Chapter 5: Making Mistakes
I was lying in bed, tossing and turning for hours. I could not fall asleep to save my life. I pulled out my phone, and dialed Louis’ number. He answered on the first ring.
“Hey love, is everything all right?” He asked softly.
“I can’t sleep.” I replied.
Louis sighed on the other end of the phone.
“Me either.” He said finally.
I stayed quiet for a bit. I knew if I asked to come back, I would sound needy, and I didn’t want to seem desperate, but I desperately need to be with Louis. I was hoping that he would invite me to come over.
Louis said nothing, and I heard a knock at the door. I got up, and opened the door slowly, and Louis was standing in the doorway.
He had a big grin on his face as he slipped into my room. I was still holding my phone by my ear.
“You can hang up now.” Louis laughed.
I giggled, and shut the phone. Louis tossed my phone onto the couch, and flung me over his shoulder. He carried me to bed, and laid down with me.
He pulled the blankets over me, and wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me into him, so my head was resting on his chest.
“I’m glad you called, I would have just spent the entire night thinking about you if I couldn’t have seen you.” Louis said.
“I needed you.” I whispered.
Louis smiled, and placed a delicate kiss on my forehead.
“I needed you too.” He said.
I smiled up at him.
“Get some sleep now.” Louis said.
I nodded, and snuggled as close to him as I could, and he held me tightly to him. We both closed our eyes, and drifted off to sleep.
The boys had tomorrow off and Louis and I wanted to just hang out as the two of us, but we couldn’t, because it would look a bit dodgy.
When we woke up in the morning, there was a loud pounding on my door.
“Shit.” Louis mumbled, rolling off the edge of the bed.
I covered my mouth, and tried to stifle a laugh. I was so tired, but I couldn’t help but think how much I loved waking up to Louis.
“Go get thee door, and act natural.” Louis whispered, as he ran out of the bedroom to go hide.
I nodded, and raced to the door. I swung it open, and a fuming Paul stood there.
“Where is Louis?” He asked.
“In his room?” I suggested.
“I checked there, and he wasn’t there. He wasn’t with any of the boys, or the band, or the security. I even checked Lou’s room, and he wasn’t with her. You were with him last night, where is he?” Paul asked.
“I couldn’t tell you. I left his room last night, and that was the last I saw of him.” I replied.
Paul nodded, clearly convinced by what I had told him.
“What is going on between you and Louis anyway?” Paul asked.
“I don’t know what you mean?” I stated.
“Yes you do, don’t play dumb with me.” Paul said.
“Louis and I are friends. He’s a very nice and funny guy, and we get along quite well. Now if you don’t mind, can I go back to sleep. It’s my day off too.” I said.
Paul nodded.
“Sorry for the confusion.” He said before walking away.
Just as I was about to close the door, Louis came walking up behind Paul, from the other end of the hallway.
“Well Paul, sneaking out of Macintosh’s room so early in the morning, how will your wife feel about that?” Louis joked with a huge grin on his face.
Paul cracked a smile, as he looked at Louis.
“Where were you? I’ve been all over this hotel trying to find you.” Paul said.
“I was in the gym, in the steam room, getting steamy.” Louis said.
Paul nodded, and Louis looked at me.
“Hey, I think the boys are all heading for breakfast, would you like to come?” Louis asked me.
“Sure.” I nodded, and tried not to laugh.
Louis’ eyes were dancing with laughter, and I was trying not to just run over to him, and break down. He was a special guy.
“Go get ready, and I’ll meet you here in say twenty minutes?” Louis suggested.
“Sounds like a plan.” I smiled.
With that I waved, and closed the door, going to get dressed.
I didn’t really go all out with my clothes. I just put on some jeans and a sweater, and did my hair in a braid. I was really simple, and I never wore much make-up, I didn’t like how it clogged up my pores.
When I was ready, I met Louis outside of my room, and he linked his arm in mine, and we headed for the lobby to meet up with the rest of the boys.
When we found the boys, Harry ran over to me, and scooped me up into a big hug. I hugged him back, because I had to. If I got all awkward people would get suspicious of me.
“Alright let the girl breathe.” Louis laughed, untangling me from Harry’s arms.
I smiled, and Harry put his arm around my shoulders.
“You look really pretty today.” Harry said.
“Thank you.” I smiled.
I tried not to look over at Louis; I didn’t want him to get mad at me.
“So let’s go then.” Niall said, and headed for the door.
Everyone followed, and Harry kept me close to him. I stayed with him, and watched Louis avoid me, and head off with the other boys.
My heart sank a little, and I felt like I had just lived the shortest relationship ever.
We all got in the car, and drove to a small diner. When we got there, Harry still kept me close to him, and sat with me at the table once we got seated.
Louis glared at me the entire time.
“Louis, you seem a little tense, what’s up?” Zayn asked.
Louis shook his head, and excused himself from the table. I tried to remain cool, but I really wanted to run after him, and apologize, and beg him to forgive me. This whole situation was my fault.
“You’ve been with him a lot, is everything okay?” Liam asked me worriedly.
“He’s never said anything wasn’t.” I lied.
Liam nodded.
“Maybe you should go talk to him?” Zayn suggested.
“Me?” I asked.
The boys nodded.
“I don’t know him that well, I mean there is nothing I could say that would be any more useful than like what one of you would say. He knows you, he doesn’t know me.” I said.
“Yeah so? That’ll make it easier for him to open up to you. He’s so comfortable with us, we need to keep him on his toes.” Niall said.
It didn’t make much sense, but I stood from the table anyway.
“Where did he go?” I asked.
Everyone shrugged at me.
“What if he’s in the bathroom? I can’t go in there.” I said.
