The Mess We're In
Party
How to describe the last few months?
Maybe bliss.
Yeah, I’ll go with that.
Even with all the stress of a new tour beginning, I was alright as long as I knew Dawn would be there.
My eyes dropped to my watch.
Speaking of Dawn, she was meant to be making an appearance soon.
The tour kick off party was tonight and she was supposed to be here with my change of clothes soon so we could leave from here.
“She’ll be here soon, Haz.” Liam said clapping a hand on my shoulder as he passed by me.
We were at our last rehearsal before tour, standing in a nearly deserted arena on stage looking out at thousands of empty seats.
In two days those seat would be filled and then from there the whirlwind that was a major world tour would start up. It kind of crazy to think about.
“I’m here, I’m here. Sorry I’m late. I was at a meeting with Jena.” I heard the voice I had been waiting for shout from the side of the stage as she began to rush up the steps bumping into our new sound tech on the way. “Sorry.” She gushed holding her hands out to him as he helped her gain her balance and smiled.
I chuckled, lazily walking over to her as she kept apologizing over her shoulder at the man while taking the last few steps.
“Trying to take down our sound guy?”
She snapped her head at me and glared. “Har har very funny.”
I kissed her lips and pulled her closer to me even as her arms remained at her side.
“Aw I’m sorry babe.” I said with a chuckle, she still didn’t budge. I pulled away enough to look at her face. She wasn’t even looking at me.
Stubborn.
I chuckled again and shook my head before leaning in until my lips were touching her earlobe. My smile widening in triumph when I felt her shiver at my touch.
“Will you forgive me if I promise to make it up to you tonight?”
She didn’t respond so I pulled back again to look at her.
She was trying her hardest to keep a blank face but I could see the corners of her mouth fighting to twitch up into a smile.
I poked at her cheek and she bit her bottom lip to keep it from betraying her.
“Smile, you know you want to.” I urged.
For a second she struggled to keep her face emotionless and then one corned flicked up followed by her whole face braking out in a grin.
“I hate you Harry Styles.” She giggled out.
I beamed at her, kissing her smiling lips one more time before dragging her over to the others.
“Hey Dee.” Zayn was the first to say, followed by the others waving at her.
“Why do you look so happy?” Louis asked furrowing his brows at her.
“Because Harry’s an idiot.”
I narrowed my eyes at her causing her to smile sweetly and shrug.
“You guys almost done here?” She asked looking around the arena at the people scattered around packing up for the night.
“We actually just finished. Hazza here thought you weren’t going to make it.” Liam said clapping my back as he walked by. He stopped to peck Dawn’s cheek before waving at the rest of us. “See you lot later.”
The others began to gather their things as well, after the long day of running through the show over and over again, the last thing any of us wanted to do was mingle with the executives and tour sponsors but it was our job. At least we had each other to keep ourselves entertained.
“Come on. Let’s get ready.” I slung my arm around her shoulder, which she quickly shrugged right back off claiming I was sweaty and smelled.
Laughing, I lead her down the halls of the arena to a dressing room I knew to be deserted.
The others were chancing a trip back home before meeting up at the party, but I knew that between the drive back to one of our flats and the time it normally took for both of us to get ready , by the time we were done it would be impossibly late. It was easier to get ready here.
As I closed the door behind me I pointed to a door on the other side of the room. “I’m going to shower.” I waited for her to look at me before wiggling my eyebrows. “You can join me if you like.”
She rolled her eyes and smacked my chest, pushing me towards the bathroom. “Go shower stinky. I’ll get ready out here.”
I blew her a kiss as I walked into the bathroom and began to peel my sweaty clothes off.
I couldn’t believe how luck I had gotten. Here I was with the girl of my dreams just behind the door, waiting for me to show her off at a party meant to celebrate our third second tour.
This time last year I was too scared to tell her how I felt, too scared of losing her. Then I did lose her because I was so scared and that was probably the most devastating experience in my life.
I’m still not sure how I managed to still have her love me, with all my faults and flaws and every mistake I have made, how she still choose to be with me.
I was so lucky.
After showering and hastily pulling on some trousers I slowly stepped out into the dressing room.
Dawn sat on the sofa, bent over slipping her feet into a pair of heels. When she heard me step out of the bathroom she stood up running her hands over the silky black fabric of the dress she wore.
My fingers froze over the buttons of my shirt as my eyes swept over her.
The tight material hugging each and every curve of her body making my mouth water and the nude colored heels made her legs look like they went on for miles. Dawn’s hair, that had been up when she arrived, was now down with her fringe falling seductively in her eyes.
“Do I look alright?”
I nodded dumbly, still stunned by how beautiful she looked.
Noticing my staring she looked down trying to hide her blush before looking up with a lopsided smile.
I cleared my throat, determined to actually use words to tell her how beautiful she was. “I-you-” I clamped my mouth shut for a moment, letting the thoughts that were racing through my head settle so I could make coherent sounds. “You look stunning Dee.”
