The Mess We're In

Overreact

Tonight was our last show in London. The traveling officially kicked off after this with us traveling to Glasgow in the morning.

I was excited to be touring again, not so much for all the packing though.

I double checked the bag I was packing now once more, making sure I hadn’t forgotten anything of importance. Normally Dawn helped but she was out shopping with Jena who wouldn’t be joining the tour this go around since she would be starting Uni.

Niall was gutted about leaving her behind and Dawn was beyond overwhelmed at touring with out an assistant this time.

I had tried to help her out by assisting in Dawn’s packing but when she saw that I had packed all her lacy knickers she had quickly shoved me away, swatting at my hands and called me a pervert.

It was really for the better anyway, she managed to finish in a little over an hour and I probably would have ‘forgotten’ to pack anything sensible for her to wear.

I still had my eyes on the little black dress she wore the other night. Maybe I could convince her she needed to bring it on tour with us.

After assuring myself I was fully prepared for anything this tour could throw at me, I pulled the last suitcase to the front entrance of Louis and I’s flat. Already there was a massive pile of ours and Dawn’s cases and bags ready to load up tomorrow morning.

“Finally done?” Louis asked form the kitchen where he was eating an apple waiting on me so we could leave.

I turned and nodded. “I’m excited about this tour. Everything is finally as it should be.”

Louis eyed me while he chewed slowly before swallowing. “Harry can you promise me something?”

I looked at him with wide eyes. Louis knew that I would do just about anything for him. We were best friends for a reason after all.

Taking my look as an ok he continued. “Promise you’ll stay away from Jasmyn.”

Now I was a bit confused.

Jasmyn was our opening act and although she was a bit overbearing she was somewhat nice. “Jasmyn is harmless.” I waved off.

“She’s trouble.” Louis warned walking out of the kitchen. “And she’s quite rude to Dawn.”

I thought his words over. Dawn hadn’t said anything about it and I hadn’t seen anything but Louis wouldn’t lie either.

“I’ll talk to her.” I concluded. If she was in fact being rude to Dawn I would have to set her straight, politely of course.

After all Dawn is the girl I’m in love with and she did come first but I didn’t want to cause a strain on the tour by being mean to the poor singer either.

“That’s the problem.” Louis said, grabbing his keys and nodding towards the door. It was close to noon and we both had to be at the venue by then. “I don’t think youshould talk to her. Dawn probably wont say anything because she doesn’t want to make things uncomfortable but I can tell it bothers her. Jasmyn is too touchy with you.”

I thought back to the last few times I had interacted with the tall dark haired singer.

She did have a tendency to touch me quite a bit when speaking to me but I didn’t think too much on it. It wasn’t as if females touching me was something new, but maybe I could see how that would bother Dawn.

I just wish she would tell me these things herself.

It seemed that with all the changes going on between us for the better there were still something's she didn’t quite feel comfortable with, like telling me when something involving my career bothered her. I was sure being in a relationship with someone like me could be overwhelming and I honestly wish I could make it less so but it was out of my hands. All I could do was let her know how much I loved her and wait for her to feel more at ease about everything going one around us.

“Well be that as it may, I can’t exactly not talk to the girl. We are on tour together after all. Its a bit difficult.” I said, jumping back form my thoughts about Dawn to the Jasmyn conversation I was still having with Louis.

Louis slid into the drivers side of his vehicle as I took the passenger side. Once we were both seated he looked at me and rolled his eyes. “Mate you didn’t have much of a problem avoiding Cameron last tour.”

I sighed.

It was true.

With everything going on last time we were in the states I had done my very best to avoid the bass player of our opening act. “That was different. To begin with it wasn’t like he was actively searching me out either, and second he had a band to keep him company, Jasmyn is on her own. Just imagine if it was you going through all this alone. It would be quite lonely don’t you think. She just wants a friend.”

Louis scoffed as he maneuvered his car through traffic. “She wants a fuck buddy with clout in the industry that could get her name in the press and she’s got her sights set on your curly headed dimpled self and she doesn’t care the slightest that you are in a committed relationship.”

I glared at him. I was positive he was exaggerating.

Louis glanced at me quickly before raising his eyebrows and shrugging. “All I’m saying is you need to be careful. Keep Dawn in mind and do not fuck this up Styles. Once was enough with you and Dawn. I don’t want to go through another tour having to see you two suffering. It‘s really very tiring to watch you two whine about each other.”

The rest of the trip was made in silence, at least until we reach the venue where a large group of fans was already outside waiting. We waved as we drove past the barricades into the privet car park, flashes going off as we did.

The others were already inside when we entered, prepping to do a sound check.

Both Louis and I made our way over to the sound board where Shane was holding out our in-ears and microphones.

“Hello boys. Ready?” Shane asked as he played with a few switches on the board. Louis nodded and went to join the others where they stood talking to Paul and a few other people that worked behind the scenes but I hung back and played with the volume on my mic pack.

“And where might the lovely Miss Dawn be?” Shane asked with a grin in my direction as I looked up from what I was doing.

“Excuse me?”

He chuckled and looked down at the board again. “Dawn. I haven’t seen her around.”

I wasn’t too sure why it bothered me so much that he cared. It wasn’t like a million other people on this tour have never asked me the same question. It was just something about Shane asking me bothered me however.

“She’s out with Jena.” I answered begrudgingly. “Why do you care?”

