They Don't Know About Us

Chapter 18

*Harry's P.O.V*
“I don't know about this...” I spoke skeptically to Katie as we sat in the living room. Justice had classes today giving me time to plan out our first date as a couple.
Katie rolled her eyes annoyed, “I'm telling you if you take Justice on some fancy date where she has to dress up at a restaurant whose name you can't even pronounce, she will insult your unborn children.” I frowned at her response. Insulting children was a little fetch. Justice was too nice for that. “Trust me, this is exactly what she would tell you if you asked what her perfect date is.”
“Okay, but if she kills me I'm taking you down with me.” I warned. The ginger girl wasn't too bad. She reminded me of Louis in the sense that she had no filter when it came to saying what was on her mind.
“You'll think me after you get laid,” Katie mused. “Now go get ready before she gets back.” She urged looking at the clock. I nodded walking to Justice's room in time to hear the front door open. Katie immediately got her back out of the apartment with promises of shopping and letting her pick out whatever she wanted. I was supposed get dressed, meet them at the mall where Katie would convince Justice to buy a new outfit and change into it, and then I would surprise her and we would go on our date.
So over an hour later I grabbed the keys to Justice's car, which Katie managed to snatch and toss on the table like she said she would, and plugged in the location for the mall in my mobile GPS. Silently I prayed no one would recognize me although I was dressed like my usual self in black jeans and a black button down.
Katie: Heading towards the fountain. Prepare to be amazed.
I looked around until I spotted the fountain and my way towards it. It didn't take long for a few fans to notice me. I quickly signed merch and posed for pictures. Once I was done I spotted my new red head friend walking in my direction towing along my beautiful girlfriend. A smile took over my looks as I took in her appearance. When Justice noticed me surprise was clear on her features.
“What are you doing here?” She laughed coming into my arms for a hug. “Not that I'm not happy to see you.” She quickly added realizing that her questioned was a tad rude.
I chuckled, “We are going on a date.” I responded stealing glance at Katie who wore a knowing smile as she slipped away. I mouthed a thank you to her and she shrugged her shoulders silently saying it wasn't a problem.
Justice looked back, frowned, and slowly turned back to face me. “I was going to say that I can't leave Kates alone... but... she left?” Her nose scrunched up and her mouth pulled to the left in her trademark confused facial expression. “I feel like I'm missing something.” She said scratching the back of her head.
“Let's go,” I took her hand and pulled her towards the exit. “There was an eight year old girl who saw me and I swear she's summoning a squad.” I joked as we walked out of the mall.
Justice laughed, “We wouldn't want that.” We arrived at her car and she eyed me curiously when I opened the passenger door for her. “You're driving?” She asked with a hint of worry.
“Yeah,” I nodded still holding the door open.
“You don't know anything about Alabama.” She shook her head and folded her arms across her chest. I don't think she realized that every time she did that it just brought more attention to her breasts.
A sneaky smile coated my lips, “Give me some credit. What type of boyfriend would I be if I didn't take the time to learn something about my girlfriend's home?” She wasn't buying it. “Especially when she knows so much about mine,” I added shifting my weight to my right leg as I was getting tired of holding the door open. Her face remained expressionless. “Katie helped me,” I mumbled. “Now let's go.” Justice laughed stepping forward and finally getting in the car.

