When We Fall

Chapter 2

“Get up now Colin! I’m serious!” Cassidy had been trying to for ten minutes now on getting her teenage brother out of bed and ready for school. Nobody could be late today. It her first day at the Payne house and needed to be on time, if not early. She had already been up for two hours making sure her outfit looked nice, homework was done and breakfast was ready.

“Go away Cassie, I’m staying home,” he grumbled under the covers.

“Lies. You only say that because mum is gone. Get up now Colin, I’m serious,” she yelled at him. He climbed out of bed and sleepily walked over to the closet.

“Thank you! Lord heavens.” Cassidy threw her hands up as she walked out of the room. She spent all day yesterday cleaned the entire apartment from top to bottom. The amount of dirt, dust and other foreign subjects that covered the living room was gross. Her mother was a complete slob.

“Alright, get your shoes on. We are out of here,” she ordered to the three.

“I’m hungry,” Maggie whine as she slid on her trainers.

“Have no fear. I made breakfast wraps; we will eat them on the tube. Now come on.” Cassidy pushed all of them out of the door and checked her watch. She had ninety minutes to drop off three kids and get herself to Brentford. Possible, but it would more than likely be her sprinting down the road to the Payne house.

----

“Love you sweet girl, see you after school.” Cassidy quickly gave her little Maggie a peak on the cheek before letting her free in the school yard and heading back down three blocks to hop on the tube again. The bitter April morning made her shiver, along with the nerves she had about going back to her job. Gray was such a cool girl, Cassidy could really feel that she was a down to earth kind of person. She barely got to speak with Liam, but hoped they would get along. He seemed to be a very protective kind of person so she hoped it wouldn’t be too awkward around them.

“Brentford in fifteen minutes.” The computer generated voice came through the speakers. Looks like a sprint was in her future. Hopefully she could run six blocks without completely vomiting on the way. The train pulled up into station and she immediately jumped up.

“Excuse me, pardon me please.” Cassidy pushed and shoved her way through the crowd and ran up the stairs. Six minutes to go, totally do able. She quickly tightened her purse around her body and took off. The cold air burned her lungs badly making her eyes water but it felt somewhat like fun. Anything to do with sports wasn’t her thing but running like all hell broke loose was growing on her. She had three blocks to go though when the fun stopped. Her legs burned along with her chest and she felt the need to cough up everything in her stomach for the next half an hour. She should really work out more. Cassidy flew up the steps of the house and slid through the door.

“Whoa there killer.” The voice made her stop in her tracks and looked. Gray, Liam and Harry stood in the hallway staring at her with wide eyes.

“Oh gosh, I do apologize. I had to get my sister to school and the crowds were horrid,” Cassidy apologized wishing she could redo that moment. Her first day on the job and she practically knocked down all of them by running into the house.

“Think you are ok girl, the clock just turned,” Gray laughed at her walking away. Cassidy followed the group into the kitchen and kept her head down.

“Bye baby,” Liam whispered to Gray. He bent down kissing her on the lips making Cassidy feel uncomfortable. A normal person would usually look away but she couldn’t. It was so sweet and sincere to her, almost unreal.

“Bye jailbait, see you tonight.” Liam and Harry left out the side door leaving just the girls in the kitchen.

“Alrighty, Spence is asleep, she usually gets up around eleven. Treats and food are in the pantry. Otherwise, as long as she doesn’t die we should be good to go,” Gray announced.

“Yes ma’am,” Cassidy nodded to her. Gray spun around and gave her a weird look.

“Ma’am? Just Gray girl. Geesh, you need to loosen up. No need to be so formal,” Gray told her. Cassidy gave her a small smile. Non formal wasn’t her style when it came to working. Cassidy liked to smile and be happy but work is work. You work for money not emotions.

“Sorry.” Gray laughed and waved her off before grabbing her things.

“Liam may beat me home with his band of buffoons, so don’t let them intimidate you. I promise they are really good guys,” Gray told her as she headed for the door. Cassidy’s stomach flipped yet again. She wondered if that meant Niall was coming back.

“Have fun, ok? Watch TV, hang out. I promise I won’t get mad. Bye Cass.” She waved as she left leaving Cassidy standing alone by the door. Now what to do? It felt weird being in such a strange and large place. The silence almost made her weary. Back at home you could hear creaks and voices all night long, but it was soothing to Cassidy. It meant she wasn’t dead or falling into the abyss. She had to create some sort of noise before she lost it.

