Chapter 2: Moving on
I woke up the next morning to a loud beeping outside my window. I jumped up from bed, and looked at the clock. I should have been up about an hour ago, to get ready to leave to board the plane.
I ran down the stairs, and pulled open the front door. Louis was waiting in his car, and I motioned for him to come inside.
He stepped out of his car, and made his way to my door.
“I am so sorry, I over slept, and how much time do I have to get ready?” I asked.
“Like twenty minutes. Don’t worry. Just go get dressed, and I’ll get your bags to the car.” Louis said with a sweet smile.
“Thank you so much.” I said, running upstairs.
I got my bags from my room, and chucked them down the stairs.
“Geez Macintosh, watch where you fling stuff, you nearly took my head off.” Louis said chuckling.
“Sorry!” I hollered from my bedroom.
I quickly flung on some clothes, and did my hair as best as I could. I drowned my face in make-up, trying to hide the bags under my eyes, and the acne that I would be getting from lack of sleep.
When I was done, I sprinted downstairs, to find Louis sifting through my cupboards.
“Can I help you?” I asked with a smirk.
“You have like no food in here, you realize that right?” Louis laughed.
“Well, I’m leaving now aren’t I? Why would I stock up?” I stated.
Louis shrugged, and agreed.
“Well Miss Sleepy, are you ready to hit the road, or are we just going to stand here, and stare at your empty cupboards?” Louis asked.
“Let’s go.” I smiled.
Louis placed his hand on the small of my back, and led me out to the car. He opened my door, and let me in, and then closed it before making his way to the other side of the car. Once he was in, he started up the engine, and we set off to the airport.
“So tell me about yourself then?” Louis said.
“What do you want to know?” I asked.
“What did you do before you started working with us?” Louis asked.
“I was touring with Lady Gaga, doing her make-up and stuff, but then the tour ended, and I was a bit out of work, and then your management called me and set up an interview, and well here I am.” I stated.
“You have an interesting life. How’s your home life? Your childhood?” Louis asked.
“What do you mean?” I said.
“Like are you from a broken home, or was everything peachy?” Louis said.
“My childhood wad good. My parents, fortunately are still together, and we never had like any major money issues, we did well for ourselves. What about you?” I asked.
“My parents divorced when I was little, but things went okay.” Louis said.
“You have loads of sisters right?” I asked.
“Yeah, miss um loads when I’m on tour, but it just makes returning home that much better.” Louis said with a smile.
Louis was a very sweet guy, he seemed like a family man, and I really liked that about him. He didn’t seem like a crazy player jerk kind of a guy, and I respected him for that.
As we drove to the airport, we just talked and got to know each other a bit more. We talked about goofy stuff like our favorite colors, but we also talked about some more serious stuff.
“When I was in high school, that’s when kids began picking on me more.” I said.
“Like how?” Louis asked.
“I was different you know? Like I had flaming red hair, that I dyed myself, a little brighter than it is now, and I wore crazy make-up, and colorful clothes. I guess I looked a little tacky, but I liked it. The kids at school always had something to say about how I looked. It was like everyone had an opinion, and they just thought they were so relevant. I mean, I guess it hurt me, but I never let it show. I let them say whatever, but as long as I didn’t let it faze me, I was okay.” I said.
“I wish I knew you then, I would have kicked everyone who insulted you in the throat. You’re such a sweetie, you don’t deserve all that.” Louis said.
“Thanks.” I laughed.
It was weird how comfortable I was talking to Louis. I felt like I had known him forever, and like we were old friends catching up. I had never opened up to anyone, not even like my family about what happened to me in school, but for some reason, I just poured it all out to Louis like it was nothing.
We finally arrived at the airport, and Louis took all my bags out of the car. I went to grab them, and Louis slapped my hand away.
“I’ll get you a trolley.” Louis said.
I smiled, and Louis grinned at me. He helped me get my bags inside, and all the boys were standing there.
“Morning lady.” Harry said, and opened his arms to me for a hug.
I stepped into his hug, and his arms engulfed me. I stepped away, but Harry kept his arm securely around my shoulder.
Harry smiled down at me, and I grinned. Louis shot him a death stare, but Harry just ignored it.
“Let’s get on the plane then. I’ve got a seat next to Macintosh.” Harry said.
“No I am.” Louis said.
