Taken For Granted
Chapter One.
Tal's POV:
"God dammit hurry up a bit, we are gonna be late" I heard Mel scream from the hallway at me. One thing about her, she was always too loud. But I had grown accustomed to it after being best friends with her for longer than I could remember. Sometimes it was shocking when she wasn't loud, but that was only on the rare occasions.
"Coming coming, now stop yelling" I said annoyed, Mel always did this. She would always drag me out to a club really late in the evening. Even if I was dying of some deathly disease her goal in life was to party. This time I had been cuddling my pillow whilst tearing up at "The Notebook" before she had forced me to get dressed into something that wouldn't even be deemed as an item of clothing.
I never dresses like this, it was probably the reason as to why a guy would never even merely glance in my direction. The idea that people may be able to see my past scared me more than imaginable. Sometimes staying away from a relationship was the best way to prevent that. Letting someone in would probably hurt more than the past itself. But anyway I know Mel wouldn't want me to think like this before going out. She always made me happy with her excited bubbly self.
Her shoulder length hair that would bounce slightly when she walked, always styled to perfection. Like she was always ready to walk down a runway if needed. Her big deeps set of brown eyes always won guys over and it made me realise how beautiful my best friend really is. In-case you didn't know, Mel has a boyfriend. Why wouldn't she after looking and being the way she is? Her soft enthusiastic voice interrupted my dizzying thoughts and I quickly ran down the stairs.
"Tal i'm gonna grab you by the hair if you are not here in one...two-"
"I'm here now aren't I ? Let's just go already." I whined and she beamed at me, flashing her perfect pearly whites.
"Wait your lipsticks gone a bit crazy." She said whilst holding my head in place as though I was nothing more than a doll. Her thumb wiped against the pink product and I turned to face the mirror. It was quite small but big enough to catch a glance before you left the apartment. I noticed my clear blue eyes, standing out against my skin and my long lashes lightly fluttering over them. A few different colours of eye shadow had been blended over my eyelids, making them even bigger. Long blonde hair caressed my cheeks and traveled down my back. It had small waves here and there emphasizing the untamed side it possessed. I couldn't remember the last time I had gotten it cut. It was something I could hide behind when I felt my cheeks becoming rosy with blush.
The black dress I had on was tight on my curves and made me actually look like I had something to show. Still, I felt unnerving about the whole situation. Mel would probably get drunk and I would be left to hold her hair whilst she was sick into the toilet all night. That's what best friends are for right ?
Slipping on some red heels, which I knew could cause my feet to ache by the end of the night. I made my way out of the door after.
The cab was waiting for us which she had rung earlier and we hopped into the back seat. It smelled of cigarettes and I found myself coughing for clean air once the door had been shut.
"Calm down would you?" Mel whispered to me before giving the Cab driver a few notes of money. The cab drove us all the way through the town and into the downtown. Billboard were everywhere and bright luminescent lights lit up each different club with originality. The one we usual went had a deep red light shining down on its waiting line as girls and guys stood eagerly waiting to get in.
I swear the dresses on them got short as the line got longer. My eyes noticed a couple in a deep make out session up against the wall and I looked away disgusted. She had a bottle of alcohol in her grasp and was waving around as he tried to pull her dress up. The cab stopped along the pavement and stood up straighter.
"Woo, I'm so excited." She said and her hold on me tightened eagerly. I grimaced at the sight but I knew I should be making an effort for her. I wasn't going to ruin this night out. "So Tal you gonna drink tonight?" Her voice edged to me and I almost tripped on my heels. Quickly I pretended nothing happened and stood up straight.
"I'll say it again Mel. No. I'm not drinking. Why would you get drunk in a night out anyway? You wouldn't remember a thing and it would be pointless." I scoffed at her and I noticed her pretend baby face out of the corner of my eyes. "No Mel." The words came out with a sternness I didn't know I acquired.
"Well you won't get drunk stupid, you will just have a few drinks, please." She whined the last part and we joined the back of the line to enter.
"You know what my answer is." I looked at her and she forced a frown into her perfect skin.
"Okay, okay. I just don't understand you sometimes and I don't understand why you don't want to drink." She said the last part with a whisper to her voice. Almost like she didn't want me to hear her. But I did, however I just decided to shrug it off.
We had been stood in the line for what felt like forever even though it had only been around ten minutes. The bouncer had a shaved head and wore a huge black blazer, making him look even more menacing. Finally he nodded at our ID and we made our way into the club.
Music blasted everywhere and a loud bass was booming around the walls. It was dark and hazy, sweaty bodies dancing together and even more guys trying to rid girls of their dresses. Multi-coloured strobe lights pierced into my eyes and I held my hand up to try and block them out. Mel pulled me through the huge crowd of moving people. A few times I felt hands here for Mel. And that was the only reason. We were only halfway to the bar when I noticed a load of people making out in a corner. There were deep purple sofas everywhere and body upon body like there was no tomorrow. The idea of going anywhere in this place made me feel sick, if I went to the bathroom there would probably be another load of sweaty people having sex, not to mention a couple of guys having a go at one girl up against the wall.
I tried to look away but a guy saw me and a devious smile played upon his lips. Quickly my gave averted to Mel who was desperately looking over the crowd to the bar. I could see a group of friends doing body shots and I cringed away from the seductive faces they held. It seemed like everyone apart from me and Mel were drunk and would do anything to get into bed with each other.
Only half of the club appeared to be dancing, whislt the other half were grinding up against each other or doing something sexual which was blantly obvious no matter how much they tried to hide it. I saw the same guy who had smiled at me now running his hands up a girl's leg as he slipped into her underwear.
I felt myself faint and quickly move to where Mel stood. "I'm just gonna be at the bar Tal! Have fun girl!" She winked at me before I knew it she was gone through the crowd. The loud music made my ears pound and my head started to feel heavy. I saw a blur of Mel downing a few shots and kissing her boyfriend down the neck.
Now that I'm all alone, I thought about going to the dance floor and start doing the only thing I do best, dance. As I made my way over the dance floor, sweaty bodies pushed me here and there till I got to the place I was heading for. Searching for an available spot to dance on, was a mission impossible. Since people were dancing together in an unstable spot. A few minutes had passed, but eventually a place was found in this crowded area.
Dancing to me wasn't just a song playing in the background and a body moving with it. It's so much more than that. It's an escape from what's happening around me, anger, loneliness, issues. It's an escape from life, from reality. I take everything I bottled up out on dancing. It makes me feel alive, no matter what I'm going through.
As the music blasted, I started moving my body against the beat, forgetting the people around me as if it was just me dancing on the dance floor. My hair bouncing as I danced, a few strands stuck on my lips due the pink lipstick I had on. I kept dancing the entire night, as my legs started to feel numb, I decided to go rest a bit with Mel. Even though I'm pretty sure by now she will be drunk as ever. As I was about to head to the bar, someone grabbed me by the hips and started to grind on me.