Cooking. Cooking and music. If a bunch of boys were coming back this afternoon she might as well make them something. Cassidy dug through the cupboards amazed at how much food they could possibly have. Fifteen people could have lived here comfortably. Nothing said comfort food like home made noodles.

----

The shrill of Spencer crying upstairs made Cassidy come off of her cooking high. The cooking was currently a mess but nothing she couldn’t handle. She quickly wiped off her hands and hurried upstairs to the crying child.

“Hey there Spencer. Shh, don’t cry you are okay,” she cooed while picking up the child. Spencer calmed down in her arms and went back to sucking on her fingers. It made Cassidy laugh, Maggie did the same thing when she was a baby and still sucked her thumb after all these years. She laid her down, quickly changing her pants and making sure she was warm enough. Babies had to be the easiest to take care of. They loved you unconditionally, trusted you and never back talked.

“You hungry? I bet you are. Your mom says you get cereal and food, got any favorites,” she asked while they walked back down the stairs. Cassidy secured her in the high chair before heading over to the cupboards.

“Pick a flavor Spence. We have applesauce or pears. I’m thinking pears, definitely a spring fruit.” The baby giggled back at her letting spit get all over her mouth. Cassidy threw on her bib and sat down on the stool in front of her.

“Alright, open up. Time to enjoy the meal I slaved over,” she joked. They sat together making faces as Spencer took one spoonful after another. The satellite radio still played on the counter making Cassidy feel relaxed. Even such a large space, it was so welcoming. She wished her family life was like this.

“All done my dear. Let’s clean you up so I can finish the mess I made.” She threw some toys on the high chair pad before going back to her cooking. One of Colin’s favorite meals was noodles with sausage. Possibly the easiest thing you could make since it always tasted good. Cassidy boiled up the fresh noodles and picked up the rest of the kitchen making sure everything was clean before mixing her concoction up in the crock pot. The kitchen was back to be shiny and the smell made its way through the house. Cassidy picked up the child and headed to the great TV room upstairs. It felt wrong to sit and relax on the job, but Gray said to and she couldn’t go back on her boss’s orders. They sat on the couch together but Spencer wasn’t having it. Tears and screams started to come out of her mouth as soon as Cassidy’s hand grabbed the remote.

“What’s a matter baby?” She tried holding her different, laying her on the couch, nothing seemed to work. Spencer’s pants were clean and she had just ate so that wasn’t the issue.

“Oh you gonna take me home tonight. Oh down beside that red fire light,” Cassidy begun the words slowly. Spencer seemed to stop and stared up at her face.

“Oh you gonna let it all hang out, fat bottomed girl you make that rocking world go round.” The words sung out slowly, almost taking such a popular song and turning it into a slow ballad. At least it calmed down Spencer. She nestled into the crook of Cassidy’s neck as she kept going. Cassidy turned on the TV to a low murmur as she continued on with the song. Maggie always loved to dance this to this song as a kid. They used to jump and wail all over the place.

“Fat bottomed girls you make that rocking world go round.” Her voice trailed off hearing Cassidy’s faint snores below her ear.

“Really, you just woke up forty five minutes ago. Let’s hope your mum doesn’t yell at me for this,” she whispered to the baby. Cassidy laid her head back against the comfy couch and closed her eyes.

“Did you just make Fat Bottomed Girls a ballad?” The voice scared belief. Her huge body jumped sending Spencer’s limp head off her shoulder. Cassidy quickly recovered and turned to glare at the person who just made her almost pee her pants.

“Are you freaking crazy! Jesus!” Oh god, it was him. Niall. He was the boy to scare her half to death.

“Sorry, I didn’t realize you had her with you,” he apologized, his eyes twinkling at her.

“It’s-it’s fine, you just scared me that’s all. What are you doing here,” she asked. It felt weird speaking him from the couch but her body was jello right now. He was even cuter the before.

“I came to nap but you beat me to it. Rest of the guys are downstairs. Did you make food?” Cassidy giggled at him.

“That I did. I’ll come down and show you.” She carefully lifted herself and Spencer off the couch and walked in front of him. The small amount of wind blew his smell to her. It smelled amazing, a mixture of apples and some sort of forest. She prayed her legs wouldn’t give out right now. At least not in front of him and not while Spencer was in her arms. They walked down the staircase quietly and Niall’s arm kept running into hers. She wondered if it was on purpose or not. He was messing her with brain more then she had liked. If they kept up this way it could be trouble.