“Nope, my seat is clearly next to hers.” Harry said.
Harry and Louis both pulled out their boarding passes and started comparing them.
“Can I see that love?” Harry asked, and grabbed my boarding pass from my hand.
I shrugged, and Louis and Harry proceeded to argue over who was next to me. Liam then walked over, and grabbed all of our passes.
“Louis, you are now sitting next to Harry, and Macintosh is sitting next to Paul.” Liam said, handing me a new boarding pass.
I nodded, and walked onto the plane. I took my seat, and Louis came and sat next to me.
“I thought you were sitting with Harry?” I asked.
“Oh you were really looking forward to sitting with Paul weren’t you?” Louis joked.
“I really was.” I said smiling.
“I just asked Paul to switch seats with me, because I liked the isle.” Louis said.
I laughed, and Louis smiled.
“Well sorry to disappoint, but I plan on sleeping this whole flight.” I said.
“Oh you weren’t going to disco for me?” Louis asked.
“Fortunately for you, no I wasn’t going to disco for you.” I smiled.
Louis grinned.
“Well in that case, you can rest on me if you like.” Louis said.
“Alright.” I said.
Louis pulled out a blanket, and draped it over me, and I laid my head gently on his shoulder, and closed my eyes. I drifted off to sleep.
When I woke up, Lou ran over to me.
“Macintosh, you have just done it haven’t you?” She whisper screamed at me.
“What did I do now?” I asked.
“Louis is head over heels for you, and you just play along.” Lou said.
“I have no idea what you are talking about.” I stated highly confused.
“You are sleeping on his shoulder, he came to your house to get you, he and Harry had a lovely squabble over who could sit with you, he carries your bags everywhere, not to mention the way he admires you all the time. You have him wrapped around your little finger, and he is mad over you. You need to set the record straight, that you two are just friends, or else you could lose your job, and he can get in a mass load of trouble.” Lou stated.
“There is nothing going on between us. He was driving me to the airport this morning, so we wouldn’t have to all be making random trips. I know him the best, and he probably just didn’t want me to be uncomfortable sitting with people I don’t know. He helps me with my bags, because he is just a nice guy, and I’m the new girl. I’m like a shiny new toy, that everyone wants a turn with. When the novelty wears off, there will be nothing left, and it’ll all calm down.” I said.
“You better hope you’re right, or things can go very wrong for you.” Lou said.
“Trust me, nothing is going on.” I stated.
Lou nodded, and returned to her seat. I let out a deep sigh, and rested my head back against my seat. My temples were throbbing, and I held my head in my hands for a minute.
Louis sat back down next to me, and looked over at me.
“You feeling okay? You look a bit pale.” He asked.
“My head’s bothering me.” I said.
“I’ll get you some Advil if you like?” Louis stated.
“No, I’m fine, I’m just like tired or something, it’ll go away.” I said.
Louis nodded, and leaned back.
“We should be landing soon, and then we’re going to check into the hotel, you’ll be able to sleep there, and it’ll be more peaceful then sleeping on this plane. Niall’s a bit loud at times.” Louis stated.
I giggled, and closed my eyes again. Not to sleep, but to block out the light. My head was really sensitive.
“You really don’t look well, are you sure you’re okay?” Louis asked.
“I’m fine, really.” I said.
Louis nodded, and wrapped his arm around my shoulders. I snuggled my head into him, and he rubbed my arm gently.
“The screaming girls at the airport are really going to do a number on your head.” Louis stated.
I groaned, and Louis laughed.
The pilot came over the speaker, and told us to buckle up because we were about to land. Louis helped me with my seatbelt, and we slowly descended from the sky. When the plane landed, the boys all hurried off, but Louis stayed back with me.
Lou walked over to us.
“Louis, you go on with the other boys, I can take care of Macintosh from here.” She said.
“No, it’s really no trouble.” Louis said.
“Go on. Get her bags, and take them to the car, and I’ll just get her off the plane, and to the car without dying from your screaming little lovelies outside.” Lou said.
Louis nodded, and walked off the plane. I began walked slowly, and Lou grabbed my arm.
“Not so fast.” She said.
I whined a little, and spun around to face her.
“What now?” I groaned.
“I’m about to forbid you and him from hanging out if you can’t get yourself together.” Lou said.
