"Aubs, what's wrong?" Harry asks me when we get onto the elevator at the hospital. I finally get to see my mom now that she will be okay.

"Nothing, I'm just glad she's okay." I smile and lean into him. I'm still so happy we worked things out, otherwise I'd be lost.

"Me too." He says as we got off at the fourth floor.

I feel nervous walking to the room where my mother is staying, and I couldn't tell you why. Maybe it's because I was so close to losing her, I'm just afraid that this is all too good to be true.

"Oh, hey Aubrey." We catch my dad walking down the hall.

"Hi dad." I smile and give him the biggest hug in years. I can see the relief in his expression; he's smiled more in the last few minutes than he had in the last week.

"Mom's waiting to see you." He smiles and shows me to her room.

I think Harry notices my raising nerves when he gives my hand a gentle squeeze like he's showing me he's here for me.

"I'll give you a minute." Harry whispers to me when we reach the door.

"No, please stay."

"Are you sure you?"

"Yes," I nod and grab his hand again. I need him here.


"Mom!" I can't help the tears falling from my eyes when I see her laying there smiling. I am just so relieved to see her okay.

"Sweetie, come here." She smiles and holds her arms out.

I walk over and sit next to her on the hospital bed. I have no idea how that woman stayed on this thing for so many days, it's terribly uncomfortable.

"How are you, Aubs?" She asks after our long hug.

"Much better now. But I hate you." I laugh through my tears if happiness.

"I'm sorry hun, I told you I would be okay though, didn't I?"

"Well yeah, but you scared me and dad."

"I know, but I'm okay, it's all good. Now tell me about England you two."

"It's really good." I tell her and smile at Harry.

"How are you, Harry? You taking care of our girl?" My mom asks him.

"Of course, Claire. It's good to see that you're okay." He responds.

"I wasn't ready to go yet." She smiles and wraps her arm around me.

"Neither were we." I say and my phone begins to ring. I would ignore it, but it's the ringtone I have just for Sophie, and I haven't talked to her in ages. "I'll be right back." I walk out of the room before I answer the phone.

"Sophie!" I say into the phone.

"Aubrey, please tell me you're still in New York?" She practically yells over the phone.

"Yeah, why?"

"Is your mom okay?"

"She's going to be okay," I smile every time i say that. "But why did you want to know if I was still here?"

"Because I'm visiting my aunt in New Jersey and I need to see you! I haven't seen you since you and Harry moved off to Europe!"

"Oh my god! Are you really? We have to meet up!"

My day keeps getting better and better. First Harry and I worked things out, the good news of my mom, and now I get to see my best friend for the first time in a month.

"I can get there in a few hours, are you free?"

"Yeah! Just call me when you're coming, I can text you the address of my parents' condo."

"Perfect, AHH! I'm so excited to see you Aubs! Okay I have to go, I'll talk to you later!"

"Bye, Soph!

I walk back into the room with a big smile on my face when I sit next to Harry.

"Who was it?" My mom asks before anyone else beats her to it.

"Sophie, she's in New Jersey so we're meeting up later."

"Oh that's great!" My mom says just as a doctor walks into the room.

"Sorry for interrupting," he smiles. "You must be Aubrey, I've heard a lot about you." He turns to me and shakes my hand.

"Well Claire, good news! We're letting you out of here tomorrow!" The doctor turns to my parents.

"It's about time." My dad mutters and we all laugh.

"We just need to run a few more tests and then you're good."

"Well Harry and I should probably go, we'll come back tomorrow though." I announce.

We all hug and say our goodbyes before the doctor takes my mom to another room.

"I'll walk you two out," my dad offers when she's gone.

"So I take it you and Harry have worked everything out?" My dad asks me as we walk outside, Harry is only a few feet back but he can't hear.

"Yeah," I tell him. "Thanks for convincing me to talk to him."

"I just don't want to see you getting hurt, sweetie. Alright say hi to Sophie for me, I love you." He stops when we get to the doors.

"Love you too, dad." He kisses the top of my head before Harry and I walk back to the car.


When we get into his car, I let out a long sigh of relief, physically feeling the weight of everything dissolve from my shoulders. It feels incredibly good to be happy for once.

"Feeling better?" Harry asks as he pulls onto the road, taking my hand and resting our laced fingers in his lap.

"Much." I exhale. "Do you want to come with me to see Sophie? I think we're going to that cafe down the street from my parents."

"No, you two should get some time."

"I don't want to leave you alone though, what are you going to do?"

"I'll find something to do." He smiles. "It's okay, I'm sure you're sick of me by now anyway."

"Never." I laugh.

When we return to the house, I quickly change and touch up my makeup. Harry has assured me he will be fine alone for a few hours while I meet Sophie before I leave.
