The Mess We're In
Fan Mail
My eyes followed the curly headed wonder I called my boyfriend as he bounced around the stage making all the little girls scream.
Every now and again he would wander closer to my side of the stage and stick his tongue out at me or blow me a kiss, each time making me giggle.
Jena, who was sitting next to me on the floor leaning into my side, would also giggle every time Harry or Niall came our way.
I rested my chin on my bent knees as they finished up their third song, soon Jena and I would have to rush off to quick change to prep with Caroline for the boys but for now we were enjoying watching their first performance of this tour.
I noticed on the other side of the stage another girl I wasn’t too familiar with, her own eyes following Harry’s every move.
I leaned in closer to Jena and pointed across the stage to her. “Who’s that?”
Jena looked away from Niall who was in the middle of telling the crowed how great they were to squint.
“Oh that’s Jasmyn . She’s the opener.”
I had been to busy the last few days to see the full rehearsals with the openers and earlier this evening I had been preoccupied with a certain pop star before they went on to actually catch any of them performing so I was completely in the dark about this girl and her music.
I didn’t respond as I watched Jasmyn smile seductively at Harry as he made his way to that side of the stage.
On pure female territorial instinct I began to size her up.
She had long dark hair, the color I couldn’t be certain of because of the bright lights of the stage casting her in a deep shadow but even with all that I could see she still had the heavey stage makeup on accentuating her facial features. She was pretty, looked to be tall and very slim and seeming to be heavily blessed in all the womanly ways. She obviously wasn’t afraid of showing off the goods either judging by her low cut crop top and impossibly tight low rise jeans.
“She’s... pretty.” I conceded.
Jena looked at me from the corner of her eyes and grinned. “She looks like a prostitute and she’s got eyes set on Harry. I would watch out for her.”
I scoffed. “She‘s not his type. Besides,” I looked over at the girl just as she waved her fingers flirtatiously at Harry causing me to roll my eyes. “I trust Harry.”
Even though I said it, I couldn’t help but feel slightly insecure at the fact someone that looked like that was watching Harry like a hawk.
Honestly she made me feel like an awkward 13 year old with a flat chest and no curves in comparison.
Deep down I knew Harry loved me but it was a hit to my self esteem looking at Jasmyn.
“Come on Jena we should go set up for them.” I said heaving myself off the ground and holding my hand out for the other girl.
We only had to wait until the end of the song they were singing before all five boys came rushing into the small room. Harry quickly pecking my lips as he yanked off his shirt only to quickly slip on a new one.
I wiped the sweat from his face and applied some more shine reducer before moving on to his hair.
“Alright babe?” He asked as I bit my lip.
“Yup.” I knew he would know I was lying but right now wasn’t the time so I sent him a small smile before moving on to Liam who had just finished pulling up his pants.
Harry gave me a funny look while he let Caroline adjust his own clothes but said nothing furthers.
As the boys lined up on the side of the stage waiting for their next cue, Harry still eyeing me suspiciously, the girl from across the stage made her way up to them.
“You guys are so good.” She cooed letting her hand rest on Harry’s forearm.
He looked down at her perfectly manicured hand then up at her with a grin before looking towards the stage just as their musical cue began.
I didn’t miss Niall looking at her then at me or Liam doing the same. Zayn had a stronger reaction by sneering at the girl, I couldn’t help actually being proud of him for that, and Louis just narrowed his eyes before brushing the girls hand off and giving Harry a slight shove towards the stage. I don’t think I have ever been happier with Louis’ protective side more.
I knew I was over reacting. I didn’t know the girl, maybe she was unaware Harry and I actually were together. I don’t know what her deal was, so I decided to introduce myself, more to let her know she was infringing on my territory then to actually be polite.
Jena looked at me like I was crazy as I walked up to the taller singer.
“Hello, you’re Jasmyn right?”
She pulled her eyes away from the boys to look me over slowly. “Yea.”
I was a bit taken back by her bored tone but I choose to ignore it. “I’m Dawn, Harry’s girlfriend.”
I decided going with the girlfriend title right off the bat rather then the stylist title might be a better choice, especially with they way she was looking at him.
My stomach turned when I say malice flash in her eyes momentarily but she covered it up so quickly I wasn’t sure if I actually saw it or not.
“Oh,” She said in the same bored tone while folding her arms over her half exposed chest, “The hair dresser.”
My jaw literally dropped at her statement. She said it like I was some underling that was better left in the dark away from the general public.
I couldn’t seem to find me voice at the sheer shock of how rude this girl was. I wanted to slap myself at the way I was appearing weak in front of her.
I wanted to smack myself but not as much as I wanted to slap her silly.
Jena however jump to my rescue. “Yes, she’s also Harry’s best friend and girlfriend. They are honestly the cutest couple ever. Perfect really.” She ended with an overly sweet smile in the other girls direction.
Jasmyn raised an eyebrow at Jena as if she was trying to figure out why the smaller girl had said anything before scoffing and walking away but not before we heard her mutter. “Not for long.”
Again my eyes nearly fell out of my head as I turned to look at Jena. “Did that just happen?”
Jena watched the girl saunter off with narrowed eyes and pursed lips. “Yup.”
I slowly turned back to look at Jasmyn just as she was turning the corner.
