porch.
“Home sweet home,” Ava sighed as we entered the foyer. She left her black suitcase by the door and headed straight down the hall to the kitchen. Erin went to the right hallway heading towards the nearest bathroom. Kaylee followed her going to her room. There were two bedrooms downstairs and two upstairs. I pulled my luggage up the stairs and to the second door on the right. We were allowed to decorate our bedrooms ourselves which relaxed me instantly when I switched on the light and saw the lavender floral comforted queen size bed on the one foot platform located against the center wall directly across from the door. To my right was a small alcove with two lavender and white stripped cushioned armchairs which led to the small balcony. My walk-in closet was on the left. The plasma television hung on the same wall as the door above my desk. I sighed and laid on the bed. It was much more comfortable than the bed in my LA apartment. My eyes began to feel heavy.
“Mel!” Erin called loudly. They popped back open. With a groan I got out of bed and trudged down the stairs.
“What?” I groaned. When my sleep was interrupted I got grouchy.
“We’re cooking come join,” she waved me towards the kitchen as she rounded the corner. I peeped over the stair railing. Kaylee was at the island chopping something. Ava was holding a cook book. I decided to join them. It was our bonding moment.

We were given one day off and I spent it in the home studio trying to turn my thoughts into a song. As I fiddled on the keyboard Ava entered quietly. I looked up when she stood next to the bench.
“Got anything good yet?” she asked.
“Tell me what you think of this,” I began to play the slow melodic beat that I had mentally composed. “Lately I’ve been trying fight whatever’s pulling us under. It’s got a hold and really making me wonder what it takes to get through. I’ve got to stick with you my baby. Baby tell me. Maybe I’m foolishly overreacting, but being without you I can’t imagine. It’s just too close to the heart and I won’t stand it if we’re broken apart oh no.” I sang ending with the only lyrics I had.
Ava nodded, “I like it. Continue playing,” she encouraged me taking a seat on the bench. She pointed to the music sheet, “Is this the chorus?” she asked and I nodded. “On three, yeah?” I nodded again knowing what she meant.
Ava counted off before we began to sing together, “Do you hear me? Baby you’ve got to believe in the things that make you and me win together. Don’t you throw in the towel. I’m keeping my promise to you I’ve got your back now. When the chips are down and it seems like it’s so hard for us to move ahead just know that I am by your side. There ain’t no ifs, buts or maybes. I’m going to stay around and ride for you baby.”
Ava nodded signaling that she had come up with something, “We’ve been cutting it close with the backwards and forward. We’re rocking the boat. We’ve got to get control of this.” As she opened her mouth to continue another voice cut us off.
“Let’s take it back to three years ago when we said could make through whatever.” Kaylee sang entering the room quietly. “And to me it sounded like you meant forever. Leaving was not an option baby never ever.”
“Now don’t you believe in a love that’s worth a fight? In you is everything that I’m missing. So give us a chance!” Ava cut in as I pointed to the music sheet getting Kaylee’s attention. She nodded singing the chorus with me as Ava ad-libbed.