I honestly hadn’t meant for that last part to come out. It was something I was thinking but had no intention of actually speaking but now that it was out I was interested to hear his answer.

Out of the corner of my eyes I saw the others look up from what they were doing to stare at Shane and I as we stared each other down.

To be completely honest, Shane hadn’t done anything to warrant me attitude towards him. I just didn’t like the way he was always around Dawn.

Every time I would look over to the side of the stage during the last two shows, he was there talking to her, making her smile or laugh.

I didn’t like it. Not one bit.

Shane stared at me for a second before raising his hands in surrender. “Whoa. I didn’t mean anything by it. I was just wondering. I’m not trying to infringe on anyone's territory. I know you two are a thing.” He defended.

I felt slightly bad but also relived that he now knew I wasn’t completely happy with him being so close to Dawn.

“We are a thing. A very serious thing so keep that in mind and we wont have any problems Shane.”

Again I was shocked at my own words and apparently so was everyone else. I normally wasn’t confrontational.

Shane still held his hands up and nodded before turning back to his switches. “She’s your girlfriend. I got it.”

I eyed him for a moment before turning back to my band mates.

“What was that Haz?” Liam asked looking from me to Shane who still hadn't looked up from what he was doing.

“Nothing.” I waved off but they all still looked at me funny.

“You practically took his head off for asking about Dawn.” Niall said with wide eyes.

I looked up at him then at Louis who had raised an eyebrow at me.

“It’s nothing. Don’t worry about it.”

Sound check went by with out any more questions and with Shane staying in his little area backstage. The others gave me odd looks as we made our way past the older man but I paid no mind to them or Shane.

As we were lead down the halls we were already fairly accustomed to I heard my name being called from one of the rooms I had just walked by.

I leaned back to peek around the corner to find a perky Jasmyn smiling brilliantly at me from the sofa in her dressing room.

“Hello handsome. How are you today?”

I looked back down the hall to see Louis, again, giving me a meaningful look. I knew what he was trying to say without him having to open his mouth. I needed to handle this situation but I still wasn’t completely sure it was as bad as Louis made it sound.

“I’m, um... I’m good. Just about to call Dawn and see where she’s at.”

I looked at her face looking for a reaction but I saw nothing at all. She was still smiling at me.

“Oh. Is she out?”

Louis was losing it. She was just a nice girl. “Yes. Shopping. She should be arriving soon. We need to be getting ready in a few hours.” I said pointing over my shoulder.

“For your meet and greet, correct?”

I nodded, slipping my hands into my pockets. Jasmyn stood and walked over to me before patting my chest and smiling shyly up at me through her lashes.

“I’m sure your girlfriend will be here soon enough. Maybe you could keep me company until she arrives. I‘m really lonely.” She said with a pout.

I looked towards the door and back at her, my mouth opening to speak but someone else did before I could.

“Actually Jasmyn, we have a few last minute radio interviews to do. I’m going to need to steal Hazza away, you should know how that works, I think your grasping the concept of attempting to steal things rather well.”

Both Jasmyn and I looked at Lou with dropped jaws.

I began to turned to apologize to the girl but Louis didn’t give me the chance. He pulled me right out of the room, even as I struggled to get out of his hold, and down the hall.

“What the fuck Lou?!” I said when he finally let me go as we entered our dressing room.

“What the hell is wrong with you Styles? You can be all domineering and tough when you feel like Shane is threatening your relationship but you are blindly allowing that girl to do the same with no problem.”

I scoffed. He was mental. “Those are two different things Louis.”

“They are not and you are an idiot if you think they are.” He yelled back. “She was clearly flirting with you. You should be able to recognize it. She was using some of your moves.” He said pointing at me.

I rolled my eyes.

Zayn, Liam and Niall all stood to the side allowing us to argue on our own. We did it often enough, granted not normally about anything more serious then who left the dirty socks in the kitchen, but none the less the two of us raising our voices at each other was nothing new to them.

“You are over reacting Louis.”

“I’m trying to look out for my friend.” He countered.

I dropped onto the sofa and sighed. “I don’t need looking out for. I‘ve got the Shane thing under control and there is nothing going on with Jasmyn.”

“You‘re not the friend I‘m talking about.”

I never got to respond because in that moment the door banged up against the wall and two giddy girls came rushing in, pelting carrots in all directions.

“LOUIS!!!” Dawn sang as she grabbed a handful and tossed them at him. “The fan girls gave me these to give to you and Jena and I know how much you just lovereceiving carrots so here you go.”

Again another handful.

“This again.“ Louis sneered playfully at her as he ducked out of the way of the projectile vegetable and reached for her hands.

“Harry come control your woman.” He shouted at me. All hints of our little argument forgotten, at least for now.

I chuckled and grabbed the bag that had dropped to the floor and began to toss the orange food at him myself.

He dropped her hands and shielded his face as he backed away. “You two are made for each other.” He said shaking his head and hiding behind Liam as Dawn giggled behind me.

“Carrot?” I asked holding one out to her.

She grinned and nodded placing a quick kiss to my lips as she took it.

“Thank you.”

For now at least all the tension was forgotten. It was easy to do whenever she was around.

It was things like this that let me know that no matter how much waiting I had to do for her or how much Louis worried about Jasmyn or I disliked Shane being around Dawn, we were going to be alright.

We were Dawn and Harry,

Hawn.

We would be fine.