“Found her,” Niall announced as they got to the bottom of the stairs. The four remaining boys looked up from the kitchen at them.

“Gray, did you cook,” Harry asked with excited eyes.

“I did, just something easy. You all can dig in if you’d like.” She walked them into the kitchen. They looked at the pot like it was some sort of golden egg.

“She cooks! You must keep her, honestly Liam,” a boy with shaggy hair yelled to him.

“Hi, I’m Louis and I like you. You cook,” he announced to her.

“Well I am glad I could help. Honestly eat.” She didn’t have to tell them twice before all were fighting over the ladle. They all filled their plates full before spreading out through the kitchen. Liam and Harry, along with the dark haired boy sat at the table. Louis didn’t even more, he just started eating right by the pot and Niall took the chair next to her at the breakfast bar.

“Girl, you really can cook, this is amazing,” The dark haired boy commented. Liam slugged him in the arm quickly.

“Her name is Cassidy, get some manners Zayn,” he growled at him. Zayn, the new boy, gave her a small smile back.

“It’s my brother’s favorite meal so easy enough to make. The homemade noodles were just an added touch,” she explained. Niall made a noise next to her. She couldn’t figure out if it was a groan or he was actually choking.

“Wait, you made your own noodles? Like out of flour,” he asked her. The look on his face made her want to laugh. She had never met someone so serious about food like him.

“I did, it’s actually quite easy.” Niall quickly jumped from his chair and wrapped his arms around her. Cassidy immediately felt alarmed. Hugging was a no go area, especially with sleeping Spencer still on her shoulder. His hands tingled along her back, almost liked the outlines of his hands were leaving their marks on her skin. Shirt or no shirt she could still feel him.

“Niall! Come on get off the poor girl, she doesn’t even know you yet,” Liam laughed from the side of the table. His arms came off her body fast and he had a sheepish smile. Cassidy could see the red tint in his cheeks. She looked down quickly hoping he didn’t notice the same on her face.

“So Cass, is it true you really don’t know much about is,” Louis asked, still going to town on his food.

“Somewhat. We don’t have cable or internet at home. My sister Maggie likes to sing along to your records on the radio and I’ve seen you pop up here and there around town,” she explained. They all looked at her with motionless expressions.

“Wow, you live a basic life,” Harry told her. Oh if she could only tell them the truth. That their mother would rather spend money on booze then simple luxuries like TV. Cassidy thought about getting it for her family, but saving money was more important.

“It’s cheap and simple,” she shrugged.

“No internet on your phone even,” Liam asked nicely as he ran water over his dishes.

“I have a celly, just a regular flip phone.” She balanced Spencer with one hand and reached into her back pocket.

“Oh your poor girl, you need to upgrade,” Louis laughed looking over it. Cassidy laughed and rolled her eyes at him. She turned her attention to the food simmering in the crock pot.

“Did you guys eat it all? I can quick make some more,” Cassidy offered.

“No love, we are good. I can take her if you want to go,” Liam offered. She took a quick peek at the clock on the wall. 2:45 already!

“That would be lovely, I’ll be back tomorrow.” Liam grabbed the sleeping infant while Cassidy scooped up her coat and purse. She felt the five sets of eyes staring at her, but she kept her head down while buttoning everything up.

“Good night,” she smiled as she walked to the door.

“Cass, did you need a ride? Niall can take you,” Liam offered. Her eyes immediately shot the blonde next to him. He had a weird expression on his face to the point that she couldn’t read him. He almost looked confused but holding his breath. Whatever it was made a clear sign to Cassidy.

“No thank you. See you all later.” She quickly walked out of the house and down the road before anyone else could ask her questions. Why did he look like that? She was never good at picking up signals, and that even went for normal conversations with people. Cassidy was just a serious person. She thought she saw something with Niall though. The way he sat by her, found her on the couch and walked so close behind her, and the hug. The hug was a lot. She shuddered just thinking about it. Another careless mistake in the mind of Cassidy Truex. Niall liked her for the food, and that was all.

----

“Colin, come get the door,” she shouted through the apartment hall. Cassidy’s hands were filed with every junk food she could find at the store. On a whim she decided to stop for treats. The three of them had been so good lately, even being home alone. Cassidy was lucky, she knew that. Any other seventeen year old boy would want nothing to do with his family, let alone be a babysitter but Colin was different. The four of them had a bond that was stronger than most families. They watched out for each other and protected each other. She knew she could leave Maggie and Ben in his hands without worrying about what happened. Thankfully they both had phones to communicate with.