*Justice's P.O.V*
“Just tell me where we're going,” I bargained while teasing rubbing Harry's arm as he held the steering wheel with a deathly grip and continued to drive. We were no longer in Florence so I knew whatever he had planned wasn't taking place in my college town.
“No, and if you continue to do that, then I'm going to crash and we'll die.” He responded looking over at me before quickly refocusing on the road. Looking him over, he was dressed semi-casual, which let me know that we weren't going somewhere ridiculously fancy. I was not a five star restaurant type of girl.
I groaned turning forward in my seat and folding my arms across my chest. “You're not being fair.” I whined acting like a child.
Harry chuckled, “You don't do very well with surprises.” He was right, but I would never admit that. When I didn't respond he reached for my hand holding it in his and brought it to his lips. “You'll like it I swear.” He promised.
Ten minutes later Harry pulled into a parking, but before I had the chance to see where we were my eyes were covered with a thick black material.
“What the...” My hands flew up trying to remove the fabric. Harry grabbed my hands silently leading me forward. I was growing anxious as he guided me through a door and we walked on what felt like carpeted floor. “Where are we?” I asked more curious than anything.
“See for yourself,” Harry responded removing the blind fold as light flooded into my eyes. I blinked rapidly trying to restore my vision before taking in my surroundings. I looked around the massive bookstore and a smile broke on my face. “Do you know how hard it is find a Books-A-Million with a Starbucks in it?” He asked as I walked to the nearest row of crisp unread books looking over the various titles. “Nearly impossible. I lucked up because this one has a Starbucks right next door-”
“What's that?” I asked cutting him off as my eyes landed on a small round table that looked quite out of place with its white tablecloth and chairs.
Harry smiled motioning to a chair and pulling out for me to have a seat. “I hired a chef to cook your favorite dinner. Then you can pick out whatever books you want.” It suddenly dawned on me that there weren't any other customers in the store. We were the only ones. The smile stayed on my face as I sat in the chair and he sat across from me. A waiter dressed in pressed khaki trousers and black Polo appeared holding a glass of sweet tea and coke. He placed them on the table with a polite smile and disappeared.
“You went all out,” I hummed continuing to take in my surrounding slightly in shock that I was in a relationship with a guy who was willing to go the extra mile.
“Is that a good thing...?” Harry questioned in an unsure voice as he watched my face from a reaction. I gave him a small smile and bobbed my head up and down. It wasn't that I was unappreciative, it was just that even something as 'simple' as this was still a bit too over the top. Yet I just didn't have the heart to tell Harry that. He looked so proud of himself.
~~*~~
“How was it?” Katie pounced as soon as I entered my apartment. Harry was outside on the phone with someone. Judging from his voice it was work related and I figured it best for me to give him space. I didn't need a million fangirls coming after me for “messing up One Direction”.
“It was nice,” I answered sitting in the cream leather recliner and glancing at the television. She was watching a Doctor Who rerun on BBC America.
“Nice,” Katie repeated. “Nice!?” She burst standing from her spot on the couch. “It was nice! How dare you!? I spent a lot of me time helping Harry plan that date for you. He did something wrong, didn't he? What did he do?”
I bit my lip contemplating on confiding in the false ginger. I told her pretty much everything already. Might as well. “He may have bought out a whole bookstore and the Starbucks next door to it.” I admitted thinking back to after dinner, when I was finally able to pick out a book, and Harry informed me that their was a team of baristas next door waiting to make whatever drink or drinks I saw fit.
Katie groaned taking her seat. “He's an idiot.” She grumbled as Harry entered slipping his cell into his pocket.
“Hey Katie,” he smiled walking to the recliner I was sitting in and leaning on it.
“Hi Idiot,” Katie responded in mock happiness. Harry wore an appalled expression. As I let out a heavy sigh tapping the center of my forehead with my index finger. “You just had to go over the top didn't you. What part of 'keep it simple' did you not understand?”
My boyfriend looked around in confusion. “I... I don't-”
“I'm going to get dressed. Jonah is one his way and we're catching a late movie.” Katie announced standing and walking out of the living room.
“I-” Harry was still fumbling trying to understand my odd friend.
I shook my head, “You'll never know.” He looked down at me extending a hand and I took not really sure what was about to happen. Suddenly I pulled onto my feet causing a loud squeal of surprise to leave my mouth as Harry plopped himself down in the recliner and pulled me onto his lap effortlessly. “Whoa whiplash,” I shook my head trying to clear it as his strong arms circled around my waist.
A deep chuckle emitted from his throat, “Did you enjoy our date?”
I feigned thinking causing Harry to squeeze my sides. I squirmed in his hold let out a small giggle. “Yes, I enjoyed-”
“Are you ticklish?” He asked suddenly no longer interested in my opinion of our well thought out night.
“N-n-no,” I stuttered feeling the lie reject itself in my brain. “I'm lying. I am, but please don't tickle me.” Curse my mom for raising me with a heavy conscience. If the fate of the world depended on me lying then we were all screwed because I couldn't even say it was sunny day when there was a cloud in the sky.
Harry smirked leaning in as if he was going to kiss me. “I can tell when you're lying!” His fingers tickled my sides causing me to spass and squirm as I laughed all too hard and he wore an amused smile.
“Ah! Oh my Thor Harry stop!” I laughed finally managing to break away from him and running around the couch. He shook his head moving towards me and I knew there was no point in trying to out run his long legs. “If you don't tickle me, then I'll... I'll save you from my brother inquisition tomorrow!”
He stopped, “What?” He asked reminding me that I hadn't actually told him about our trip to my hometown tomorrow and his impending meeting of my family.
“We're going to Decatur tomorrow because my mom wants to meet you.” I smiled after dragging out each word. “Surprise!” I added to clear the awkward silence.
Harry nodded once, “I can handle that.”
My eyebrows quirked, “You can?” He nodded. “Are you sure? My family can be a bit much at times.” I followed him out of the living room into the hallway. “Actually they can be too much all of the time, but who's judging?”
“I'll be fine love,” he assured me kissing my cheek before entering the bathroom. I frowned staring at the closed door before turning in a huff and walking to my room. How was he so calm when I had been a wreck meeting his family? It didn't make sense.