“Stop making excuses, and just go find him.” Niall said with a smile.
I rolled my eyes.
“Fine, but if I get yelled at for going in the men’s room, it’ll be on all of your consciences.” I said.
The boys laughed, and I walked away.
I dialed Louis’ number, but he didn’t answer me. I texted him too, but I never got a reply. He was mad at me, and I felt terrible.
I was walking through some weird hallway, when I heard noises coming from a closet. I pulled open the door slowly, and Louis was sitting there on the ground.
“Just go back to the table and flirt with Harry.” Louis said.
“I was not flirting with him Louis. He was flirting with me, and I just went with it, because if I didn’t then I would look weird.” I said harshly.
Louis couldn’t seriously be mad at me, for acting natural like he told me to.
“You and him clearly have feelings for each other, so just forget me, and go have fun with Harry.” Louis said.
“I don’t even know where any of this is coming from Louis.” I said.
“It’s coming from you and Harry gazing at each other, and you and him laughing at everything the other one says, and his arm is always around you, and you always need to be near him.” Louis said getting angry.
“Oh of course, that’s why I called him last night when I was lonely and couldn’t sleep.” I said sarcastically.
Louis laughed.
“Don’t you dare laugh at me Louis Tomlinson.” I said.
Louis shook his head.
“You seriously think you can just play all of us. Just because you are good looking, doesn’t mean you can have whatever you want.” Louis said.
“I’m not playing anyone. How could you even say that!?” I shouted.
“Don’t lie to yourself.” Louis said.
I stood frozen in front of him. I didn’t know what to say. Everything he had just said ripped tiny little holes in my heart, and I didn’t know what I was supposed to do.
I felt my eyes stinging with tears, and I willed myself not to cry. I would not let him get the best of me.
“I thought that we actually had something, but I was clearly mistaken.” I said in a low voice.
Louis looked up, and saw the pain in my face, and his eyes filled up with sorrow.
“Mac-…” Louis began.
“Just save it. I’ll leave you alone.” I whispered.
I ran back down the hallway and out back to the table. All the boys were talking and laughing, and I walked over slowly, and tried to grab my purse. Harry grabbed my arm, and stopped me.
“What’s wrong?” He asked softly.
“I’m not feeling well, I just want to go back to the hotel.” I said.
“What did Louis say to you?” Niall asked.
“Nothing, I just need to go.” I said.
“I’ll come with you.” Harry suggested.
“No, I’ll go by myself. You guys have fun today.” I stated.
I took off out of the restaurant, and called a cab back to the hotel. When I got there, I ran inside, and flopped onto my bed, sobbing into my pillow.
I couldn’t believe any of this just happened. I really thought Louis and I had something, and the way he treated me today was terrible. I didn’t know where any of it came from.
I laid in my bed for hours, and just pondered how I would ever face Louis again. He clearly didn’t want anything to do with me, and I realized Lou had been right the whole time.
I shouldn’t have mixed romance and work. This was my job, and I was screwing it up by getting romantically involved with Louis.
I laid down for a long time, until I heard a knock at the door. I groaned, and got up from the bed.
“Coming!” I called.
I walked into the bathroom first, to see what I looked like. My face was swollen from crying, and my cheeks were rosy and tear stained. I looked a mess, but I didn’t even care. I proceeded on to the door, and swung it open.
Louis was standing there. I felt my eyes well up with tears, and one slid down my cheek. Louis reached out and brushed it away.
“I’ve ruined everything haven’t I?” Louis asked.
I nodded slowly, and didn’t meet his gaze.
“Is there any way I can fix it?” Louis asked.
I shook my head no.
“I don’t want to lose you Macintosh.” Louis said.
I looked up at him, and his eyes were misty.
“I don’t want to lose you either.” I whispered.
Louis tilted my chin up, so I was facing him.
“Then don’t push me away. Let me make it up to you. Let me fix it.” Louis said.
I stepped away from him.
“Please don’t.” Louis said stepping closer to me.
“Why did you say those things to me?” I whispered.
“I was jealous of Harry.” Louis said.
“You laughed at me. I was telling you I needed you and you laughed at me.” I stated.
“I was being an idiot. You have to believe me. You mean the world to me, and I am so sorry for screwing things up with you.” Louis said.
I nodded slowly.
“Will you please forgive me?” Louis asked.
I shrugged, and Louis let out a sigh.
“I don’t know what else I can do.” He said softly.
I didn’t say anything. Louis took my silence as an answer, and turned to walk out the door.
His back was facing me, and I ran up behind him, and spun him around to face me. Our faces ere inches apart, and I placed my hand on the back of his neck.
“Kiss me now.” I said.
Louis smiled down at me.
“What are you waiting for Louis?” I asked with a small grin.
Louis didn’t wait any longer, he closed the space between us, and pressed his lips to mine. He look my bottom lip in his mouth, and pulled me closer to him by my back. His tongue slid along my teeth, and begged for entrance to my mouth, but I denied it. I broke away from the kiss slowly.
“You can have more, when you finish making up for being an ass.” I said with a proud smile on my face.
Louis grinned, and rubbed my back gently. I rested my head on his shoulder, and he kissed my forehead.
“I thought you were going to let me leave.” Louis said.
“I don’t give up that fast Louis Tomlinson.” I whispered.
“Good, I like a fighter.” Louis smiled.
I giggled, and pecked Louis’ lips.
Our moment was ruined, when we heard someone cough loudly behind us. We both turned around to see Lou and Paul standing there.
“Hey love, is everything all right?” He asked softly.
“I can’t sleep.” I replied.
Louis sighed on the other end of the phone.
“Me either.” He said finally.