“Seriously though, there is nothing going on. We just met yesterday. He’s a good friend, and I do not need you constantly telling me otherwise. I know what is going on, and there is nothing. I’m not going to ruin my job and his just to have a stupid little fling. Louis is an amazing guy, and we are just good friends.” I said.
Lou said nothing, and just escorted me off the plane.
We walked out to the car, and just as I got outside the door, Louis pulled me in, and covered my ears.
“Drive.” Harry said to the driver.
“How’s your head Macintosh?” Niall asked.
“I’ve felt better, but I guess I’ll live.” I stated.
“You guess?” Harry laughed.
“You know if I died I would blame it on you, because you jinxed me.” I said.
“Yeah, but it’s not like I killed you.” Harry said.
“Your jinx did.” I said.
“But you aren’t dead.” Harry stated.
“I know, but if die tonight, it’s your fault.” I stated.
“Sorry for killing you then.” Harry stated.
“It’s all good.” I smiled.
Harry laughed, and we all laughed along with him.
Louis still held me close to him, and rubbed my hair gently, trying to soothe my headache.
“You haven’t eaten today have you?” Niall asked.
“No.” I said.
“The girl’s hungry. Stop at a McDonalds, and get her like a burger or something.” Niall shouted to the driver.
All the boys placed their orders.
We pulled up to McDonalds, and got our food. The boys began to devour theirs, and I slowly picked at my chips.
“Eat, you’ll feel better.” Zayn said.
“I’m a vegetarian.” I stated.
Niall looked at me, with his mouth hanging open, and full of food.
“I don’t eat meat.” I said.
“You can have some of my chips then.” Louis said.
“No, I’m good with mine.” I said.
Louis shrugged, and continued eating. I ate my food too, and then we arrived at the hotel. We all piled out of the car, and Paul gave us our room keys.
Louis took my bags up to my room, and carried them in for me.
“Thanks Louis, but you don’t have to carry all my stuff everywhere, like I can do it on my own.” I said.
“It’s not a problem Macintosh.” Louis said.
“I know, but I don’t want you to like feel obligated to carry my stuff everywhere, like it’s okay if you don’t want to.” I said.
“But I do want to.” Louis stated.
I smiled, and he walked over to me.
“Goodnight then?” I asked.
“Or we could watch a movie?” Louis suggested.
I smiled, and walked over to the couch. Louis came with me, and sat next to me.
We flicked on the T.V., and Louis went through the stations, until we found a movie. It was a horror film, and Louis was quite surprised when I didn’t scream, and jump into his lap like a little baby.
“Not scared?” He asked laughing.
“Horror films are my entire existence.” I laughed.
He smiled, and we continued watching the movie. When it finished it was really late, and I was ready to crash.
Louis stood up from the couch, and made his way to the door. To be honest, I really didn’t want him to go, but I couldn’t ask him to stay.
I followed him to the door, and gave a quick hug goodnight.
“Lock the door.” Louis said.
I nodded, and he walked out. I closed the door behind him, and locked it, and then headed off to bed.
I climbed in, and called my mom.
“Hey sweetie.” She said.
“Hey mum.” I smiled.
“How’s America?” She asked.
“It’s pretty fun. I had a killer headache earlier, but I’m feeling better now. I just got through a horror movie with one of the guys, and he just left, so I’m getting ready to sleep.” I said.
“Well it sounds like you’re having a good time.” She said.
“Yeah, how are you and dad?” I asked.
“We’re doing just fine.” She said.
“Always good to hear.” I stated.
She laughed a little, and I sighed.
“Something on your mind?” My mom asked.
“Sort of.” I said.
“What’s up?” She asked.
“Well, I’ve been hanging out with one of the guys, that like I’m working for I guess, and like we’re really good friends, but the other stylist is like telling me he’s got feelings for me, and that I’m leading him on and all this stuff. I keep saying we are only friends, but like she seems to think there is something more. Like I could get fired, and he would be in a load of trouble, and neither of us are risking that.” I said.
“Just do what you think is right, and don’t listen to what the other people have to say. If you know two are just friends, then there shouldn’t be a problem.” My mom said.
I agreed, and then we said out goodnights. I hung up the phone, and crawled into bed. I was so tired, that when my head hit the pillow it was lights out.
I ran down the stairs, and pulled open the front door. Louis was waiting in his car, and I motioned for him to come inside.
He stepped out of his car, and made his way to my door.