I was trying to suppressed the urge to go all ape shit crazy on her and claw her eyes and rip her weave out but I concluded that I had more class then that and I certainly didn‘t want to make life difficult for the boys by acting like a lunatic even if the girl was trying me. “I do not like her.”
“Me either.”
After that rather questionable experience Jena and I tried to go back to enjoying the show but I couldn’t seem to focus on anything except my genuine contempt for the girl I had literally only spoken to for less then five minutes and who seemed to be the snobbiest, bitchiest person I had ever had the misfortune to speak to.
“Well you don’t look like you’re enjoying yourself too much.” A slightly familiar males voice said from beside me.
I snapped my head in his direction to find Shane smiling at me.
“I am, I’ve just got a lot on my mind.” I shrugged off.
Shane licked his lips then looked behind me with a smirk. “It wouldn’t have anything to do with the certain Miss Jasmyn would it?”
I stared at him with wide eyes and he just laughed.
“Yea she is definitely a piece of work. I’d steer clear of her. She thinks she’s the second coming of Britney Spears or something.” He added, taking me silence as confirmation.
I scoffed and shook my head. “She wishes. Anyone who has to show off that much skin to get attention can‘t possible have any real talent.”
Shane looked slightly impressed. “Well, well, well. It appears our Miss Grey has claws of her own.”
I smirked. “Oh Shane you haven’t seen anything yet.”
Harry made his way to us once again. He looked from Shane to me before mouthing the words I love you which I instantly repeated back to him.
“I should be getting back to work.” Shane said pointing over his shoulder just as Harry began to jump back towards the front of the stage. “I’ll see you around.”
I nodded, again being mesmerized by Harry and the others as they sang one of their newer songs I had yet to see them perform.
“Oh and Dawn,” Shane called out to me making me pull my eyes away for a moment to look at him. He smiled when I did. “Don’t let Jasmyn get to you. She’s got nothing on you.”
I smirked and nodded watching him walk away before turning back to the performance.
“You should probably watch out for him too.” Jena said into my ear with out taking her eyes off the stage.
“Who Shane?” I asked and Jena nodded. “He’s just a nice guy. Nothing more.”
“If you say so.”
One more wardrobe change and a dozen songs later everyone was gathered in the dressing room celebrating the end of a good first show.
Luckily everyone didn’t include Jasmyn.
I playfully shoved Harry away as he tried to pull me into a sweaty hug to which he responded by rubbing his damp forehead and curls against my cheek making my nose wrinkle at the disgusting act.
We were just getting ready to head home when Shane walked in followed by Paul.
The boys still had two more shows in London before the actual traveling began so it was slightly more laid back as far as leaving the venue went.
“Found these things scattered around the stage didn’t know if you guys wanted them or not.” Shane said depositing stuffed animals, pieces of crumbled up paper and various other items onto the table in the center of the room. Fortunately the bras and panties had been taken else where or you could imagine how that sorting would go.
Louis was the first to shuffle through the pile picking up the whoopee cushion some one had thought would be a good idea for a gift and two teddy bears he said he was going to give to his twin sisters.
“Hey Dawn this is addressed to you.” Liam said holding up a tiny stuffed penguin with an attached envelope.
“Me?!” I asked pointing to myself like I was trying to remind him who I was. “Why would I have anything?”
He just shrugged while handing me the little toy. I had to admit it was adorable and I was incredible touched that someone had been so sweet as to actually get me something.
“Aw Dee has fans.” Niall gushed obnoxiously. I just rolled my eyes.
Harry beamed at me while I opened the envelope up. My eyes scanning the note. The handwriting was barely legible and looked to be written in a rush. I read then reread the words.
He doesn’t deserve you. You should be with me.
“Dawn, are you alright?” Shane asked giving me a concerned look as I realized I was just staring at the words on the paper for a little too long.
“Huh?” I looked up at him then around the room. Every one was giving me strange looks. “Yeah I’m fine. Silly note.” I said folding it back up with the intention of tossing it away as I giggled.
Some fans are just strange.
“What’s it say?” Harry asked trying to take it from me.
“Nothing. It’s silly.” I shook my head and pulled it out of his reach. I was honestly a little embarrassed by even receiving anything in the first place let alone this strange note. “You ready to go.”
“Yea lets go.”
I waved at the others as we both headed towards the exit.
“You sure you’re alright?” Harry asked.
I giggled and kissed his cheek. “I’m fine. I just don’t normally get fan mail.”
“I’m a male fan does that count?”
I slapped his chest and laughed out loud. “You are so dumb.”
“You love me.” He said grinning down at me as we hopped into his Audi.
We were well behind the barricade and out of sight of the fans so as soon as he was seated in the car I leaned over the center console and placed my lips to his. I grinned into the kiss when I felt his large hand slid into my hair deepening the contact.
“I love you.” I agreed as I pulled away and Harry started up the car.
I couldn’t help feeling a little on edge though, between the whole Jasmyn thing and the odd note I was hoping that they weren’t a sign of things to come on this tour, last tour was enough drama, but something in the pit of my stomach told me I should be on the look out anyway.
Every now and again he would wander closer to my side of the stage and stick his tongue out at me or blow me a kiss, each time making me giggle.
