Chapter 1: You found me
My name is Macintosh Finn. Yeah, Macintosh like the apple. My parents chose the name, I didn’t. School was a rough patch for me, being named after an apple and all, but I didn’t really mind. It was unique, and so was I. Ever since I was a little girl, I had loved doing make-up, and when I got to college, I knew straight away I was going to cosmetology school.
I was about twenty, fresh out of school, when I booked my first job. I travelled for about nine months, around the world with Lady Gaga, doing her make-up, and the make-up of her dancers.
When her tour ended, I didn’t have any work, until I was called for an interview with Syco Management. They told me that one of their make-up artists went on maternal leave, and that they had an opening if I was interested for an interview.
There I was, a now twenty-one year old me, going to go on yet another interview. I stepped through the door, and hoped for the best.
The office was nice, there was a large mahogany table in the center of the room, and a very professional looking lady sitting behind it.
“You must be Miss Finn.” The lady said.
“Yes.” I stated, extending my hand.
We shared a firm handshake, and then I took a seat.
“My name is Ms. Taylor.” She said with a warm smile.
“Nice to meet you.” I said.
Ms. Taylor smiled again, and I grew a bit warm. I hadn’t been on an interview for quite a bit, and this was really working me up.
“Alright, so in your profile, we see that you have worked with Lady Gaga for about nine months, on tour?” She asked.
“That is correct.” I said.
“So time, it isn’t an issue for you. The people we are looking to contract you with are heading for an eight to ten month tour, dates are being added and what not, so the time is uncertain, but if we needed you, there would be no issue in getting you there?” She asked.
“Not at all, I’ve been hunting for a secure long term job for quite a bit now, so if I got this one, there would be no problems anywhere. I can be one hundred present yours.” I stated.
Ms. Taylor smiled, and continued on her questioning. She seemed to like me, and I was nearly certain I had the job, so it didn’t surprise me, when at the end of the interview she said it would a pleasure seeing me fresh on Monday.
I was glad to have booked the job, because I would be nowhere without it.
It was now bright and early Monday morning, and I was headed back to the studio where my interview was held, to meet the people I would be working with. They hadn’t told me in the interview, but they said it would be like nothing I had ever done, seeing as the person was a boy.
I pulled up to the studio, and hopped out of the car, walking inside slowly. To be honest I was really nervous. I didn’t want the person to dislike me, so I put on a brave smile, and walked in. The front desk lady gave me directions on where I needed to go, and I got there as soon as I could.
There was a lot of noise coming from the room. It sounded like people were running about, and shouting. I knocked at the door, and no one answered, so I just turned the knob and stepped in.
“Well it’s about time the new make-up girl got here; we go on in like twenty minutes.” One of the boys shouted.
It took me a minute, but I finally realized that I was going to be working with One Direction. Not just one boy, but five extremely attractive ones.
I cleared my throat, and stepped in further.
“Well don’t be shy.” The one who I believed was Harry said.
He walked straight up to me, and pulled me all the way into the room.
“I’m Harry.” He said.
“Louis!” Louis shouted from his position on the table.
“Liam.” Liam stated.
“Niall James Horan.” Niall said quite professionally, causing all the boys to crack up laughing.
“Zayn.” Zayn said with a small wave.
“I’m Macintosh.” I said.
“Like the apple?” Louis asked.
“Exactly like the apple.” I said.
All the boys sat and contemplated my name.
“That’s awesome.” Louis said with a smile.
“Thanks.” I grinned.
The first people to not totally go into a fit of laughter at the sound of my name. I liked them already.
“So, you are the new make-up girl?” Zayn asked.
“Looks that way. Sorry to disappoint.” I said.
“Not a disappointment at all.” Louis muttered more to Harry than me.
“Didn’t catch that sorry.” I said with a smirk.
Louis grinned, and hopped off the table. He waltzed over to me, and put his mouth right up to my ear.
“We’re going to get along just fine.” He whispered.
I laughed, and Ms. Taylor walked over to me.
“Your supplies are down the hall, in two suitcases. You may need to make two trips, but make it snappy. The boys need to get on stage in about ten minutes. You need to do a quick coat of cover-up but that’s pretty much it. Let the natural beauty shine through.” She said.