*Harry's P.O.V*
Justice wore an adorable frown as she stared at her reflection in the mirror hanging on her closet door. Her nose scrunched and she cocked her head slightly to the right. I'd noticed that she does that whenever she's unsure of an outfit. Although I didn't see anything wrong with the black shiny leggings, red and black plaid oversized button down, and black combat boots she had on.
“I thought you told your mom we would be there by noon,” I spoke up sitting on the corner of her bed waiting patiently.
She groaned, “I did, it's only ten-thirty and Decatur is a forty-five minute drive when you drive the speed limit.” She tugged at the top of the black camisole she wore underneath the plaid button down. “I don't know about this...”
“You look great,” I responded automatically as my mobile vibrated in a my pocket. I pulled it out seeing my mum's name and picture flash across my screen. I waved the device at my girlfriend before answering the call and walking into the hallway. “Hi Mum,” I smiled while waiting on her to respond.
“Hi darling. How are you? How's the visit going?”
“I'm good. It's been great so far. We're going to Justice's hometown today so I can meet her family.”
“Oh that's exciting! How is Justice doing? She's not sick of you yet.”
I chuckled, “She's fine. What's up?”
I heard her laugh softly. “I know you said you're going to come home in time for Gemma's graduation, but I'm thinking about hosting a celebration party for her and needed to know if Justice is coming with you so I know exactly how many people to plan for.”
I scratched my head in thought leaning on the wall. “Umm, I'm not sure. I think she'll have classes. Plus we're leaving for Australia right afterward.”
Mum sighed, “Oh okay. Well let me know if anything changes. Tell your lovely girlfriend I say hello. Good luck today!” We ended the call in time for Justice to walk out of her bedroom still wearing the outfit she had so meticulously scrutinized. “Ready?” I asked.
“Umm...” She trailed off as she gave me a once over. I was wearing my typical black skinny jeans, with a black band tee, and my white Converse since Justice insisted that the boots be retired for a day. “Yeah, I'm good. Let's go. It's after eleven.” She rushed to the living room snatching up her keys. “Katie I'm gone!” She called.
“I'm coming up later!” Katie called back as the door closed behind me. I had learned that Justice and Katie's hometowns were twenty minutes apart and the city they lived in now was forty-five minutes away from their homes. They visited their families often. I envied them for that. One Direction was always busy and even when we had time off I still had a lot of things to do.
A little over thirty minutes later Justice parked in front of a white two-story colonial house with a cream Escalade and white Mercedes Benz parked in front of it. She cut her engine and let out a shaky breath.
“Why are you nervous?” I asked looking over at her.
She grinned, “You'll see.” We got out of the car as a black Ford truck pulled into a nearly hidden driveway. “That's my brother, Tyrique, but we all call him Quez.” She explained walking up the driveway to a small parking lot filled with various cars. My jaw dropped as I looked over a candy red restored Impala. Justice laughed, “My step-dad likes to restore cars and buy them.” She knocked on the window of the truck before yanking open the door.
“THEY DON'T KNOW ABOUT US!” A low voice crowed as the younger lad, who's facial features resembled Justice's, looked over with a confused expression. “You interrupted me!” He fussed turning down the volume and getting out of his truck. I was surprised to find that he was tall (he had at least an inch on me) with a hair cut that reminded me of Zayn in his quiff days. “What's up fool? I'm Quez.” He extended his hand.
“Harry,” I responded. We shook hands. “How old are you?” I asked.
He chuckled, “Twenty-one.”
Justice rolled her eyes. “He's lying. He's fifteen.” I eyed the truck which had just been driving alone. She put on a guilty smile, “We may or may not let him drive by himself from time to time. But it's his truck and no one else is going to use it.” Turning and leading the up to the house. We walked up the concrete stairs to the front porch and inside. “Hi Earl!” Justice waved, as we stood in the foyer looking into what I assumed was the living room, at a dark skinned man who was sitting on the sofa. He looked like an older version of her brother. “Harry, this is my step-dad, Earl. Earl, this is my boyfriend, Harry.” She introduced us bumping into a younger light-skinned lad with a low hair cut and a muscular build. He was a few inches shorter than me.
“Boyfriend!?” He exclaimed looking at me with wild brown eyes. “Did I say you could have a boyfriend?” He demanded.
Earl chuckled, “You better get 'em Caleb.”
Caleb, I'm guessing, turned to me. “Who you be?” He asked in a mock accent. I introduced myself learning that he was her thirteen year old brother.
“Where's Mom?” Justice asked moving out of the foyer down the slim open hallway. She peeped around a corner on her right coming up empty handed and moving on. I stood awkwardly.
“Have a seat.” Earl motioned to the small sofa across from him and I walked to it taking a seat. Caleb sat beside me.
“Aren't you in a boy band?” He asked matter-of-fact. I nodded. “That's cool.” He shrugged turning to the TV where a college football game was on. “I'm on a football team,” he said minutes later. “And I'm captain of my basketball team.” He added. My mind registered Justice mentioning everyone in her family playing a sport at some point.
“You won't be captain of anything if you don't get those grades up.” Justice's step-dad mumbled lifting a tall yellow can to his mouth. Caleb rolled his eyes as Justice reentered the living room with a light skinned woman who was a few inches taller than her. There were subtle facial resemblances shared between them. I stood up.
“Mom this is Harry, my boyfriend. Harry this is my mom.” Justice introduced us.
I smiled, “Hi.” In my peripheral I caught a pair of brown eyes rolling. I tucked in my lips to fight a laugh.
“You can call me Tiffany.” I nodded not sure what to say. “Well, we didn't really have anything planned...” She stated looking around the living room awkwardly as the door swung open and a younger version of her walked into the house. I instantly knew her as Justice's younger sister, Aerial. Justice talked about her from time to time and they constantly shared picture of them together on the internet. My girlfriend was pulled away by her sister leaving me alone with her step-dad and brothers, but before things could get awkward, Caleb stood cutting powering on the video gaming system.
“Let me get the first round.” Quez spoke and he picked up a black controller. “You play NBA 2k13?” He asked me as Earl stood walking out of the room.
I shrugged my shoulders, “I haven't played it much.” Caleb tossed me a controller.
“Well we play everyday,” he informed me. “So prepare to lose.” He added as the game started up.
“I don't lose.” I responded taking a seat so that I could see the telly properly.