“You buy the whole store,” he asked as he opened the door. The smirk on his face was nice, Cassidy knew he loved to pig out like the rest of them.

“We needed a feast, get some plates will you?” Maggie and Ben cheered from the living room floor as she threw down the bags of goodies. Immediately they both raced for the huge bag of M&M’s.

“Eat slowly, you cannot stay home from school tomorrow with a stomach ache.” Cassidy gave them both a smile and sat down between them. This was heaven to her. With their mom gone doing whatever it was, they felt calm and at ease.

“What are we watching,” she asked, checking out the cartoon on the screen.

“Tom and Jerry, Colin let me choose this time,” Maggie told her as she sat up proudly. Gosh she was such a sweet girl. With everything they had been through she always stayed sweet. It was like the effect of their situation didn’t even pierce her happy bubble. It made Cassidy felt more than happy, if they could escape this while Maggie was still herself it would be a great day.

“Cassie, why doesn’t Mum love us?” She turned slowly to her youngest brother, staring at him with wide eyes. Ben was the complete opposite of Maggie. He took everything to heart and was very emotional for an eight year old boy. Every time their mum was mean, he was the one who got upset first. Cassidy spent so many hours calming him down. He just worried so much, too much for a child. It killed her inside.

“I think she loves us in her own way, it’s just hard for her to show,” she explained. Colin snorted his to him, but she chose to ignore it. He could care less about his mum, and made that very clear.

“She used to love us. I remember when she did,” Ben told her.

“You are right, she did love us back then, but you were very small and Maggie was still just a little girl.” Cassidy didn’t know else to tell him.

“I don’t want to live here anymore Cassie,” he cried to her. She quickly moved closer to him and wrapped him up in his arms. Poor Ben, this had to have been bothering him for quite some time.

“Don’t cry Benny, ok? I know, I don’t want to live here but one day we will move. I promise we will get out of here. That’s why I work so hard, to make sure all of us can stay together. I love you Ben, and Colin and Maggie too and will always be here for you,” Cassidy reassured him, hugging his small body tight into hers. It killed her inside to see him so upset. She wished she could just snap her fingers and get out of here, but things weren’t that simple. Even with the money she already had, the matter came down to the courts. Her mum received benefits from the country for these children and would not go easily into letting Cassidy have full custody. It would be a fight but when the time came, Cassidy was ready to duke it out with her mum.

“Now let’s enjoy your night ok? We will eat and laugh and then head to bed. Did you all get your home work done,” Cassidy asked, wanting to change the subject. All three heads shook up and down back at her.

“Terrific, Colin hit the volume. I bet you all Tom finally catches Jerry this episode,” she smiled at her brother and sister.

“No! Tom never catches him,” Maggie laughed back at her.

“Nope nope. I’m older then you, I KNOW Tom catches him,” Cassidy laughed. Humor always went a long way with her family, it could defuse situations so fast. Maggie jumped up and curled into her lap on the floor while Ben cuddled into her side more. Cassidy gave them both a kiss before turning her attention back to the feisty cat and mischievous mouse. This was her family, always.

----

“Alright Miss Spencer, you have a good nap and I will see you after,” Cassidy whispered to her as she turned off the light and grabbed the monitor from the dresser. This was the first full day of her shift at their home. Both Gray and Liam planned to be gone until at least five that night, possibly a little later. She had already made it through two meals, one extremely gross diaper and now putting Spencer down for nap number two. She felt more comfortable there now, almost like she was accepted into their crazy life style. Even though they were famous people, they were still real and down to earth. Gray was fun and so laid back, but Liam still was a bit weird to be around. He smiled and was nice, but very serious most of the time. His mouth was always in a straight line like he was frowning at everything. Cassidy made sure to give him his space and gravitate towards Gray inside. As for the rest of the men that always seemed to be at their house, they hadn’t been back since the awkward hug she shared with Niall two days ago. It probably was a good thing since he liked to mess with her feelings. At least the weekend was coming, two days with the kids and not her mum sounded amazing.

Cassidy left quietly out of Spencer’s room and headed down the long hall. At this point, she was out of things to do. The downstairs was clean, another meal thrown together in the oven and Spencer was asleep. A wide smile came over her face, time to rest and enjoy some TV. She walked into the big game room and looked for the remote. They had to have at least five of them in here alone, but the long gray one for the television was missing. Where could it be? Her hands dug through each of the couches with no luck, it had to be somewhere in the entertainment system. Cassidy got on her hands and knees and started looking through the mess of devices down below. One caught her eye though, a red Wii. She had heard about these people, it was the new craze in video games. Colin and Ben had played it at the store one day, but really Cassidy never had seen it in action. She remembered hearing about how you have to literally move to make it work, which sounded completely weird to her.