It was the same day, but we were in the studio. It was just us four girls and an engineer. When we wrote a great song together we liked to record it immediately for presentation. Currently Ava, Kaylee and I were sitting at the board while Erin was in the booth.
“Ready?” Thomas, the music engineer, questioned. Our blonde member nodded sliding the headphones in place.
“Don’t you dare tell me we’ve got to let it go.” She sang in her unique voice. “We’ve been on top for too long to start over with another. I don’t want to hear it. Just tell me you hear me.” She stopped.
“Good take Erin,” Kaylee commented. “We’re coming in.” The three of us stood and walked into the booth.
“Playback,” Thomas announced playing back what Erin had just recorded.
“And know,” Erin continued.
“Wherever you want to take me,” we harmonized.
“I’ll go,” Kaylee sang solo. “I’ve been with you far too long to…”
“… start over with another.” Our harmonizing was point might I say.
“I know that you hear me. Just tell me you hear me!” Ava sang as the three of us went into the chorus. “Baby you’ve got to believe in us. Boy don’t give up on me.” She ad-libbed.
“Don’t you throw in the towel…” we continued with the chorus each member dropping out when it was time for their own flavor to it.
“No, no, no, no…” Kaylee ad-libbed. “Oh. Oh-oh!”
“When the chips are down and it seems like it’s so hard for you to move ahead just know that…”
“I am right here.” Erin sang slowly in a strong voice.
“There ain’t no ifs, buts, or maybes. I’m going to stay around and ride for you baby.”
“Whoa oh oh. Oh oh oh. Whoa oh oh. Whoa oh oh oh.” I hit the notes in my chest voice playing on the emotions of the song.
“I’m going to stay around and ride for you baby.”
“Whoa oh oh! Uh-oh! Oh!”
“I’m going to stay around and ride for you baby.” We all stopped singing as the piano played its pre-recorded six note outro. When the red light went off we high fived feeling successful. Our third album had another track. After recording the last take we all sat around as Thomas worked his magic. I went to the vending machine checking my cell phone along the way. I had several Twitter notifications and one text message. I decided to check the text message first.
Zayn: You’re a horrible friend!
Me: :( What did I do?
Zayn: Let your group agree to an early studio time.
Me: Hahaha! You’ll be okay.
Zayn: No I won’t.
Me: I’ll bring a large cup of coffee and a scone.
Zayn: I shall hold you to that.
Me: We’re recording. See you tomorrow.
“Who’s that?” Erin asked curiously rising on the tip of her toes to look over at my cell phone. I quickly backed away from her and locked my phone.
“No one important,” I lied. “Is he finished yet?” Erin nodded and led the way back to the studio room. I sighed with relief that she let it go. We listened to the recording evaluating it like our team would before it was actually approved for the album.
“It sounds like a hit,” Thomas commented as the freshly recorded song ended.
Ava sighed, “We’ve only got five approved tracks for the album and it’s set to be released next year. They have to approve this or our third album isn’t going to be worth the wait.”
“Surely they will,” Erin spoke trying to reassure us all. “You can’t have a great first album, awesome second album, and sucky third album.”
I shook my head, “I don’t know. They’re still releasing singles off of the second album and it isn’t available yet. They could honestly push back the release if they wanted to.” The realization hit us all.
“Onto bigger problems. What about tomorrow?” Erin asked quickly changing the subject.
Ava scrunched her nose, “Who would have thought we would be collaborating with One Direction?”
“Not me,” I put in taking a swig of my vitamin water. “I just hope we create a hit.”
“Isn’t that what you always hope?” Erin asked sarcastically.
“It’s going to be different that’s for sure, but they have never made a bad song.” Ava reminded us. She produced her iPhone from her pocket and began to scroll on it. Suddenly she gasped. “Erin you should not have posted that picture.” She shook her head passing the phone to me. Kaylee and Erin crowded around as we read the short article that had Ava’s panties in a bunch.
After only knowing each other for forty-eight hours it seems that One Direction’s Zayn Malik and M.A.K.E’s Melanie Ortega have hit it off. Fellow label mate Erin Newsom tweeted an adorable picture of the two snuggled together during their long plane ride from LA to London. The sleeping duo look completely innocent in their physical contact, but we can’t help but to wonder how Perrie Edwards (Zayn’s on-again off-again girlfriend) feels about this. Is it too soon to ship Zelanie?
“Is it?” Kaylee nudged me pulling back. Ava glared at her as Erin scratched her ear in a guilty fashion. “Oh come on guys we all know the rags twist everything to make sales. We were there. Mel was asleep and unaware of the fact that she was spooning Zayn.” Kaylee quickly defended me with a teasing tone.
I smiled at her mock gratefully, “Exactly. They’re just trying to get a rise out of someone.” I tried to sound sure, but my heart rate had accelerated. Suddenly I turned to Kaylee, “I was not spooning him.” She shrugged walking out of the room. The girls followed. I walked down the hallway in a silent frenzy. If the picture of Zayn and me kissing ever got out all hell would break loose.
Erin rolled her eyes, “I posted the picture because it was adorable like they said before they perverted the whole thing.” She turned to me, “If you want me to take it down I will. Just say the word.”
I pulled out my own iPhone, “I can do one better.” I informed them all clicking on my Twitter application.
@RealMelanieO: How could anyone ship “Zelanie” when I’m #TeamZerrie all the way?

Notes

The song is called "Ride For You" by Danity Kane. Go look it up on YouTube. It's really good!
