The Mess We're In

Doubt

I watched Dawn as she sat on the counter in front of Louis and laughed at whatever ridiculous thing he was saying to her.

Although she looked happy and carefree, I knew better.

Her eyes didn’t sparkle like they usually did. Her smile, which was usually open and easy, was tight and almost forced.

Something was bothering her, it had been for a while now. She just refused to tell me and that was, in turn, bothering me.

She acted as if nothing was wrong, as if I hadn’t studied her long enough in the years we have known each other to know when that was a lie.

But she insisted that it was just stress from being on her own this go around on tour.

I wanted to believe that but something kept telling me it was more then that.

“What do you think Harry?” Her voice pulled me out of my thoughts as she and Louis both grinned over at me.

“I’m sorry. What do I think about what?” I asked furrowing my brow.

Dawn giggled lightly. “I want to get a tattoo.”

My eyes widened. She was normally the one to scoffed at my tattoos that she claimed were ‘random’, I had never heard her mention wanting one before.

“Is that so?”

She jumped off the counter and sauntered over to me, Louis raising an eyebrow at her and smirking as she did.

“I want to get a tattoo. Right here.” She said pointing to just below her left breast.

My eyes slid from her face to her chest instantly making my mouth go dry.

“Oh yea.” I said lifting my eyes back to hers. I mirrored her smirk. “I might need a closer inspection of the designated area.”

Louis, being the only other occupant in the dressing room, cleared his throat and quickly stood up. “I think I’ll be leaving now.”

I looked around Dawn to stare at him until he left before looking back at her. “So you going to show me?”

She shook her head and smiled at me.

I quickly gripped her hips and pulled her onto my lap. “Tease.” I breathed out before placing my lips to hers.

I loved the feel of her lips on mine. They were so soft and made me forget every worry. I couldn’t get enough.

I was so lost in her lips working against mine and the feeling of her body pressed into mine that I didn’t notice my hand had slipped under her jumper and up her back until the tips of my fingers brushed up against her bra.

I knew this was nearing an end, Dawn didn’t normally let it move much farther. I wasn’t surprised when she pulled away leaving small kisses on my lips as she did, my hands slowly sliding back down to rest on her hips.

“We’re in the dressing room. Someone can come in at any moment.” She breathed out, lifting herself from my lap.

“Tease.” I repeated with a smirk as I watched her adjust her clothes.

She rolled her eyes at me and returned to the counter, glancing in the mirror to make sure she looked presentable.

I watched as her guard went back up. I could almost see the walls being built and I had no clue why they were there in the first place. Again the thoughts of what could possible be bothering her entered my mind and suddenly I couldn't wait any longer to find out.

“Dee, what’s on your mind?”

She looked at me through the mirror, just staring at me for a long while before she sighed and flashed me a smile. A smile I knew wasn’t genuine and I was slightly upset she thought I wouldn’t notice.

“Nothing is wrong. I always get like this on tour.” She said trying to wave it off.

I knew better.

“No. You don’t. Have you forgotten I’ve been on all the other tours with you?”

She broke eye contact with me, a very clear sign that I was right, and hung her head as her arms braced against the counter.

“It’s nothing Harry, just drop it.” She countered.

I was about to open my mouth and argue my point some more when the door to the dressing room flung open and Jasmyn walked in.

I was annoyed that she felt she could just walk in and by the fact that she had interrupted a very important conversation but I would never show it to the poor girl.

“Hello Jasmyn.” I said trying to hide my aggravation with a smile.

She beamed at me then turned to look at Dawn.

“Um...” Dawn paused, plastering a very fake smile on her face. “Hi.”

“Was I interrupting something?” She asked holding her hand to her chest and letting her whole face fall at the realization that Dawn and I both looked like we were in the middle of something. “Oh, I’m so rude. I’m sorry. I’ll come back later.” She said beginning to close the door and back out in the process.

“Yes you were.” Dawn informed glaring at the girl through the mirror but then in a quieter voice. “We’re done now.” She added turning to look at me. My look telling her we were far from done.

“Well that’s good.” Jasmyn said as if she didn’t really care to begin with. I kept my eyes on Dawn as she tried her hardest not to glare at the other girl by looking at anything else in the room.

“Dawn I think there was a man looking for you.” Jasmyn announced in a sickly sweet voice even I didn’t buy. “He had some sort of a package for you.”

As watched Dawn I saw as her whole face feel, the color quickly draining from it as her eyes widened. “Ar-are you sure?”

That was curious. Why would she have that reaction to something like that? Who would be sending her a package anyway?

Jasmyn smiled widely again and nodded. “Yup. He thought I was you and clearly,” She looked down at her self then eyed Dawn up and down. “I’m nowhere near beingyou.”