“Do you always stare at Wii’s?” The voice made her jump and hit her head on the end of the entertainment center.

“Oh shit, sorry did I scare you again?” Cassidy looked behind her shoulder to see Niall standing in the doorway. Oh man. She quickly stood up and rubbed her head hoping she wasn’t blushing.

“You did. Do you always do that to people,” she asked. He walked quickly around the couch and stood in front of her. Cassidy didn’t realize he was that in fact taller than her. She already knew Liam and Harry were, just because they were giants but it was surprising to see Niall. He was so short for a guy.

“Not usually, but I must have that effect on you,” he smiled at her. Cassidy quickly looked away, not wanting to get caught in his eyes.

“I was looking for the remote actually,” Cassidy told him.

“Have you ever played,” he asked, motioning to the Wii on the shelf.

“No, my brothers have before but I haven’t. I’ve seen it on commercials though.” She wanted to hit herself in the face, that come out way to desperate.

“Is Spencer sleeping,” he asked. Cassidy nodded her head not wanting to say anything else stupid. Niall walked over and shut the door before grabbing the assortment of remotes on the stand and turning everything on. To be honest, it was like magic to Cassidy. He effortlessly clicked buttons making everything in the room turn on. There was no way she would ever be able to remember that all.

“We will start you off easy with golf. Give me your hand,” he ordered. His finger held open the small wrist strap as she slipped it in. It felt like her lungs were filled with concrete. Niall’s fingers brushed the inside of her wrist making shivers run down her spine.

“For safety,” his voice whispered as his eyes stared into hers. Cassidy wished deep inside that could capture this moment forever. It was probably the fastest her heart had ever beaten in her life. It was scary yet exhilarating all in the same time.

“Now golf is very easy. Get in your stance, eyes on the screen and swing away,” he told her ask he stepped back giving her some space. Gray looked at them then back at the screen. It seemed easy enough. She opened her feet wider and place the controller in front of her waist. It felt very weird and stupid, but Gray went with it. Video games were supposed to be like that. Cassidy arms swung back and shot to the forth, the TV had make believe boo’s blaring through the speaker while Niall laughed uncontrollably next to her.

“That is the worse golf swing ever. It’s not softball,” he joked at her. Cassidy rolled her eyes.

“You know, you laugh like a gerbil. And why are you here anyway,” she spat at him. She tried not to get so defensive, but after he laughed at her who could she not.

“Gerbil? Nice, that’s a new one. Calm down now and breathe. And stop being so defensive, here let me show you.” Niall walked behind her. It was close, but there was still enough room to keep it on the platonic side.

“Move your feet in and put your arms in front again,” he ordered. She followed his rules and squeezed her feet closer.

“Straighter back now when you bend. It’s all about the back swing; if you lose control there the shot is gone. Swing strong both ways.” She looked behind her shoulder to see his eyes staring back at her. It was quite possible that her heart could burst right now.

“Stop staring at me and swing Cassie,” he laughed at her. She quickly looked down and focused on the task at hand. After one big breath, she kept her arms straight and swung. The make believe ball flew in the sky on the TV and landed close to the hole.

“Yes!” She cheered throwing her hands up in the air. Niall laughed behind her and gave her a high five.

“See, golf is fun. My turn.” She briefly stepped out of his way and watched him from behind. His green shirt stretched tight over his shoulder making Cassidy feel extremely giddy. She knew he was hot, more than hot. She just couldn’t figure out why he always seemed to pop up around her.

“So why are you here,” she asked breaking the silence. Niall took his shot and faced her.

“I had free time so I came over.”

“Do you do that a lot? Come to Liam and Gray’s,” she asked. It sounded weird to her. Normal people just don’t show up unannounced.

“Yup. I even have a key. My family doesn’t live around here so they let me barge in whenever I want,” he explained.

“Oh. Where is your family,” Cassidy asked. Niall looked at her again with one of those thousand dollar smiles. Those could do some serious damage to her.

“Ireland. Did you know I am Irish?” His smile made her roll her eyes. Of course, she did ask him a stupid question.

“I understand, I understand,” she laughed back. They switched spots as it was her turn. She knew nothing about golf and had no clue who was winning but it didn’t matter to her. It just felt natural being there with him.

