Chapter 3 - Life Changing
“Mama told me not to wast my life, she said spread your wings my little butterfly.” I begin to sings. I have to admit I am a little nervous of preforming in front of thousands of people, but towards the middle of the song, my nerves go away. I sing every lyric of the song with confidence. I move around to the tempo of the song and still nothing out of the judges. Their faces are blank with no emotion or expression. I forget about the judges, the people, and the cameras. I follow my routine and enjoy every second of it. The song seems to go on forever and keep on going. I keep on signing though. As the last few lyrics come up, I get ready for the ending pose. I find my way back to middle stage, put my feet together, and as the last beat sounds, I throw my left hand in the air holding the microphone and my whole body is straightened by the jerk. I smile while holding the pose for about 5 seconds. The crowd stands up applauding and screaming. I got a standing ovation! The ovation goes on for about 5 minutes until Simon stands up and calms down the crowd. My first real performance and I got a standing ovation! “Who are you!” the guest judge ask. I reply, “Mckenna Porter.” “Well Mckenna Porter, you have an amazing voice and you really sang with confidence!” The same judge says. The crowd screams some more, but only until it comes to Simon. “How old are you?” he ask. “14” I reply. “Youngest person to come on the xfactor.” he says. He ask many more questions like when did I star singing, how I trained for the xfactor, and who is my favorite artist. When he asked me who my favorite artist was, I said, “One Direction”. They are. I didn't know them until mid 2012 though. But I am here for them now and that's all that matters. It seems like an hour before he actually tells me how I did. “Well Mckenna, you have an amazing voice for a 13 year old. I though you were at least 16 when you performed.” Simon says. “Thank you.” I reply with a smile. Simon says to me, “You have a beautiful voice and I think you might be able to get to the judges houses and possibly the finals.” I feed off of each word he says. Each compliment and suggestion makes me happy. The hardest judge on the xfactor likes my voice! “Thank you.” I say with a smile and leave the stage. Behind the curtain, my family awaits for me. “I did it!” I sort of shout at scream at the same time. This is so exciting! My career takes off from here. It's been a long day, and I'm tired. My brother who is 24 will be staying up here in London with me until I get voted off or until the xfactor is over. As we leave the building I see about 50 people scream and run to me. I big guy in a yellow jacket runs to the crowd and tries to hold them back. He calls for 5 more people. On the back of their jackets say “SECURITY”. “Mckeena!” the people all scream. I to the people and tell the guards to let them go. Some want pictures while some want autographs. Is this a smaller version of what happened to One Direction? I look at my wrist to see two bracelets. One on each wrist. One was from the This Is Us movie I went to with my best friend Jessica, and the other I said “I Love Niall”. “Can you do a signing at the mall tomorrow?” I hear a voice say. I turn around and see that it's Simon. I nod and follow my family and we get in the car to go back to the hotel. I knew front that point that my life will never the same.