By now I couldn’t keep my hands off of her a second longer so I let them slid over her hips and rest on her back as I pushed her into me.
“You know if you keep looking at me like that we aren’t going to go anywhere.” She whispered resting her forehead against mine.
I contemplated just forgetting about the whole night and taking her home but I knew I would hear it from multiple sources tomorrow if I didn’t make an appearance so with a sigh I pulled away and reached my hand out to hers.
“Come on before I decide I want to take you home and take that dress right off of you.”
I was bluffing and she knew it.
We hadn’t actually taken our relationship there yet. Not that I wasn’t willing to, I think I have been ready for years now, but Dawn seemed a bit hesitant, like she was scared what it would mean. I would be lying if I said that wasn’t slightly hurtful but I didn’t want to rush her either. I knew there was no one else for me and if I had to wait just a little longer to show her exactly how much I loved her then so be it.
But it did get a little hard to remember that when she looked so damn sexy, or when she gave me that look she was giving me now. The look that made her eyes smolder and change color.
I knew better then to make a move based on that look alone, she would just freeze up if it got to heavy.
No it was better for me to wait until she initiated anything.
“Come on.” I said grabbing hold of her hand and my blazer before pulling her out the door.
The party itself was boring. Like I had mentioned before, it was full of executives and representatives for all the different sponsors for the tour.
As soon as we had walked through the doors, Dawn had been whisked away to speak to one of the reps for Kiehl’s, who was supplying her and Jena with all their needed hair product for us on the tour.
I quickly made my way over to Louis who was cuddling with Eleanor in a booth out of sight.
“Harry, where is you lovely lady at?”
I nodded in the direction I had last seen her, looking bored out of her mind as an older woman spoke to her.
Her eyes met mine across the room and she subtly held her finger up to her head with her thumb sticking up in the classic gun gestures before pulling the ‘trigger’.
I chuckled and shook my head at her antics before falling into a conversation with Louis and Eleanor.
It wasn’t long before the others found us and decided to hide with us. I actually started to feel bad for leaving Dawn to fend for herself among the other party goers, so I excused myself to find her.
I was a bit surprised to find her laughing with our new sound tech, Shane, at the bar. The same sound tech she had nearly plowed over earlier today.
When she saw me approaching from over his shoulder her eyes lit up and that made me feel a little better. I couldn’t say I wasn’t still slightly jealous of any guy that held her attention, or made her smile, but I was doing better at letting it go, especially when she looked at me like that.
It was a nice reminder that no matter what was going on now, I would be the one she was going home with.
“Harry!” She shouted gleefully as I stepped into her side, letting my arm snake around her hips.
“I missed you.” I spoke into her ear. She pulled away and beamed up at me.
“I missed you too. I was just thanking Shane here for saving me, and then I was going to look for you.”
I turned my attention to the blonde standing next to us, watching us interacted with a small smile.
“Hey mate, nice to see you here. Thank you for saving her.”
“Not a problem. She looked like she was ready to drown herself it the fountain, and she’s much too pretty to end her life like that so I thought I would pull her away.”
Dawn giggled at his words and I tried to make myself laugh but I couldn’t help eyeing him as he grinned at Dawn. I didn’t like it, but I also knew Dawn wouldn’t like me being possessive. I decided my best bet was to just leave and take Dawn with me.
“Well Thank you.” I said to him before looking down at my girlfriend, making sure Shane could see me kiss the side of her neck before I leaned into whisper in her ear again. “Let’s go.”
She nodded and smiled at Shane one last time before allowing me to lead her back towards the booth the others were seated at.
The rest of the party was spent relaxing at our booth, ordering drinks, laughing and just talking.
Not too long after we had ordered our third round of drinks did I feel Dawn resting her head on my shoulder and yawning, letting me know it was getting late.
“Ready to go?”
She snapped her head up and looked at me with wide eyes. “We don’t have to. It’s your party Harry, we can stay for as long as you want.”
I pushed her fringe out of her eyes and kissed the tip of her nose. “I’d rather go back to yours and snuggle under the sheets.”
She giggled at me before nodding. “I’d rather be doing that too.” She looked around at the others and then to me. “Alright curly lets blow this popsicle stand.”
I didn’t hesitate as I slid out of the booth, helping Dawn to her feet and turning back to the others. “See you all later. We’re heading home.”
Louis was the first to react wiggling his eyebrows and whistling,
“Are you two going to bang?” Zayn asked with a mischievous grin causing Dawn to blush a very deep red.
“Shut up Malik.” She hissed before flipping Louis off as he laughed the loudest. “I’m leaving now.”
She spun on her heels and began to weave her way through the crowd. I chuckled and waved at the others as I followed her.
“You know they were just joking.” I said as soon as I caught up to her, pulling her back to my front and resting my chin on her shoulder.
“I know.” Even from this angle I could see her smirk. “Now can we go home and make out til I can’t breath. You owe me from earlier.”
I threw my head back and laughed before spinning her around and kissing her lips. “We can.”
Maybe bliss.
Yeah, I’ll go with that.