*Justice's P.O.V*
I was in my old bedroom with my younger sister, Aerial, sitting on the bed as my mom stood in the doorway.
“How long have y'all been together?” Aerial asked while brushing her honey blonde and seriously curly hair. Her bright yellow skin was covered in sweat from her morning workout.
“Well we met in June, but we didn't actually become a couple until August.” I answered looking to my left where all of my high school memorabilia was still hanging on the wall.
My mom placed her hands on her hips. “So do you like dating him with all the attention?” She asked with concern in her voice.
My shoulders shrugged, “I don't know. I mean, I like dating Harry, but I don't like everyone wanting to know what's going on in our relationship.”
Aerial popped her lips, “Has he met your dad yet?”
My head shook. “No, but we're supposed to go over there tomorrow and then he leaves Monday morning.” I answered. I was nervous about Harry meeting my paternal family. They was more relaxed than my maternal side, but they were also more aggressive. Plus I had a lot more brothers who worked in various muscle building professions.
She nodded, “Well, he seems like a nice guy. I approve.” With that my mom turned and walked out of the room.
I snorted, “Because your approval is the sole basis for my happiness.” I sarcastically responded while Aerial stood and changed her shirt from and oversized white tee to a pink cardigan.
“Let's go.” She stated grabbing her white iPhone 4s off of the vanity dresser.
“Go where?” I asked as my thick eyebrows drew together in confusion. I seriously needed to get those tamed.
“To Ross so I can show you this shirt!” She exclaimed as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“No, Aerial, I am not buying you a shirt. I'm always buying you stuff.” I stood and walked out of the room. She was hot on my trials.
“Come on Jay! Don't act like that. Mama already told me no.”
“Then you must not need it.” I countered as we descended the carpeted stairs.
Aerial groaned, “You don't have to act funny because you got a man now. You could be buy me a shirt. It's just a shirt.”
Instinctively my eyes rolled as I recognized the signs of her dramatics. “I'm not acting funny.” We stopped in the dining room.
“Yes you are. You're fake.” Aerial rolled her eyes and walked into the kitchen. I looked after her momentarily before shrugging my shoulders and walking into the living room. My eyes took in the sight of Harry and Caleb intensively staring at the TV while their fingers rapidly pressed buttons on the gaming controllers. I pulled out my cell phone to record right as Harry's team managed to score.
“Ooh!” Quez cheered as Harry stood with a proud smile holding his long arms in the air. Caleb wore an annoyed expression tossing the controller then quickly picking it back up. He wasn't done yet. I smiled deciding to share the video clip on Instagram.