I nodded, and turned to get the suitcases. I heard walking behind me, and turned to see Liam and Louis following me.
“Don’t be so surprised a few gentleman are coming to help you with your bags.” Louis said with a smile.
“Well thank you.” I said.
Louis and Liam caught up to me, and grabbed the suitcases, lugging them back to the room.
When we got back, I set straight to work, matching the boy’s skin tones to the cover-up, while Lou Teasdale did their hair. I had met her at the interview, and she was very nice to me.
I finished up all the boys, and only had Louis left. I went to dab on the cover-up, and he bit my hand.
“Did you just bite me?” I said trying to laugh.
“I think.” Louis said.
“You think?” I asked.
“I can’t really remember.” Louis stated.
“Of course, like that ten seconds it really did a damper on your memory.” I giggled.
Louis smiled, and his eyes shined.
“You’re very pretty.” Louis said.
Lou Teasdale shot him a look.
“What did I do?” Louis asked.
“That’s not allowed.” Lou replied.
“What? I can’t compliment people?” Louis asked.
“Not someone you work with.” Lou said.
“I didn’t ask to run off and get married now did I?” Louis joked.
I laughed, and continued applying his make-up.
“You’re still pretty.” Louis whispered.
“Thanks.” I whispered back.
I finished up on Louis, and the boys were walking out the door.
“Do I look pretty Mac?” Louis asked.
“Like a fairy.” I stated.
Louis twirled around, and Harry pushed him out the door. I laughed, and began cleaning up my little station. Lou cleared her throat loudly, and I turned to face her.
“Don’t let him get you going.” Lou said.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“Don’t get all flirty with him.” Lou said.
“I was not flirting.” I stated.
“You were, and you two cannot be doing that. This is a business, and you cannot date your client, or your coworker.” Lou stated.
“Who said we were dating? We don’t like each other, I just met him today, I’ve known him for all of like twenty minutes.” I said.
“He clearly wants something from you, and you need to keep it professional.” Lou said.
“I will.” I stated.
Lou nodded, and we both went back to cleaning up.
I did not have feelings for Louis. We just met today, and he was just a goofy guy. I barely knew anything about him, and he was harmlessly flirting. It wasn’t a big deal. I was a new girl, and he was a guy, I mean it was bound to happen.
I won’t deny that I think Louis is absolutely gorgeous, but kill me. Every girl on the planet will agree.
After about a half hour, the boys came running into the room, being loud as ever. I closed up my bags, and got ready to leave, seeing as I was done for today. As I was walking out the door, Paul handed me a plane ticket.
“We’re going to America tomorrow. Plane leaves at about eight in the morning so get to the airport at around six. We’ll all be there. Try and stay away from the fans, as fresh meat, they’ll eat you alive.” Paul said smiling at the last part.
I grinned, and took the ticket. I then grabbed my bags again, and headed out the door.
“Wait up!” Louis shouted from behind me.
I turned around, and waited for him to catch up.
“You’re coming to America with us?” He asked.
“Seems that way.” I smiled.
“Good, I want to get to know you better. I hope you break out of your shell, we can be like the dynamic duo.” Louis laughed.
I laughed with him, and totally forgot everything Lou had said to me. Louis clearly just wanted a little prank buddy, and no one would suspect the new girl, he needed a playmate, and he wanted me to be it. That was all.
“You boys seem to have a good laugh.” I said.
“We do, and now you are going to be here to join us. I’m glad we got a young one; they were trying to give us like a forty year old. That would be a snore.” Louis said.
I giggled, and Louis smiled.
“Want me to pick you up tomorrow morning, and we can drive to the airport together? I won’t kidnap you I swear.” Louis said.
“Yeah sure.” I said.
I gave Louis my address and number, and then he helped bring my bags to the car. After I was situated, Louis and I said our goodbyes, and I drove home.
Once I got there, I lugged myself inside, and got to packing my bags. I went straight to bed after though, I had a long day, and I needed to be up early tomorrow, and I needed a good long sleep.