“Do they know you are here bugging me,” she asked as she swung.

“Probably. I told Liam before I left I was coming over. I have to go back in an hour but figured I might as well stop by.” Gray’s kept the millions of other questions in her head to herself. Did he come here to visit her? Did Gray want him to discreetly check up on Spencer? Did he look for her right away or just had a habit of coming up here? It killed her not to ask but less is more. She didn’t need to sound like stalker today.

“Last shot Cassie, better make it worth it,” he smiled to her. She positioned herself in front of the TV and straightened her arms. Her swing went with flying colors making the ball on the screen fly into the whole. The fake crowd on the TV cheered. She looked back at Niall for some clarification.

“Shit that isn’t fair,” he groaned. What happened?

“You got a hole in one. That is some shit beginner’s luck!” Cassidy laughed at him, apparently she did win.

“Did you need something to eat before you left,” she offered as he turned off the TV.

“You are a good cook, but I cannot make you do that. Besides Liam would beat me if I let you cook again,” Niall told her. He stood in the doorway and nodded his head at her. It was a signal to follow. They walked quietly past Spencer’s room and headed down the stairs to the kitchen. She stood awkwardly by the sliding glass door as he dug through the fridge and cupboards.

“Do you miss your family,” she asked him. It was probably too impersonal but the curiosity was killing her.

“Course. What about you family, tell me about them.” He poured himself a big glass of milk and grabbed a bag of Oreos from the pantry.

“I see mine every day. I live with them.”

“Brother or sisters? Maybe a gerbil,” he asked trying to hide a smile.

“No pets. I have three younger siblings,” she told him. Niall waved his hand at her asking for more information while he drank his milk.

“Colin and Ben, and a sister named Maggie.”

“Cassie do I make you nervous,” Niall asked after he came up from his milk glass.

“No, why do you say that,” she responded. All in all it was a lie. He made her incredibly nervous, happy and fearful all at the same time.

“You couldn’t get any closer to the door right now. You know you are more than welcomed to come sit by me,” he offered, patting the chair next to him. Cassidy took the careful steps and joined him in the chair.

“Good girl. What about your parents,” Niall said.

“Mum only, she.. she works a lot. I never met my father,” she told him. It was true. Cassidy and Colin shared the same dad, he was barely in their lives, only coming over for a quickie a couple of nights a month with Linda. He would always be gone by the time Cassidy woke up in the morning.

“Cookie?” He held up the black and white cookie to her. Cassidy smiled, thank god he was changing the subject right now.

“No thank you, I don’t really like them.” Niall’s eyes got big and held his free hand to his heart.

“Oreo’s are the cookie of the universe. How could you not like these,” he exclaimed.

“Not a chocolate fan,” Cassidy simply told him. Chocolate always made her gag. She would take a piece of cheesecake over them any day.

“They make vanilla ones, I’ll bring you some.” He quickly finished the rest of his milk and wiped his face on the back of his arm. All Cassidy to do was stare. She knew she shouldn’t but it was just so easy. Her eyes seemed to be glued to him any time they were in the same room together. Niall was her magnet.

“I have to get back, thanks for the game. One day I will rematch you,” he smiled.

“Yeah.. bye.” She turned her eyes back down to the table. It felt like a quick dream. His hands lowered to her shoulders, squeezing lightly. Cassidy felt the air get caught in her throat. She closed her mouth just to make sure she wouldn’t start coughing. What was he doing?

“See you later Cassie,” he whispered. His voice tickled the inside of her ear and make her shiver. Within seconds though, he was across the room. Niall smiled at her once more before leaving. What in the hell just happened? There is no way that it wasn’t at dream at this point. She threw her hands on the counter and dramatically laid her head down. Why did he have such an effect on her? Do other people act like this too? It had been a normal day before he swooped in like usual. This was the second time now that Niall came around making her feel all sorts of different and mixed up emotions. She really didn’t even think he knew what he was doing to her either. Niall was a guy, guys barely realize what they are doing most of the time. Their idea of flirting was sex while women could see flirting without even talking. This is was, she knew it. Cassidy was misreading him. There were no feelings from him, he was just being a friendly guy. That’s it. Yet, if that’s it though, why did she wish it was more?

“Enough!” She shouted at herself and got up quickly out of the chair. No more. Over thinking came so easy to her and she needed to stop. Take things day by day and just stop. Life is what is it is, she had to play everything by ear and just realize when she was at their house, now she just wished she could do that at home too.
