Falling for Harry Styles

“So Natalie, how has your week been?”
“Good,” I smiled at him.
“It’s nice to see you smile. Your whole demeanor seems different today. What happened to make you so happy?”
I giggled slightly embarrassed that it was so obvious, “Um… my best friend told me—well he said he loves me on Saturday night.”
“Ohhh… Are the feelings mutual?”
“Yes,” I smiled.
“Does he know that?”
“I don’t know.”
“Have you talked to him since Saturday evening?”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Well he was gone when I got up yesterday and he wasn’t home before I went to work and he wasn’t home when I got in last night.”
“You live with him?”
“Yeah. I moved in with him after my parents divorced.”
“Oh, is that ‘the night’-” put air quotes around it- “you mentioned last week?”
My smiled quickly faded, “Uh no. They divorced about six months ago.”
“Oh,” he nodded. “Well do you think that was the beginning of the pain and ‘the night’ was the breaking point?”
My eyebrows scrunched and I frowned slightly in thought, “I’ve never thought of that.”
“Well how did you feel when your parents divorced?”
“Upset. Betrayed. Mad. But I always thought that was because I had finally got accepted to the University of London and they were moving away; which, is the reason I moved in with Harry. And it was never an evident pain like this is.”
“Well emotional hurt manifests differently, it isn’t always pain, and it can build up over time. You can feel betrayed, mad, sad, angry, and even jealous.” My brow raised and a quiet ‘oh’ left my lips. “Your brow piqued at my mention of jealousy. Do you feel jealous? Or has there been an instance over the past few months in which you felt jealous?”
“Yeah…” he nodded encouraging me to continue. “Well…Harry was dating this girl and I didn’t like her.”
“Why didn’t you like her?”
I thought for a moment, “She seemed like a shallow, fake, gold-digger.”
“Was she? Or was your jealousy crowding your judgment?”
I scowled in concentration thinking back to how Christina actually was, “Come to think of it I might have actually liked her if she wasn’t dating Harry…”
“Did you ever lash out at her? Or at him?”
I bit my lip and nodded shyly, “Yeah and it turned into a screaming match of who hurt whom worse.”
“And… at that time how exactly had he hurt you?”
“Well he had a nightmare that terrified and upset him for months and he kept it from me and he also knew he was going on tour over my birthday and he kept that from me too.”
A flash of excitement crossed his face before his stern professional expression was back, “And that upset you right?”
“Yeah and I was kinda mad too.”
He pursed his lips and looked over his notes again, “So it sounds like you had a lot of pain locked away before ‘the night’. And all that coupled with whatever happened that night led to your break down.”
I nodded slowly as it all seemed to fit together like a jigsaw puzzle. “I… I guess you’re right.”
“Good. So now that you have accepted this… are you ready to tell me what happened that night?”
I pursed my lips as my eyes closed and thought a moment before I sighed. I nodded slowly as my eyes hesitantly opened, “Yeah… um…” I breathed out another breath, “I was home alone that night because Harry hadn’t come home from his mum’s yet. It was two days after Christmas and I was just lounging around the house when I got a call. It was my sister’s girlfriend telling me that she and my sister were in a car accident the day before and Jen had died.” The atmosphere was heavy with emotion as I finished, containing the tears in my eyes. I could feel the pain in my chest even more prevalent now.
“Oh… I’m sorry to hear that.”
The timer sounded interrupting the serenity and making me jump slightly. “Well we will pick this up again next week. And can I ask you a question off the record?”
“Sure…” I nodded.
“You said your friend Harry, is going on tour. You wouldn’t happen to be talking about Harry Styles from One Direction would you?”
I nodded, a smile gracing my lips, “Yeah that’s him.”
“Wow,” his eyes lit up, “He is gorgeous!”
I chuckled, “I’ll let him know you think so.”
He laughed, “I’m sorry, fangirl moment. I’ll see you next Monday. Bye Natalie.”
“Good-bye Braize.”
I made my way home, chuckling to myself about Braize’s confession. I knew they had a wide-range of fans, but I never realized men in their late twenties liked them too. I walked into the flat still giggling as I called out, “Haz, hey Haz you home?”
“Lounge.” I walked that way.
“Harry get this Brazie thinks you are gorgeous,” I said imitating the way he had said it.
“Who?” he said it with a smile.
“My therapist.”
“Oh,” he chuckled, “You guys talk about me?”
“You’re my best friend Haz, of course we talk about you.”
His face slightly fell and his proceeding chuckle was filled with tension, “Oh.” We were silent for a moment before he spoke again, “Um, I’m gonna go hang out at the bar for a bit.”
“Oh well let me get my stuff from my car and I’ll go with you.”
“No,” he was abrupt, then more hesitant, “uh… no… I’d rather be alone.”
“Oh, okay, Haz. I’ll see you when you come home, then.”
“Yeah,” was all he said before he left with a loud thud of the door slamming behind him.