Not even an hour later, as I was sitting in the kitchen with my mom, scrolling on tumblr, the haters had struck. Despite my better judgment, I clicked on the popular tag associated with my relationship just to see what they had to say.

I feel so bad for Harry because management is making him spend time with Justice and her family all because they want to make sure she's well known before they start her music career.

Justice is closer to Perrie because neither one of them have shame about using a guy or fame. At least Eleanor knows her limit.

What was even the point of Justice posting that video. Like no one cares about your money hungry family.
Occasionally I came across something nice that would make me smile and feel like I wasn't completely hated. I would like it or reblog it and keep scrolling. A few people managed post the video to their blogs.

Harry met Justice's family today and he's playing games with her younger brothers and they just need to get married!

Look at that face! He's so proud and it's so cute!
I exited out of the app before I could come across anything too bad. Harry and I spent quite a few hours with my family. We left right before dinner since we were supposed to meet Katie and Jonah at the Bridgestreet Shopping Center for a double date.
“I like your family,” Harry commented while driving to Decatur.
I nodded, “They're alright.”
He chuckled, “Your brothers are funny. Do they act like that all of the time?” He asked referring to my brother's rendition of 'Baby' by Justin Bieber. It was an interesting scene to watch.
“Unfortunately...” I winced in thought before shaking my head and choosing to change the subject. “Ready for our double date!?” I asked in an excited voice while clasping my hands together.
He gave me a knowing look before shrugging his broad shoulders. “What's the worse that can happen?” He responded with a slight smirk.