I was too busy watching Dawn to really analyze the tone Jasmyn used but what little I processed it didn’t sound friendly at all.

Dawn didn’t seem to process the tone either as she slowly nodded and mumbled out an “Oh okay.”

“I, um, I’m going to go get... that. I’ll... I’ll see you later Harry.” Dawn said quickly exiting the room looking down at her feet with a troubled expression on her face.

I was just about to get up and follow her when Jasmyn dropped into the seat beside me and placed her head on my shoulder.

I looked at the top of her head wondering why she thought this was okay.

“Why does everyone hate me Harry?” She said with a sigh.

I had to admit I felt kind of bad for her but at the same time she was a bit abrasive so I could understand the others unwillingness to be friendly with her.

“Well you could try a bit harder to be nice.” I said.

She shot up to look at me. “I am nice. I just... I feel a bit intimidated by you all.”

She looked so vulnerable as she spoke, so sad. I felt terrible for her. Of course she would feel intimidated, we had all been at this touring business for ages together and had all established a pretty tight bond with each other and this poor girl was thrown in trying to fit into our already close knit group. It had to be difficult.

“Well, I can talk to them but it might help if you put a little more effort in being nicer. Especially to Dawn.”

Jasmyn eyed me for moment before letting a smile spread on her face. “Of course Harry.”

I returned her smile and stood up, fully intending to look for Dawn and finish the conversation we were having before Jasmyn showed up.

“Now, I need to go find Dawn.” I looked back at her as she also stood. “Where was this man with a package for her?”

Jasmyn raised an eyebrow. “Out in the hall.” I nodded and began to walk towards the door but was stopped by her calling out to me. “Don’t you think its a bit odd the way she acted when I told her about the package. Like she had something to hide.”

I let the look on Dawn’s face replay in my head.

She did look worried. I tried to shake the thought from my mind.

Dawn would tell me as soon as I confronted her, she had this habit of trying to keep me from things she thought would worry me but if it was stressing her out this much I certainly wanted to know about it.

“I’m sure it’s nothing. Don’t worry about it.” Honestly it was not any of Jasmyn’s concern.

“I just don’t want to see you get hurt Harry.” She said quietly as she looked at me through her lashes shyly.

I let her implications sink in. Dawn wouldn’t be hiding something like that from me.

Would she?

Of course not. She loved me and I knew it. I needed to keep the doubt out of my head. I trusted her.

“I’m sure its nothing.” I repeated before leaving her in the room and going off to look for Dawn.

It didn’t take me too long.

I found her leaning up against the wall a little ways down the hall looking at a piece of paper in her hands.

I watched as she read the words with a blank expression before I walked up to her and rested myself on the wall beside her.

“What’s that?” I asked nodding towards the paper.

Her eyes quickly snapped up to me as she crumpled the paper up and tossed it into one of the bins on the cart beside her.

“Nothing.” She answered and turned to face me with the same tight smile I was coming to hate.

“Dawn I know something is the matter and I wish you would tell me.”

“NOTHING...” Her voice raise considerable and then as if she realized it she quickly lowered it, “is the matter Harry. Just let it be.”

I stared at her before rolling my eyes. “Fine then. You want to keep this to yourself, you do that. I’m sick of trying to understand you when you are keeping everything to yourself. We used to talk about things and now you won’t tell me anything.”

She bit her lip trying to hold back tears. I felt bad for yelling at her but I was beginning to get frustrated with her.

“Harry...” She struggled with whatever it was that was on her mind. With a sigh she shook her head. “It’s nothing. I promise. I just need a few days and I’ll be back to normal. I’m sorry, I didn‘t mean to worry you.”

I wanted to believe her so bad that I ignored the nagging feeling in the pit of my stomach telling me that this was wrong, that there was something very wrong going on. The voice telling me not to let this go so easily.

Instead I nodded and pulled her close. I didn’t like to fight with her and I certainly didn’t want to start arguing with her now.

“It’s okay. I’m sorry for getting on your case.”

She nodded into my chest and I placed a kiss to her forehead.

I tried to ignore the fact that her whole body tensed when I kissed her head but it was hard to ignore when she blatantly pulled away from me just as I was going to kiss her lips.

As much as I wanted to believe everything was okay, it was getting harder and harder to convince myself.

And Jasmyn’s words kept coming back to me.

Please update :( you're killing me
First: the reason this isn't as popular as the nanny SO FAR, is because this one only has less then 20chapters, whereas the nanny has I'm pretty sure over 40. See the difference? And second: that girl better tell Harry about everything soon, CAUS ethics is killing me!!! Update again soon xxx
